Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 3
Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
3 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. 2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. 3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.

(Jamie, my Nephew, has posted a picture of his injury on FB, so I am not "telling tales out of school" with Today's Story.)
About a week ago, Jamie was working at his "Day Job" as a Plumber's Apprentice when he had an industrial accident. A large Power Drill caught the edge of his work glove and totally mauled his left hand, shattering bones and making a total mess. Jamie is an amazing Rock Guitarist and the accident has stunned and appalled the Music Community here in New England. Before I tell the rest of the story, I humbly ask that you say a prayer for my Nephew.
His intricate hand surgery was scheduled yesterday afternoon, at our local hospital, which is part of a large, famous Boston Hospital chain.
As I was writing yesterday's Thread, Jamie's Mom (my sister) called me and told me that the Hospital was ON FIRE. The power went off, the emergency generator disabled, and over 160 critically ill patients had to be carried out of the hospital by hand over the stairs and out of the building. People from the Neonatal ICU carried out infants in baskets. It was a very dramatic scene.
After I hung up on that sister, the phone rang again. This was my other sister, who lives eleven houses away. She was in a panic because an electrical outlet burst into flames in her living room.
"Hang up on me and call 911! I'll be right over!" I said.
I leashed Tippy and headed out. The roads were blocked by the Landscapers who had chosen that VERY MOMENT to cut down some large Oak Trees that were threatening to fall on our mobile homes, crushing us all. We had to pause while a tree came down and then walked to my sister's house, which wasn't easy because I am dealing with an injured knee and am wearing an immobilizer.
When I got to my sister's house, she was struggling to dress her husband, who is totally disabled with Alzheimer's Disease. He wasn't being cooperative, and the stress level was causing him a great deal of confusion. Then the Firefighters showed up, sirens blaring , and blocking the street even more. We managed to get my B-I-L out of the house, but he had on only bed slippers with no socks. He started shivering and was getting agitated by all the activity.
It was then that I suggested that I walk him back to my house, where it was quiet, and left my sister to deal with the firefighters, who were now being called to go over to the Hospital, three towns away (it had become a General Alarm Fire at the Hospital by this time).
And so, with Tippy on one side and my B-I-L on the other and a sore knee, we "Geri-Walked" back to my place, hobbling past the landscapers as they prepared another huge oak for removal.
Luckily, I had some apple sauce and cranberry juice on hand, to make things more pleasant.
My Sis called with the "All-Clear" and the Firefighters rushed off to the Hospital, so we began to walk back to her house, when the Landscapers chose that moment to bring the Big Oak Tree down. TIMBERRRRRRRR!!!!. The Oak, like the one in Atlas Shrugged, was all rotted inside, and could have come down at any time, killing us in our beds. Nevertheless, the tree falling agitated my dear B-I-L further.
My Sis had no electricity in the Living Room, because an Electrician had to fix the wiring, but we were able to rig up an extension cord so that we could at least play some records.
Then I went to Work. LOL. What a relief, when "Work" is actually an Escape from the REAL WORLD.
Now, what if this had happened on the Old Testament Sabbath? Would there have been criticism of Landscapers and Firefighters working on that day? How about those doctors scheduling essential hand surgery, or those hospital staff carrying Preemies out of a Hospital in baskets, or doing "The Fireman's Carry" of a critically ill patient over a flight of stairs?
Even running an electrical cable from another room, or turning on a Record Player to calm an agitated elder could have been considered "Breaking The Sabbath". While the Pharisees permitted "breaking the Sabbath" when it was a matter of Life and Death (which would have included the Hospital Evacuation), the laws got foggy when Life and Death were NOT involved. Clearly, the Healing performed by Jesus was not a Matter of Life and Death. The man had been afflicted with the withered hand for a long time. Jesus could have said,
"Come back tomorrow, and I will heal you."
But He didn't. He chose that moment to teach us that "Doing Good" is ALWAYS permitted, whatever the day.
And that is a Lesson for all of us, whether we celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday, Sunday, or any other day.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Oh My Goodness...I left out an important part of the story.
Right in the middle of all that mishegas I got a call from a dear friend who had come to the decision that it was time to put he beloved little 13-year-old poodle to sleep. He didn’t even know what vet to go to, and needed some definite comforting.
I recommended a local vet and asked if he wanted me to come along, but he said it was OK...he would go it alone.
So I was thinking about THAT all day too.

Psalm 34
Of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away.
1 I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
3 O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
5 Look to him, and be radiant;
so your* faces shall never be ashamed.
6 This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord,
and was saved from every trouble.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.
8 O taste and see that the Lord is good;
happy are those who take refuge in him.
9 O fear the Lord, you his holy ones,
for those who fear him have no want.
10 The young lions suffer want and hunger,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
11 Come, O children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Which of you desires life,
and covets many days to enjoy good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
and your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil, and do good;
seek peace, and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry.
16 The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,
and rescues them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is near to the broken-hearted,
and saves the crushed in spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the Lord rescues them from them all.
20 He keeps all their bones;
not one of them will be broken.
21 Evil brings death to the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
22 The Lord redeems the life of his servants;
none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

“Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.” Believing God is healing your feeble knee.
“I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong, and feed them in judgment.” I pray that God will bind up your nephew’s broken hand and strengthen it.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM! And for the Preservation of the Valiant Israeli Nation!

"The Man With The Withered Hand" James Tissot |
|
| _ |
he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.
And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.
| And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.
