DeGrowth - What’s behind the Economic Theory and Why it Matters Right Now
WEF ^ | 6/15/22 | Victoria Maesterson

Degrowth broadly means shrinking rather than growing economies, so we use less of the world’s energy and resources and put wellbeing ahead of profit.

The solution is essentially to move away from the assumption that growth is good.

One of the things degrowthers would like to see is the end of gross domestic product (GDP) being used as a measure of economic progress, notes The Conversation. GDP measures an economy’s entire output of goods and services.

He says degrowth “doesn’t mean we are going to be living in caves with candles”. Instead, it might mean people in rich countries changing their diets, living in smaller houses and driving and travelling less.

Well, if you don’t subscribe to ‘Degrowth’, it’s off to the gulags you go...

Ask these degrowthers what year in the past they want GDP per capita to go back to and that will give you an idea of the standard of living they want.
Does degrowth also include shrinking the government to levels in the past?

Check out the graph. As you can see (as we all know by now) their goal is to have all the nations ‘even’.

He says degrowth “doesn’t mean we are going to be living in caves with candles”.

Right, there won’t be any candles.

On an individual level, they are welcomed to live how they please. However, their goal is to intentionally destroy prosperity.

The common riff raff can become hunter/gatherers and serve as servants for the liberal elite.

Does the term include reducing the number of children?

Not enough caves, either. Think thatched huts.

“degrowthers would like to see is the end of gross domestic product (GDP) being used as a measure of economic progress”

I notice they don’t propose any alternative measure, because there is no alternative measure that makes any sense and would also support their narrative. Let’s think about possible alternatives:

* standard of living - Well, they are flat out saying peoples’ standard of living will decline, so that won’t work, since it would show the same downward trend as GDP
* birth rates - This one is linked to standard of living so it also won’t work. Either people reduce their birth rate as the standard of living declines, or if they don’t, the standard of living declines faster because they are trying to support more children than they can afford, and have to cut out luxuries to do so.
* government debt/deficit - Could be a good measure, but it won’t work for degrowthers, since as people have less money to spend, the government will have to step in and spend more in order to keep the economy running, and without growth, there can be no increased tax income to pay for increased spending, so debts and deficits must constantly rise.

Am I missing any potential measure of economic progress that doesn’t paint a horrible picture in a “degrowther” world?

Instead, it might mean people in rich countries changing their diets, living in smaller houses and driving and travelling less.

This can only be accomplished by stealing their wealth and appropriating it to the correct class of people who then become wealthy and affuent. See how that works?

I also notice they are also transitioning from the “sustainable growth/development” buzzword of the 00s to now “degrowth”. Slippery slope incrementalism at work again, just this time with economics, rather than sexual morality.

Without specifics and simply put, they are crashing the economy to implement their economic great reset. We see deliberate decisions they have made here in the US. Fuel and lock downs are two examples. They are working hard towards this communist utopia. (Using the climate as the noble reason for our sacrifice). Tyrannical elitists.

I am sure that this does not include our so-called betters. I guess they will still be able to drive and travel as much as they like.

I wonder if the are trying to bring back feudalism. If they are; then they forget that back then, families tended to be larger than they are today.

Degrowthers assume they’ll be part of the privileged class.

Since the WEF and their followers and believers desire to murder 90% of the human race, it stands to reason that the GDP will fall by a lot. Also the vicious wars that will take place once they start the killing will also cause degrowth.

From the linked article:

“Our results confirm that reducing and redistributing income alone, within current development paradigms, leads to limited greenhouse gas (GHG) emission mitigation from agriculture and land-use change, as the nutrition transition towards unsustainable diets already occurs at relatively low income levels. Instead, we show that a structural, qualitative food system transformation can achieve a steady-state food system economy that is net GHG-neutral by 2100 while improving nutritional outcomes. This sustainable transformation reduces material throughput via a convergence towards a needs-based food system, is enabled by a more equitable income distribution and includes efficient resource allocation through the pricing of GHG emissions as a complementary strategy. It thereby integrates degrowth and efficiency perspectives.”
