The late-night announcement of a planned replacement of Ukraine's defence minister has raised eyebrows in wartime Kyiv as the country gears up for an anticipated Russian offensive in the east. On Sunday night, a senior lawmaker close to President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov would be replaced by the head of the military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, in the highest-profile government shuffle since the start of the Russian invasion last February. The surprise announcement followed a series of corruption scandals in the government but David Arakhamia, chief of the parliamentary bloc of Zelensky's party, did not accuse Reznikov...

The head of the British Cabinet also spoke in support of other proposals, including the training and instruction of Ukrainian sailors, as well as the supply of long-range weapons Kyiv. Along with this, it is planned to teach Ukrainian pilots how to fly military helicopters.During the joint meeting, the parties also focused their attention on a significant increase in the supply of military equipment so that Ukraine could resist a possible spring offensive by Russian troops, which various Western observers and experts have been actively talking about lately.the British military reminded that it takes at least 3 years to train...

Have affirmative action hiring practices caused overall competence to plummet? The record appears to show exactly that. For no good reasons whatsoever, competence was allowed to die on the vine in order to give the less competent a leg up. Not equality but superiority rules the hiring, firing, and education of Americans. Worse, many of those who were affirmatively hired do not do as good a job as those whose excellence was obvious. You can see it in customer service, which for many businesses is abysmally incompetent. There is a resentful casualness in those who are hired to serve others...

TOKYO -- Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine nearly a full year ago, attacks against military and civilian targets alike have caused numerous deaths, with no end to the fighting in sight. Intelligence analysts, however, have taken interest in one specific part of the death toll: the number of Russian generals killed in the conflict Generals command hundreds or thousands of soldiers. A larger number of general deaths thus signals a weak military. British media reported in June that over 10 generals had been killed. Japan estimates the total at more than 20, based on intelligence gathered in cooperation with the...

Pray For The Peace of JerusalemMark 3Jesus Heals on the Sabbath 3 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.” 4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent. 5...

"There is a new sheriff in town," the governor said during a press conference in Ocala. "That's just the way it's going to be." A bill proposed by Republicans would keep the special taxing district in place, but give it a new name, and create a five-person board whose members would all be appointed by the governor.

(Daily readings from the USCCB)Soon a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him. She came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth, and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter. Mark 7:25–26A parent’s love is powerful. And the woman in this story clearly loves her daughter. It is that love that drives this mother to seek out Jesus in the hope that He will free her daughter from the demon who possessed her. Interestingly, this woman was not of the Jewish faith. She was a Gentile,...

A recently retired FBI supervisory intelligence analyst told Congress in a whistleblower disclosure that agents in Boston were improperly pressured by Washington to open criminal cases on 140 people who had simply taken a bus ride to the Jan. 6 rally in Washington. The agents refused because there was no evidence the attendees engaged in any criminality, the whistleblower said. George Hill's testimony to the House Judiciary Committee also raised new civil liberty concerns about the FBI's Jan. 6 probe, including whether the Bureau mined Americans' bank records without court authority and whether the agency possesses video footage it is...

"Typically, a 300-ppm increase in the air’s CO2 content … will raise the productivity of most herbaceous plants by about one-third, which stimulation is generally manifested by an increase in the number of branches and tillers, more and thicker leaves, more extensive root systems, and more flowers and fruit. Elevated CO2 Reduces Temperature Stress in Plants. CO2 is the ‘food’ that sustains essentially all plants (and animals who consume plants, including humans).”

John Le Carré’s cunning and ruthless patriot may not be fiction after all. How delightful that among the Republican members of the new Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government of the House Judiciary Committee is Harriet Hageman of Wyoming, and not the objectionable Liz Cheney. SNIP Joe Biden has numerous shortcomings as a political leader; apart from apparently being challenged by a severe shortness of brainpower, the commander-in-thief regards the people of MAGA not as fellow citizens to be respected, but as political foes to be destroyed. Applauding a charlatan’s State of the Union address throughout, not...

PHILADELPHIA, Sunday, Feb. 8. The iron steamer Princess Royal, in charge of Acting Master EDWARD VAN SICE, arrived off the Navy-yard to-day. She brings highly important intelligence, both as relates to her capture and the rebel attack on our blockading squadron at Charleston, showing conclusively that there is no foundation for the assumption of the rebels that the blockade of Charleston was ever raised by the departure of the United States fleet, only two vessels out of the eight or ten having been disabled or obliged to leave. It appears from the Statement of an intelligent eye witness that the...

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday brushed aside former President Donald Trump‘s attempts to cast him as a “groomer” of young women, saying he is not interested in spending his time chopping down fellow Republicans. The governor has been on the receiving end of recent Trump attacks, including the former president reposting a picture this week on social media accusing Mr. DeSantis of drinking alcohol with students when he was a teacher. The post labeled him a groomer. “I’d also just say this,” Mr. DeSantis said at a press conference Wednesday. “I spend my time delivering results for the people...

The party of slavery should take responsibility for being the party of slavery. Every so often, some Democrats call for reparations to compensate Black Americans for slavery and other indignities. The latest plan comes from San Francisco, where a reparations committee is considering a program that would offer $5 million per qualified Black resident. Let’s analyze the issue of reparations from the standpoint of morality and practicality. Most people believe that compensation for misdeeds should come from the people who caused the misdeeds. For example, if John Smith and Joe Brown recklessly damage your car, you expect Smith and Brown...

HIV may lie dormant in a distinct viral reservoir in the central nervous system (CNS), or brain and spinal cord, which could present an additional barrier to a cure, according to a recent report in Nature Microbiology. “Our analysis of rebound virus suggests latently infected T cells in the CNS are separate from the latent reservoir in the blood,” senior stud author Ron Swanstrom, PhD, of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine said in a press release. “Our analysis allows us to infer the presence of a distinct pool of latently infected cells in the CNS waiting to...

GLENDALE, AZ — One of the iconic moments before kickoff on Super Bowl Sunday is the fighter jet flyover at the end of the National Anthem. And this year's flyover will be historic in its own right. This year, the U.S. Navy gets the honor, featuring F-18, F-35 and Growler planes stationed at Luke Air Force Base, about seven miles west of State Farm Stadium. According to Navy officials, this is the first time in US history that those performing the flyover for the big game will be a team of all women. It’s to honor 50 years of women...

A shallow earthquake shook Indonesia’s easternmost province of Papua on Thursday, killing four people who were unable to escape when a floating restaurant collapsed into the sea. The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit residential areas in Jayapura, near Papua's northern coast and was centered at a depth of 22 kilometers (13 miles). Shallow quakes often cause more damage on the Earth's surface. “The residents were really panicked. I was in a car, and I felt like the car's wheels were lifted up,” said Tri Asih, a resident of Jayapura, Papua's capital. Officials said four people who...

Well, that’s it for Disney for now and the predictable future – anything whatsoever to do with a Disney brand anything for this family. Disney-brand movies, Disney-owned media outlets, toys, games and clothing with Disney characters on them, the parks – the whole ball-o-wax. I was pretty certain I was done with them when I wrote this, almost a year ago. (Disney was already circling the drain with me, the year before, when this posted.) This most recent release of theirs has gone beyond offensive wokery, romped through partisan propaganda and plunged headlong into purveying outright lies – lies about...
