South Carolina Republican Representative Tony Rice, who had served since 2012, was ousted by a Trump-backed candidate in Tuesday’s state GOP primary after earning the former president’s ire for voting to impeach him over the January 6 riots.
Rice lost the state’s 7th Congressional District to State Rep. Russell Fry, the first time during this primary season that a Republican who voted for impeachment lost a nomination bid.
Fry’s win was also the first victory by a Trump endorsed candidate against an incumbent so far this year, NBC News reported. Trump candidates had lost in five primary challenges against incumbents before Tuesday’s upset.
...Trump said: “The biggest News of the evening so far is that Russell Fry beat Impeach Master Tom Rice with a vote of more than 51%, therefore WINNING OUTRIGHT with no need for a run-off.”

What spin. many of the people stepped down and didn’t get a chance to lose to the Trump backed candidate.
Fry-Rice - now I’m all hungry for Chinese food...
Good riddance!
I hope we get my POS congressman Newhouse primaried soon
The MSM won’t tell people, but Fry was the first who 1.) voted candidate to impeach Trump and 2.) faced a Trump-backed candidate.
And in the very first instance of 1 and 2 occurring this year, he lost.
You got the names switched. Fry was the Trump supporter. Rice was the incumbent impeachment voter.
Liz Cheney, be afraid. Be very afraid.
Alex Mooney beat an incumbent. It was incumbent vs incumbent but should still count.
Oh, I did.
Thanks for the correction.
But nonetheless, the first instance of a Congress critter who voted to impeach Trump going head to head against a Trump backed candidate this year lost.
PAY BACK is such a Bitch !!!
Sassy voted to impeach. Should be interesting to see if he gets primaried in 2026. He’s trying to change his image from a wet behind the ears Benedict Arnold to Jeremiah telling home truths to the great unwashed:
“We Republicans have a choice to make: We can either continue to drift as a party that exists as a vehicle for the grievances of the angriest, oldest folks, or we can be the future-focused party of 2030 – with policies centered on the future of work and the future of war,” Sasse said in a speech Thursday night at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.
In case you missed his point, Sasse made it again later in the address. Here’s the key:
“In the 2016 presidential campaign, you had two candidates with wildly different solutions, but their fundamental diagnosis was the same: ‘The system is rigged; you’re getting screwed; you’re a victim; this country is going down the tubes.’
“You’re victims.
“The left wants a powerful nameless-but-supposedly-benevolent bureaucracy; the right wants a strongman daddy figure. But the loudest all agree on one thing: America (the one given to us by the Founders, the one kept for us by our parents and grandparents) doesn’t work anymore – it can’t work anymore.”
And this too: “Matt Gaetz and Madison Cawthorn, they might as well be from the far left – because like all prophets of doom, they love ranting to the American people that we’re just victims.” ]
It wasn’t just “the former President’s ire”. That by itself is nothing. It is the people who wanted Trump as President and didn’t think he deserved to be impeached over a phone call that was leaked to the media by spies. There was absolutely no justification for impeachment either time. Anyone who voted for it was playing on the wrong side. He took a gamble and lost. May he never be seen again.
Sasse, did anyone ever tell you that you’re incisive and far seeing? Didn’t think so. You’re not. In fact, you’re an arrogant prick with his head stuck so far up your a@@ that every time you fart you think it’s a fresh breeze and keep swimming up stream. And that’s just my boiler plate insult for idiots. You’re not worth coming up with a new one. Hope you get primaried, too.
Bye!
