BRUSSELS, March 4 (Reuters) - NATO allies rejected Ukraine's demand for no-fly zones on Friday, saying they were increasing support but that stepping in directly would lead to a broader, even more brutal European war so far limited to Russia's assault on its neighbour. Ukraine, a former Soviet republic that wants to join the European Union and Western military alliance NATO, is not a currently a member of either. "We are not part of this conflict, and we have a responsibility to ensure it does not escalate and spread beyond Ukraine," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference.

Tennesseans were outraged when a patients rights caption bill failed on Tuesday before they had a chance to speak. Doctors and citizens from all over Tennessee traveled to the Nashville Capitol, packing the Health Subcommittee room and hallways, to testify on behalf of the bill sponsored by Representative Todd Warner (R-Lewisburg-D92). The Healthcare Recipient Rights Act would ensure that patients are allowed visitation by family members and advocates in the case of inability to make one’s own medical decisions. In addition, it requires informed consent for treatments that are authorized for emergency use only. Warner was promised by Health Subcommittee...

A violent reaction to a potent cannabis edible in 2020 has sent a remorseful London man to jail. Kristopher Mitchell, 42, told Ontario Court in Brantford he is ashamed of his behaviour after he consumed a “gummy” with 24 times the amount of THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis, than can be sold legally in a store. He pleaded guilty to robbery, impaired operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, flight from police, assault and resisting arrest. Assistant Crown attorney Michael Dean said Mitchell “wreaked havoc on a portion of the community. “He violently confronted a complete...

It appears our trepidation was in orderI checked the headlines this morning: there is nothing that requires your attention. Certainly nothing you can do anything about. Therefore I suggest you light a candle, read a book,or write a book……even if it never gets published.Carve out a bit of solitude that allows the world to slip by until such time as you are ready to be in it again. When from our better selves we have too long Been parted by the hurrying world, and droop, Sick of its business, of its pleasures tired, How gracious, how benign is solitude. William...

On 4 March 2022, a lonely, spent rocket booster will smack into the surface of the Moon at nearly 6,000 mph (9,656 km/h). Once the dust has settled, NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter will move into position to get an up-close view of the smoldering crater and hopefully shed some light on the mysterious physics of planetary impacts. As a planetary scientist who studies the Moon, I view this unplanned impact as an exciting opportunity. The Moon has been a steadfast witness to Solar System history, its heavily cratered surface recording innumerable collisions over the last 4 billion years. However, scientists...

SINGAPORE—Commodity markets extended their bull runs on Thursday, with aluminium, coal and palm oil all hitting new records while crude oil and wheat scaled multi-year highs as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine disrupted global raw material flows.
