BRUSSELS, March 4 (Reuters) - NATO allies rejected Ukraine's demand for no-fly zones on Friday, saying they were increasing support but that stepping in directly would lead to a broader, even more brutal European war so far limited to Russia's assault on its neighbour.
Ukraine, a former Soviet republic that wants to join the European Union and Western military alliance NATO, is not a currently a member of either.
"We are not part of this conflict, and we have a responsibility to ensure it does not escalate and spread beyond Ukraine," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference.

NATO hasn’t committed jack squat to regional security. When Trump called out Germany and other NATO members for not paying their fair share a few years back, they squirmed.
Nato is not obligated to do anything and Ukraine because they’re not in nato
I also think it’s better to give Ukraine a chance to beat back the Russians on their own, and allow them to negotiate a settlement between them, free of outsiders.

Remember NATO’s farce of a ‘no-fly zone’ in Libya in 2011, when they were bombing the Libyan Army’s tanks and ground forces?

Agreed. Any military action from NATO against Russia would be a declaration of war. Ukraine is not a NATO member and this not entitled to protection. I have pointed this out to many FReepers but believe it is a waste of time. As is common on most forums, far too many people post comments based upon emotion without giving any critical thought to the matter.
As far as George Soros, he’s an evil minion doing the Devil’s work, so it would be par for the course if he wants another world war since he benefitted so much from the last one
The reality is that Putin has proven he isn’t going to stop. Therefore, we are already in a war with Russia at least the rest of the world is. Why not amputate 50% of his military while it’s over extended? I know, “he might go nuclear”. Well, Putin is going to use that same threat the next country he invades. Sanctions won’t stop that.
Russia's economy a little larger than Italy. If Italy took over a few corrupt small African countries would it be worth World War III? Especially if the damage could be undone later?
Russia's always been a swing in the upcoming war... the worst case scenario is Russia bonds with China. Can that be stopped? Putin doesn't have the means to keep taking countries if he takes Ukraine - - as long as Ukraine doesn't totally roll over.
If Putin takes Ukraine and the West hands out a punishment MORE APPROPRIATE FOR CHINA - one that gets China's attention - then we've saved Taiwan. For now until we can replace chip factories and maybe forever... Commie countries aren't stable - too much rests with one man. The stakes here are more than passions for the Ukrainian people.

The biggest outcome of this conflict will be the exposure of how impotent and useless NATO and the Western European military alliance has become.
