For the first time ever, New York City is the most expensive city in the world sharing the top spot with Singapore, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit annual survey. Both cities have bumped last year’s most costly city, Tel Aviv, down to third place in the survey’s top 10 most expensive cities list. The Big Apple’s new spot as the priciest place to live comes after a year of soaring rent prices in the city. Real estate firm Douglas Elliman released a report earlier this year showing the median price of Manhattan apartments shot up by 25 percent in...
  • High rates of complications and rehospitalizations after abdominal ostomy surgery (A mostly preventable 42%)

    12/01/2022 11:21:23 AM PST · by ConservativeMind · 6 replies
Patients undergoing abdominal surgery for ostomy placement have high rates of hospital readmissions—often involving ostomy-related complications, reports a study. Colostomies and ileostomies are openings created in the abdominal wall to allow passage of stool from the large and small intestines, respectively. Urostomies are created to allow passage of urine from the bladder. Among the study patients, the most common reasons for colostomy or ileostomy were colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, and sepsis. Bladder cancer was the main reason for urostomy. The data showed high rates of healthcare use in the weeks and months after stoma surgery. Within 120 days after initial hospitalization,...
  • Elon Musk meets Tim Cook, says Twitter row was 'misunderstanding'...Twitter owner Elon Musk apparently ends his rather short feud with Apple.

Elon Musk seems to have ditched his Twitter feud with Apple after a stroll around Apple headquarters with the iPhone maker's chief, Tim Cook. "Thanks @tim_cook for taking me around Apple's beautiful HQ," Musk tweeted. Musk had complained about Apple on Twitter this week, when he claimed Apple had threatening to boot the app from the App Store without explaining why. He also complained that Apple had pulled most of its advertising from Twitter, and questioning whether Apple "hated free speech in America". However, the meeting with Tim Cook seems to have defused the situation. "Good conversation. Among other things,...

VIDEOA few days ago I was in the Broward Meat Market and to my very pleasant surprise I noticed a bunch of chicken wing packages priced at only 99 cents per pound. WOW! Of course, I immediately bought two packs for a total of 20 chicken wings. Later, at home, I "winged" it to put together an improvised marinade consisting of Italian dressing, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and Frank's hot sauce. After marinating the chicken wings overnight in this marinade mixture I made garlic paste and combined it with Goya Sazonador Total seasoning for the wing rub.

During my "dating career" as a man living in North America I couldn't help noticing that women often have unrealistic expectations. They see themselves being passed around by those high quality men they feel entitled for, failing to realize those few men are in high demand. Time passes, options shrink, their standards don't change and they wonder why they are still single. The stats can prove there're not enough high quality men for every girl out there. The Female Delusion Calculator is a tool that can help women discern what is realistic from what is highly unlikely.

Dog The Bounty Hunter's co-star David Robinson has died at 50 after having a 'stroke or heart attack' while on a Zoom call. Robinson starred alongside Duane 'Dog' Chapman in Dog's Most Wanted, which ran for a single season on WGN in 2019. Robinson's ex-wife Rainey, who also appeared on the show, confirmed his death to TMZ on Thursday, saying David was on a Zoom call when he had a medical emergency. Police and paramedics' attempts CPR after arriving at the scene were unsuccessful. Sources close to Robinson said he appeared to have had a 'heart attack or stroke' -...

Gisele Fetterman, the wife of Senator-elect John Fetterman (D-Pa.), said that their children were “appalled” with Republican challenger Dr. Mehmet Oz’s campaign mocking her husband’s recent stroke. In an interview with NBC’s “Today” published Thursday, Fetterman said that her children were aware of the tactics Oz’s campaign accused to attack their father’s health condition, adding that their awareness made her proud. John Fetterman, Pennsylvania’s current lieutenant governor, suffered a stroke earlier this year, which affected the way he processes speech. Fetterman’s health scare was used by Oz’s campaign as an attack to question the current Senator-elect’s fitness to serve in...

A UK white supremacist could be extradited to the US for posting a series of vile videos that “encouraged and in part motivated” Buffalo mass shooter Peyton Gendron, a court was told. Daniel Harris, 19, was found guilty Tuesday of encouraging terrorism with the videos that called for an armed insurrection and glorified racist mass murderers, Derbyshire police said. Prosecutor Joe Allman told the court that the videos “encouraged and in part motivated” fellow teen Gendron, then 18, who killed 10 black Tops shoppers in May, the Times of London said. Gendron — who pleaded guilty to the mass shooting...

