WASHINGTON — Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas pleaded ignorance Tuesday about the existence of logs recording who has visited President Biden’s Delaware homes — stunning lawmakers who have sought the information for months. Mayorkas, whose department includes the Secret Service, made his astounding “I don’t know” claim when Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) pressed him about a persistent lack of information following congressional requests. “I don’t know whether the Secret Service maintains visitor logs of the president’s residence,” the DHS chief said. “But if they do and those have been requested, we will comply with the law.” Biden regularly spends his...

Shots can be heard seconds before the suspect comes into view and drops to the floor after apparently being shot. One officer fires additional rounds into the assailant, who appears...

Former Vice President Mike Pence has been ordered to appear before a grand jury weighing efforts to overturn the 2020 election, according to reports from multiple outlets on Tuesday, after a top federal judge ruled that executive privilege could not entirely shield him from answering questions. The sealed order rejected former President Trump’s claims of executive privilege in special counsel Jack Smith’s Jan. 6, 2021, investigation, a sign that D.C. District Court Chief Judge James Boasberg may align with his predecessor in pushing Trump-era officials to cooperate with the probe.

long-lost lake in California may reappear after heavy rains in the state. Tulare Lake, a freshwater dry lake in the southern San Joaquin Valley, dried up about 80 years ago. It shrank when the land was developed for agriculture and rivers were diverted elsewhere. It became farmland in the middle of the 20th century. It has flooded occasionally since then, but this year is looking to be the wettest yet. California has been hit by severe storms in recent days, as well as throughout much of winter. Forecasters have estimated there will be 4 inches of rain and 4 feet...

This president has taken more executive actions on gun violence safety than any president before him, and he has done that in two years. Just earlier this month, we took another executive action.”

Now for a personal insight, one based on direct, long-term experiences: I have worked with many Eastern Europeans. I have worked closely with Russians, Ukrainians, Slovenians, Serbians and Estonians. I generally did not care for them because it seemed to me that 1) Everything was considered a financial transaction to them; everything was for sale - it was only a matter of price. 2) There seemed to be something missing from their souls/consciences. Perhaps 80 years of communism hollowed their collective consciousness.
