On 20th June 1567, a few days after Scottish rebels apprehended Mary, Queen of Scots, servants of James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton, allegedly found a silver casket of eight letters, two marriage contracts (which apparently proved that Mary had agreed to marry Bothwell before his divorce) and twelve sonnets. The casket was found in the possession of James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell and third husband of Mary, Queen of Scots. What was important about these letters? Well, the eight letters found in the casket were allegedly written by Mary to Bothwell and one was said to implicate the...

Raffesnperger won his primary with 52% of the vote to prevent a runoff. Brian Kemp, who was booed at the state convention, surprisingly won his primary in Georgia after a rally with Mike Pence, by 74% to 22%. And on Tuesday, popular conservative and Trump supporter Vernon Jones — who just months ago would receive a rock star’s welcome at rallies — lost to his opponent Mike Collins. Vernon Jones lost his race 76% to 24%. So Georgia was a clean sweep against President Trump and his supporters. If we want to believe the numbers — Trump only has 24%...

Former President Donald Trump rescinded his endorsement of Republican Rep. Mo Brooks earlier this year — and it likely just cost him his seat. GOP candidate Katie Britt was declared the winner of Alabama’s Republican Senate run-off on Tuesday night. She will face Democrat Will Boyd in November’s general election for the open Senate seat, which is predicted to remain in Republican hands. Last week, Trump tossed his full support behind Britt. Britt received the most votes in the state’s GOP primary but she failed to win more than 50 percent support on election night. Britt is outgoing Republican Sen....

Memorial of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, Religious Matthew 7:6, 12-14 Friends, today’s Gospel raises a crucial question about heaven and hell: Who will be in and who will be out? Origen argued that all people will be saved. For how could God’s love allow even one person to be damned? And St. Augustine argued that the vast majority of human beings were going to be damned. Here’s how I approach this issue. The doctrine concerning hell is a corollary of two more fundamental truths: that God is love and that we are free. Love is all that God is. He’s not...

Researchers identified a greater increase in functional capacity, the ability to perform activities of daily living, as a result of Nordic walking in patients with coronary heart disease compared to standard high-intensity interval training and moderate-to-vigorous intensity continuous training. Cardiovascular rehabilitation and exercise training programs following major cardiovascular events are associated with considerable improvements in functional capacity and cardiorespiratory fitness, as well as mental health. However, some individuals do not enjoy monotonous forms of exercise, such as walking and stationary cycling, and therefore may stop exercising once their cardiovascular rehabilitation program is completed. Researchers explored more diverse exercise options that...

Court still has to approve the winning bid for the propertyAn iconic piece of St. John's history and the city's skyline has been sold for more than $3 million — to a trio of Catholic groups hoping to save the building from developers. "The feeling we have is one of relief and euphoria and excitement for the future," Rob Blackie, a member of the joint committee who had been bidding on the historic property, told CBC News on Tuesday morning. The basilica complex is one of some two dozen properties owned by the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of St. John's...

Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said Tuesday night she has decided to seek a retraining order against a House Democrat staffer who was captured by Capitol Police on security cameras defacing posters outside her Washington office. Greene told Just the News that she felt like she had no choice but to seek the protective order against Timothy Hysom, the chief of staff to Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Jake Auchincloss, after the U.S. attorney's office in Washington declined a police request to issue an arrest warrant and charge the staffer. "Nancy Pelosi and Democrat leadership don't believe in protecting me. So I...

Just moments ago, President Joe Biden admitted, for the first time, “We need more refining capacity,” in reference to the gasoline, diesel, and other energy shortages that are contributing significantly inflation. But he then added, “This idea that [the oil and gas firms] don’t have oil to drill & to bring up is simply not true.” In fact, as I have been reporting, Biden killed a major oil refinery expansion on May 14, just five weeks ago, and killed a one million acre oil & gas lease proposed for Alaska on May 12. It is be great news if Biden...

On the 19th of June 2022, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia visited the Cathedral of the Savior in Penza. After serving Liturgy, he gave a sermon based on the Gospel Reading for the day; highlighting the words of Our Lord, “Whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in Heaven” (Matthew 10:32). The Patriarch explained that to understand this passage one might understand confession as another word for faithfulness; “Faithfulness to the Lord is what confession is all about.” He went on to point out that the Church even...

Another major media interview with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, another missed opportunity to ask Clinton about her role in the Russian collusion scam. Edward Luce, the U.S. national editor for the Financial Times (FT), recently interviewed Clinton over lunch at a Washington hotel. FT published parts of the interview on June 18. Like virtually every other reporter with the mainstream media, Luce asked mostly softball questions and never asked about what she knew and when she knew it with respect to her campaign’s financing of the now-discredited Steele dossier. It isn’t that Luce is unaware of the allegations....

The ongoing border crisis has transformed illegal immigration into an industrial-scale international smuggling black market. MATAMOROS, Mexico — It’s easy to find gut-wrenching stories at the border. Ask almost any migrant you meet in northern Mexico and you’ll hear about the violence and hardships they endured to get as far as they have. Alba Luz Perdomo, for example, fled Honduras with her husband and 13-year-old daughter after a gang killed her brother and threatened to kill them too. But that was just the beginning of their troubles. They were forced to leave a farm where they had been working in...

When the late Ronald Reagan assumed the office of the presidency in early 1981, one of the first groups clamoring for a meeting was a panel of Reform rabbis who wanted to discuss abortion. Now, this could have been a beautiful moment in both American history, the U.S. then at age 205, and in Jewish history, then at age 3297. The Jewish People have fought for the rights of babies in the womb and after birth since the days of the Romans who allowed the father, as paterfamilias, to kill an unwanted baby within the first month of life. Back...

NATO member Estonia says an Mi-8 Hip helicopter belonging to the Russian Border Guard intruded into its airspace for about two minutes on Saturday night. ***** Russian warplanes fly through Lithuania’s airspace every week, its MoD said. Like the intrusion into Estonia, they usually have no pre-filed flight plans and transponders that are switched off. Last week there were eight violations, ERR reported and 13 the previous week. ***** Russian naval vessels are also apparently causing problems. The Russian ambassador to Denmark was summoned to the Danish foreign ministry on Friday after a Russian military vessel twice violated that NATO...
