Pulmonary hypertension, or high blood pressure in the lungs, is a common complication of interstitial lung disease, an array of conditions that cause scarring of the lungs. Without treatment, it can be life-threatening. But currently, the only way to diagnose pulmonary hypertension definitively is through an invasive outpatient procedure called right heart catheterization, which measures pressures inside the heart and lungs using a small device inserted through a neck vein. The study identified which variables were the strongest predictors of pulmonary hypertension. It also found a combination of variables could predict the condition with high accuracy. In its latest study,...

Two new studies shed light on current U.S. hospital practices. In the hospital pricing study, the researchers analyzed prices for 70 common "shoppable" services disclosed by 2,379 U.S. hospitals as of September 2022 under the new Hospital Price Transparency Rule that went into effect in 2021. For their analysis, the researchers used data from Turquoise Health, a data service company that collects hospital pricing information. On average across the 70 services, for nearly half of these services—47%—the cash prices were lower than or the same as the median insurance-paid prices for the same procedure in the same hospital and service...

For decades, progressives have been aggressively informing us that they are devout fans of “diversity” and “multiculturalism.” These words have taken on an almost totemic significance, with “diversity is our strength” becoming a mantra for Canadian lefties. I have my quibbles with these buzz-words—diversity is a description, not a value—but I have often found myself wishing, over the past few years, that those who brandish these terms actually believed in them. What we have found as the LGBT movement achieved cultural dominance is that for progressives, “diversity” is where people look different, but think the same. Thus, Western nations (primarily...

Conservative body in Church of England encourages dioceses to protest, and says opposition is growingConservative clergy and parishioners have launched a small but vocal revolt against the Church of England’s plan to offer to bless the civil marriages of same-sex couples, a move that some Christians believe is contrary to biblical teaching. In Buckinghamshire, a large group parish plans to refuse to offer blessings to same-sex couples in its seven churches and is taking steps to withhold its annual contribution of £235,000 to the diocese of Oxford in protest. A group of traditionalist clergy in the City of London have...

Researchers have been investigating how fungi can replace or benefit existing computer architectural components. Studies have recently been completed that show it is possible to implement basic logical circuits and basic electronic circuits with mycelium – the network of fungal threads usually hidden deep beneath the fruiting fungus body. Founded in 2001, the Unconventional Computing Laboratory at the University of the West of England in Bristol, UK, is behind the headlining work. The lab certainly lives up to its name with its research involving fungi. At the university is the UK’s only so-called ‘wet lab’, which mixes chemicals, liquids, biological...

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — Maricopa County officials have agreed to pay $175,000 to settle litigation filed after a Gateway Pundit writer was denied a press pass last year. On Wednesday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted to approve paying a settlement to TGP Communications after one of the company's writers was denied credentials to attend the county's press conferences during the 2022 election. Records show the county restricted access to Jordan Conradson because they do not consider the Pundit writer to be "a bona fide correspondent of repute in your profession."

The event at the Royal Albert Hall was not just an innocent celebration of Ramadan but rather a show of force by the Turkish government to further Islamize and control Europe. The Royal Albert Hall is an iconic symbol of British culture and heritage, known for hosting some of the most prestigious events in the world. However, on the evening of April 7, its famous steps were overtaken by 500 British Muslims for an Iftar during the Islamic month of Ramadan. This seemingly innocent event is just one more victory in Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s plan to Islamize and control...

At least one preliminary report from industry experts suggests Bud Light’s decision to partner with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney has resulted in financial losses for the company. Multiple bar owners across the country — including one in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan — confirmed that Bud Light sales dropped significantly over the Easter weekend. "They've already done enough damage in one week to disrupt yearlong sales projections," a beer sales representative who works with retailers such as Costco told Fox Business. The question, then, is why Bud Light would risk such a financial backlash in the first place. Why would the company...

The man behind a massive leak of U.S. government secrets that has exposed spying on allies, revealed the grim prospects for Ukraine’s war with Russia and ignited diplomatic fires for the White House is a young, charismatic gun enthusiast who shared highly classified documents with a group of far-flung acquaintances searching for companionship amid the isolation of the pandemic. United by their mutual love of guns, military gear and God, the group of roughly two dozen — mostly men and boys — formed an invitation-only clubhouse in 2020 on Discord, an online platform popular with gamers. But they paid little...

One thing about President Donald Trump is that as much as he railed against fake news, the man took questions from the press all the time. He was always in the briefing room. He took questions while waiting to board Marine One. The man was not one to shy away from the press. President Biden, on the other hand … we have a library of photos of him walking away from the podium ignoring reporters’ shouted questions. We have video of him just sitting like a lump ignoring questions from reporters. We suppose he thinks he can get away with...

Wisconsin GOP Sen. Ron Johnson says the Chinese-American financial institution Cathay Bank has given Senate Republicans records showing millions of dollars going from Chinese companies to President Biden's son Hunter Biden. Republicans and others started raising concerns during President Biden's successful 2020 White House campaign, if not earlier, that Hunter Biden used the family name and influence while his father was vice president to make millions in overseas business deals, which also could have compromised U.S. national security. Johnson told The Washington Times the records show the Biden family involved with the now-defunct CEFC China Energy, which had connections to...

In a slap to Muslim girls, Stuyvesant HS is canceling single-sex swim lessons, even though swim instruction is required to graduate. That forces the girls to choose between preserving their modesty and getting a diploma. Count on Muslim families to fight back — and likely prevail. Nationwide, Muslims are taking up the battle in schools to protect traditional religious values, including modesty. Move over, Roman Catholics, evangelical Christians and conservative Jews. Reinforcements have arrived, and they’re turning the tide. Even in the Ivy League. After weeks of protests by female Muslim students, Yale University is switching its campus-housing policy for...
