Just a quick discussion. I've done a lot of scuba diving in the Great Lakes (mostly Huron, some in Superior). Most don't realized it's rich underwater history of many shipwrecks, many very well preserved due to the cold fresh water instead of salt. Before cars and roadways were abundant, people traveled by ship quite often. However there were quite a few large storms in the early 1900's that sent a number of ships to watery graves, some well past the 130' limit most advanced recreational divers would try for. Anyone know where there's a good sub manufacturer that could explore...

Gov. Kate Brown has surpassed her predecessors, John Kitzhaber and Ted Kulongoski, in using her broad clemency authority. Brown said she is using her power as it was intended: to correct injustice, which includes not only reviewing what she sees as harsh sentences in old juvenile cases but also addressing the overrepresentation of Black and Latino people in Oregon’s prisons. Kate Brown in her final two years in office has become the busiest governor in modern Oregon history – and among the busiest in the country – to use her power to grant mercy to criminal defendants, offering clemency to...

...in January, on an off day, at home with his wife, Monica, and their two small children, when the 34-year-old veteran goaltender got a telephone call asking if he was interested in suiting up and playing for another squad: The United States Olympic Team. “He’s never given up,” says Zach Redmond, a college teammate of Nagle’s at Ferris State University who now plays pro hockey in Germany. “He’s always had a good attitude about it and worked hard and he’s finally getting the break he deserves.” “Nowadays, there’s not a guy on the ice that can’t score on you,” Nagle...

A stray bullet struck an MTA bus in Harlem on Sunday, coming within inches of a passenger — and part of a wave of city violence that now has some drivers seeking bullet-proof vests, according to officials. The frightening incident occurred on the M101 line shortly before 2:30 p.m. when the slug lodged in the side of the bus, which had about 30 passengers, during a nearby shootout, police said. None of the shaken riders or driver were injured — but they easily could have been, said Richie Davis, vice president and chief of staff for Local 100 of the...

The March 2022 North American blizzard, alternatively named Winter Storm Mandy, was the costliest and most intense extratropical cyclone ever recorded in the Atlantic. It developed as an elongated trough over the northwestern Caribbean Sea on March 4, and struck the Yucatan Peninsula before moving east-northeast, impacting Florida and the Bahamas before paralleling the east coast of the United States. A combination of the absorption of a second, weaker low-pressure system near Bermuda, an unusually sharp sea surface temperature gradient along its path, a rapidly cooling upper troposphere, and the presence of an anomalously strong jet stream resulted in the...

An FBI database of police officers killed in the line of duty shows that more have died since Joe Biden became president than deaths dating back to 1995. “We believe it’s a combination … of the George Floyd protests — riots, if you will; a general feeling of a preference for less law enforcement; and less prosecution and less policing,” Jason Johnson, president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund (LELDF) and a 20-year police veteran, said in a Fox News report. “Law enforcement officers have essentially been marginalized and demoralized and cast aside and encouraged now to enforce the...

House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy reacted to House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi telling American athletes at the 2022 Olympics not to risk upsetting China’s government, stating Pelosi doesn’t say that to athletes protesting the U.S. and after protecting China “from any investigations into the origin of COVID,” Pelosi is now protecting them from facing criticism. McCarthy said, “We had — more than eight months we have requested a bill to move the Olympics from China. She would not even bring that up until today. … We have watched in history, 1936 and others, where very bad people would use...

CNA Deutsch, CNA’s German-language news partner, reported that the text was passed by 174 votes in favor, 30 against, and 6 abstentions on Feb. 4 during a plenary session of the Synodal Way, a controversial multi-year process bringing together the country’s bishops and lay people. The vote will be seen as a direct challenge to the Vatican, which has underlined that the Church has no power to ordain women as priests. The document, entitled “Women in Ministries...

On Friday Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) said House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s advice that American athletes competing at the 2022 Winter Olympics should avoid upsetting China “is the definition of the weakness that is taking place in the West right now.” Mast said, “She’s doing the same thing with policy that she’s doing with the Olympics.”

Day two of the Beijing Games saw competitors and officials rant and rave about the facilities and conditions they were subjected to in the Chinese capital. First it was Germans who made their feelings known about the lack of decent catering at the Alpine course near Yanqing. This followed the decision to cancel the blue riband men’s downhill on Sunday due to high winds and move it back to the Monday instead. Skiing coach Christian Schwaiger moaned: “The catering is extremely questionable because really it’s not catering at all. “I’d have expected that the Olympic Committee would be capable of...

I’m going to say something that is going to be both controversial, and also incontrovertibly true. If you don’t like red pill moments, move on now, because once you see what I see, you will never be able to unsee it. This one incontrovertible fact will have a huge impact on how you view not just your own political views, but politics in general.Let me start with a definition. The American Heritage Dictionary defines ‘terrorism’ as follows: “The use of violence or the threat of violence, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political goals.”Consider our government’s handling of Covid-19....

The Canadian truckers’ revolt is a classic 21st century conflict. On one side, working people of all sorts (it’s gone way beyond truckers) standing up for freedom. On the other side, vicious plutocrats trying to hang on to their corrupt powers by smearing those who dare to stand up for their rights. Via InstaPundit, check out this wonderful video that contrasts Justin Trudeau’s farcical condemnation of the Ottawa protest with video footage of the reality:Trudeau’s words versus the reality. Brilliant video! Are Trudeau and his supporters delusional? I don’t think so; not Trudeau in any event. He can’t possibly be that...
