President Joe Biden's administration should tap into emergency petroleum reserves to lower rising gasoline prices as Americans go into the holiday season, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Sunday. "We're here today because we need immediate relief at the gas pump and the place to look is the Strategic Petroleum Reserve," Schumer, a Democrat, said at a news conference in New York.

More than two million customers have been affected. The gas market spike has left companies, some of whom did not "hedge" or insure themselves against such fluctuations, having to buy energy at elevated levels while being contracted to sell it much more cheaply to their customers.
