Okay, finally got Covid, may have had it previously. But this time, temperature is 104-105, sore throat, congestion, cough, achy joints, etc. I have not received any of the experimental Covid vaccines, but am current on all other medically recommened and approved shots. After sitting through six weeks of gut-wrenching testimony and deliberating for nearly 13 hours, the Fairfax County, Va., jury reached its verdict in the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard defamation trial. The jury decided unanimously in favor of Depp on Wednesday, finding that Heard intentionally and maliciously defamed the Pirates of the Caribbean star when she wrote her 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post about her experiences as a domestic abuse survivor. Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Judge Penney Azcarate reduced the punitive damages to Virginia's statutory cap of $350,000. Heard...

Judges ruled on Tuesday that bumble bees can be classed as fish under California environmental laws. This unlocks protections for the state's four endangered bumble bee species. The ruling clarifies the state's confusing classification in its environmental protections. A trio of judges in California said on Tuesday that bees can be legally classed as a type of fish as part of a ruling that brings added conservation protections for the endangered species. "The issue presented here is whether the bumble bee, a terrestrial invertebrate, falls within the definition of fish," the judges wrote in their ruling. And, they concluded, it...

The New York Times appeared to be tickled pink over liberal-run states shoehorning President Joe Biden’s Disinformation Governance Board idea into their own election governance processes. The Times technology and regulation reporter Cecilia Kang celebrated Connecticut for a reported recent state effort to hire an election “misinformation” expert with a $150,000 salary. Kang’s story painted the idea of Connecticut’s so-called state “misinformation” officer like he or she would be a dogged crime-fighter. The story had a fawning headline: “Help Wanted: State Misinformation Sheriff.” Kang whined how the state faced “a bevy of falsehoods about voting that swirled around online.” To...

What do people who don’t believe in evil do? They blame inanimate objects. Guns. 19 years ago, a middle-aged unemployed taxi driver carrying two milk cartons full of gasoline walked onto a South Korean subway and started a fire that killed 192 people. That was not a milk carton problem. Nor was it a gasoline problem. 6 years ago, a Muslim terrorist drove a truck into a Bastille Day event in Nice, France killing 86 and wounding over 400 other people. Body parts were being pried out of his wheel wells. That was not a truck problem. Across the long...

We have been struck by another tragedy this week in Texas. The cries go up, “Something must be done!” And indeed, it must. If we do not take active measures to stop this killing, the momentum will continue. Copycat actors will duplicate previous shootings, as we have seen since Columbine. While some factions of the country will attempt to advance a political agenda, others will go about securing the most vulnerable places in our society. What if there was a model we could use to end the carnage? There is.In several school districts across the country, a program called “F.A.S.T.E.R” exists....

Donald Trump filed appellate papers on Wednesday that are his latest effort to stymie a 3-year inquiry into his business by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The papers, filed in US District Court in Albany, came in quick response to a decision by a judge of that court, Brenda K. Sannes, who on Friday dismissed Trump's effort out of hand. Trump says in his new filing that he will ask the US Court of Appeals, the next federal court up, to reverse Sannes' decision, which tossed his lawsuit after James defended her probe by asserting she has found "substantial"...

Earlier this month we learned the Obamacare premium subsidies that were included in the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 are set to expire on Dec. 31, 2022. Got an Obamacare subsidy? Your premiums are about to go up, and you’re probably going to get a letter informing you of your new jacked-up fees right before the midterms. Naturally, Democrats are concerned this is going to add to their political problems. “Right before the election, people would get notices of big premium increases, and that will certainly not reflect well on Democrats,” Larry Levitt, a health policy expert...