Florida man Jeremy Dewitte, 42, of Kissimmee is in the Osceola County jail for violating his probation for not deleting his YouTube account. Dewitte was finally taken into custody after barricading himself in his Kissimmee home. Osceola County deputies served Dewitte a warrant for violation of probation out of Orange County. The arrest comes a few months after his release from prison in September for impersonating a law enforcement officer in Orange County. Dewitte is also a convicted sex offender who apparently doesn’t live in reality. As he was being escorted out of his house by Osceola County sheriff’s deputies...

Twice-failed Georgia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is now lobbying the Joe Biden White House to be the next nominee for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), according to a report. FCC nominee Gigi Sohn’s confirmation vote has been put on the back burner as Senate Democrats’ one-member majority has struggled to find a way to confirm her. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA), the chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, said that she will push to renominate Sohn, a radical progressive on technology issues, if Congress’s upper chamber cannot confirm her this congressional session.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dodged a question during Wednesday’s press briefing on whether the Biden administration would try to shut down Twitter if the platform hosts content that it doesn’t “like.” “When you say that you’re going to be monitoring some of the speech on [Twitter], if you see something that you don’t like, would you try to shut Twitter down?” Doocy asked. “So, look, you know, when you — when you talk about monitoring, you know, it is — I hate to break it to you, Peter: Just like everybody else, we very much monitor the news,”...

Conservative lawmakers and members of the Republican National Committee have labeled the new leader of House Democrats an "election denier" because the new leader claimed the 2016 presidential election was fake. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who was elected to replace House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as the leader of House Democrats on Wednesday, has denied the legitimacy of the 2016 election at least eight times, according to a researcher from the RNC. The 2016 contest resulted in the election of Donald Trump over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

California’s Department of Justice mistakenly posted the names, addresses and birthdays of nearly 200,000 gun owners on the internet because officials didn’t follow policies or understand how to operate their website, according to an investigation released Wednesday. The investigation, conducted by an outside law firm hired by the California Department of Justice, found that personal information for 192,000 people was downloaded 2,734 times by 507 unique IP addresses during a roughly 12-hour period in late June. All of those people had applied for a permit to carry a concealed gun. The data was exposed just days after the U.S. Supreme...

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg slammed Apple over its dominance over the app store market Wednesday, ramping up his criticism of the tech giant on the heels of similar comments made by new Twitter CEO Elon Musk. Zuckerberg called Apple’s control in the app store market “problematic” at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit. “It is the only one where one company can control what apps get on the device. I don’t think it’s sustainable or good,” Zuckerberg said. Apple only allows apps to be downloaded through the Apple App Store on devices that run on its iOS, such as iPhones...

“Manhattanites are actually the ones causing this damage to themselves,” New York City Councilman Joe Borelli said Monday, commenting on the skyrocketing crime in his city. In an appearance on Fox & Friends First, Borelli offered an explanation for why New York City crime is up 27.6% and subway felonies are up 40% from last year. Borelli called the city’s crime problem self-inflicted, because NYC overwhelming elected a soft-on-crime district attorney, Alvin Bragg, who campaigned on a promise to prosecute fewer law-breakers: “Unfortunately, New Yorkers are learning that you get what you deserve. “They overwhelming elected this guy, Alvin Bragg,...

Tens of millions of Americans who thought they’d gotten a huge and unexpected break suddenly can’t be sure. In August, President Biden told those laboring under obscene amounts of student loan debt that if they earn less than $125,000 per year, they would be eligible to have at least $10,000, and possibly up to $20,000, of that debt forgiven. Since then, 26 million people have applied for that relief, and 16 million have been approved so far. But now they’re in limbo, as a slew of Republican-led legal challenges claiming that Biden’s order exceeds his powers have frozen the loan...

  • Vermont agrees to pay religious school tuition where public schools are unavailable

Parents in Vermont can now use the state’s tuition assistance for towns without public education at faith-based schools, attorneys announced Thursday, ending a 20-year dispute. The Vermont settlement was filed in court papers Wednesday, said the Alliance Defending Freedom, which represented two parents and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Burlington, Vermont, in suits against Education Secretary Daniel M. French. ADF legal counsel Paul Schmitt said in a statement, “For more than two decades, Vermont unlawfully excluded religious schools and their students from public benefits, essentially eliminating school choice for many parents in the state. As the U.S. Supreme Court recently...
