Rice lost the state’s 7th Congressional District to State Rep. Russell Fry, the first time during this primary season that a Republican who voted for impeachment lost a nomination bid. But if you get to chatting with him for just a minute or two, it makes all the sense in the world. After earning his degree in education, the Castlewood, Virginia-born Milton was barely making ends...

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. — In truth, the last Howard Johnson’s restaurant closed long before the one in Lake George, New York, did last week. The only thing that particular location had in common with the fried clams and 28 flavors of ice cream the restaurant was famous for was maintaining the iconic orange roof that signaled to families for generations you were pulling up to a place you could trust for known comfort food at reasonable prices. What began as Howard Deering Johnson taking over his father’s struggling medicine store and soda fountain in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1925 grew because of...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration proposed Wednesday that future planes produce lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions before they can be certified by federal regulators. The Federal Aviation Administration proposal would increase fuel-efficiency standards for jets and large turboprop and propeller-driven planes that it has not yet certified, and for planes built after Jan. 1, 2028. The FAA will develop means to determine the relationship between fuel efficiency and reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. The FAA said the rule would bring the United States in line with carbon dioxide emission standards set by the United Nation’s aviation organization. Planes...

Degrowth broadly means shrinking rather than growing economies, so we use less of the world’s energy and resources and put wellbeing ahead of profit. The solution is essentially to move away from the assumption that growth is good. One of the things degrowthers would like to see is the end of gross domestic product (GDP) being used as a measure of economic progress, notes The Conversation. GDP measures an economy’s entire output of goods and services. One of the things degrowthers would like to see is the end of gross domestic product (GDP) being used as a measure of economic...

Dante Alighieri is a symbol of Italy and its poetry, but also of the city he was born, Firenze. A proud Florentine, Dante never kept the love he had for his hometown a secret, so why is he buried in Ravenna? Well, because that’s where he passed, of course, but the matter of where his mortal remains should rest was the cause of mystery and diatribes for centuries. Dante rests, today, in a quiet corner of the Emilia-Romagna town, his marble mausoleum protected by sunlight and heat by the leafy beauty of an oak planted by poet and Nobel laureate...

Had a discussion with a friend who showed me his vax card. I'm not vaxxed. He told me the "lot number" on his vax card is specific/dedicated to the individual vaccine he took. I told him that would be impossible as their would be 220+ million lot numbers and that the lot number is associated with the lot of vaccines produced. Does anyone know the correct answer??

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Recognition of Juneteenth, the effective end of slavery in the U.S., gained traction after the police killing of George Floyd in 2020. But after an initial burst of action, the movement to have it recognized as an official holiday in the states has largely stalled. Although almost every state recognizes Juneteenth in some fashion, many have been slow to do more than issue a proclamation or resolution, even as some continue to commemorate the Confederacy. Lawmakers in Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and other states failed to advance proposals this year that would have closed state...

Carano’s career, however, was not over. She signed on to a starring role in the film “Terror on the Prairie,” which was developed by The Daily Wire.
