Several weeks ago, someone with access to the Supreme Court’s inner workings leaked a draft of Justice Samuel Alito’s opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. Written in February, the draft decimated the legal foundation of abortion as a constitutional right and overturned the federal right to an abortion as guaranteed by Roe v. Wade. Although this draft did not represent a final decision, the leak itself was obviously meant to stir up controversy . It was perhaps also likely designed to persuade undecided justices to shift their votes. Regardless, it was incredibly damaging to the reputation of the...

The leap of a frog is a quintessential evolutionary feat. The critter’s girthy gams thrust from behind to springboard the body up and out; a pair of acrobatic arms stretch forward to seamlessly break the fall. The landing is “very precise, very controlled,” says Richard Essner, a biologist at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. One might expect that any frog worth its salt should be able to stick it. “And most frogs,” says Marcio Pie, a biologist at Edge Hill University, in the United Kingdom, “do.” Then there is the poor pumpkin toadlet. Spanning roughly a centimeter from snout to bum—about...

The Paleses’ lived most of their adult lives, making pizza in Turin, Italy, before moving to Potenza and then emigrating in 1969 with their three children to the United States. According to Marisa Palese, daughter of Nancy and Roco, the couple opened their first pizza parlor in...

When former Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke intimated in early 2017 that he would be joining Donald Trump's nascent administration, CNN obtained a copy of Clarke's master's thesis from the Naval Postgraduate School and revealed that Clarke had copied blocks of text from other sources. The borrowed passages, as CNN noted, had footnotes identifying their sources, but they failed to "indicate with quotation marks that he is taking the words verbatim." Few responses to CNN's revelation encapsulated the giddiness of the academic left more than that of Kevin M. Kruse, a Princeton historian and rising social media star. When the Clarke...
