Despite around 60% of Americans being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, health officials warn that hospitalizations are rising as the Delta variant continues to surge, with immunity within vaccinated people declining. Public-health officials have displayed apprehension regarding this upcoming winter season and the potential of another surge in cases, though those who are unvaccinated are still at greater risk, being 11 times more likely to die from the virus. "What we're starting to see now is an uptick in hospitalizations among people who've been vaccinated but not boosted," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden. On...

Washington (AFP) – Joe Biden celebrated his 79th birthday Saturday one day after being declared "healthy" and "fit" for the presidency following an extensive but routine checkup. The US president, who spent the day in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, had no public events scheduled. That didn't stop a number of top Democrats from sending him their congratulations. Vice President Kamala Harris wished him "a happy and joyous day" on Twitter. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi meanwhile tweeted that "America is grateful for your heart, your decency, your love of country, your love of people, and your principled leadership and vision...

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been quite busy lately. He has four movies awaiting release: "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," "Spider-Man: No Way Home," "The Electrical Life of Louis Wain," and "The Power of the Dog." It was Cumberbatch's dedication to immersing himself in this last film's character that got him into a bit of health trouble. "The Power of the Dog," based on the 1967 novel by Thomas Savage, is a story about an early 20th century Montana rancher, Phil Burbank, who torments the wife of his younger brother, George. Phil is described as "a great reader, a...

“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise” (Ephesians 5:15). Every believer is responsible to walk wisely. I believe the moment an individual becomes saved, God deposits enough wisdom in him to make him absolutely responsible for his behavior. Someone may say, “Wait a minute! How can a brand-new believer walk in wisdom? Doesn’t he grow into that? Haven’t wise Christians been saved for many years?” Such questions miss the point of Ephesians 5:15. The first word in this verse takes us back to Paul’s invitation to become saved in verse 14: “Awake, sleeper, and...

A very important passage of the Bible that often confuses readers is “Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and his disciples came up to show him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, ‘Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.’ Now as he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, ‘Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of your coming, and of...

[Catholic Caucus] The Persecuted Mystical Body of Christ: Our Source of Direction and ConfidenceThe Church is the Mystical Body of Christ, resembling Christ and suffering as Christ suffered. When Pope Pius XII wrote this encyclical during Word War II, the world and the Church suffered immensely, but he knew that greater sufferings were on the horizon. As Christopher Ferrara related in The Secret Still Hidden, Cardinal Pacelli (the future Pope Pius XII) made the following observation while he was the Vatican Secretary of State during Pope Pius XI’s papacy:“I am worried by the Blessed Virgin’s messages to Lucia of Fatima....

People who are fully vaccinated will be rewarded with more freedoms after the state reaches that 80 percent double dosed rate. But this approach is drawing criticism from civil liberties activists with warnings of risks of Government encroaching on rights to freedom. Angus Murray, Vice President of the Queensland Council for Civil Liberties, spoke with Sarah Howells.

For those refusing vaccination because they feel it is a violation of civil liberties, would it not make sense to check in with the two largest civil liberty organizations in North America? In Canada, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association is an independent organization committed to defending the rights, dignity, safety and freedoms of all. Here’s what Cara Zwibel, CCLA director of fundamental freedoms, and Brenda McPhail, director of privacy, technology and surveillance, have to say: “Working for an organization that is dedicated to human rights and civil liberties has been challenging during the pandemic, and not only, or even mostly,...

Volcano scientists issued an alert Wednesday, warning that a cloud of ash - from an eruption more than century ago - was headed toward Alaska's Kodiak Island. The ash is from the powerful 1912 eruption of Novarupta, a volcano on the Alaska Peninsula that dropped volcanic ash that is still visible today. Strong northwesterly winds in the vicinity of Katmai National Park and Preserve and Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes on Wednesday kicked up the loose volcano ash.

NEW YORK (AP) — A Fox News executive said Saturday the network did not pay Kyle Rittenhouse's family for any special access during Rittenhouse's murder trial or after his acquittal, after it was announced that he would speak to Tucker Carlson for an interview to air on Monday. The comment came after Rittenhouse's trial attorney, Mark Richards, said that a Fox documentary crew was embedded with Rittenhouse's team against his wishes. Richards told The Associated Press on Saturday that he didn't think the filming was appropriate and that he had tossed the crew out of meetings several times. “It was...

A complaint alleges Pennslyvania election officials were tearing tapes 'into pieces and placing ... them into the trash stating they will have a campfire to burn the data.' Several residents of Delaware County Pennsylvania filed a sprawling lawsuit Thursday against the former Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, Delaware County, the Delaware County Board of Elections, and more than a dozen individual election officials. The lawsuit followed Wednesday’s night release of videotapes taken by a whistleblower capturing concerning behavior by several election officials in the Keystone state. A source familiar with the lawsuit provided access to the tapes, noting the then-unnamed...

Explanation: Predawn hours of November 19 found the Moon in partly cloudy skies over Cancun, Mexico. Captured in this telephoto snapshot, the lunar disk is not quite entirely immersed in Earth's dark umbral shadow during a long partial lunar eclipse. The partial eclipse was deep though, deep enough to show the dimmed but reddened light in Earth's shadow. That's a sight often anticipated by fans of total lunar eclipses. Wandering through the constellation Taurus, the eclipsed Moon's dimmer light also made it easier to spot the Pleiades star cluster. The stars of the Seven Sisters share this frame at the...

Never forget – the first thing Big Tech (writ large) did following the 2020 election was to modify all platform ‘terms of service’ with a new rule saying that any speech questioning the legitimacy of the election was akin to undermining the principles of democracy. They knew the scam they executed with fraudulent mail-in ballots and manipulated election results in several key counties.

VILLA COMALTITLAN, Mexico (Reuters) - Hundreds of Venezuelans are in a migrant caravan that departed this week from Mexico's southern border with Guatemala, according to organizers, just as Mexico is mulling tighter restrictions on their access to the country. Reuters spoke with a dozen Venezuelans who said they had left in the caravan of around 3,000 people from the city of Tapachula on Thursday after fleeing poverty and hardship in their homeland, where elections are due this weekend. "I don't want to stay in Mexico, we want to go to the United States, we just want them to let us...

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — A difficult political atmosphere for President Joe Biden may have become even more treacherous with the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse. Biden was already facing sliding poll numbers with an electorate worn down by the coronavirus pandemic and increasing inflation. Now, the president finds himself caught between outraged Democrats — some of whom were already stewing over Biden’s inability to land police reform and voting rights legislation — and Republicans looking to use the Rittenhouse case to exploit the national divide over matters of grievance and race. “This is one of the last things Biden wants to...
