Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), announced his resignation on Tuesday, just weeks after documents exposed that he made “untruthful” comments about U.S. federal funding of gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. “It has been an incredible privilege to lead this great agency for more than a decade,” Collins said in a statement posted at the NIH website. I love this agency and its people so deeply that the decision to step down was a difficult one, done in close counsel with my wife, Diane Baker, and my family. I am proud of all...

Wildfires in Oregon, California and Washington State this previous summer made spectacular headlines. The media took their leads from press releases issued by officials in the respective state capitals. They blamed drought, allegedly induced by man-caused climate change, that affected habitually dry terrain where the fires broke out. But is it appropriate to label changing climate as the primary cause with precedents recorded much earlier? Peshtigo today is a small, peaceful city in northeastern Wisconsin that once was the site of the largest (areal) and deadliest single wildfire in North American history. On October 8, 1871, a great wildfire destroyed...

In many ways, the story of Playboy Magazine is the story of the sexual revolution, from its first cover featuring Marilyn Monroe in 1953 to its current cover featuring a gay man dressed as a Playboy bunny. It is the story of moral degeneration, from lewdness to perversion. I wonder how all the hot-blooded, heterosexual male Playboy readers will fancy this bold new cover? In my 2017 book Saving a Sick America, I noted that on October 12 and 13, 2015, the internet lit up with headlines: “'Playboy' to stop publishing nude photos” (USA Today); “No more naked women in...

In a video appearance at the UN General Assembly, Mahmoud Abbas has delivered an “ultimatum” to Israel: You have one year to leave what he calls “all the Palestinian territories,” or else. Or else what? Or else he will bring the case before the International Court of Justice, which has no power to enforce anything. A report on this latest example of Palestinian preposterousness is here: “Israel ‘Has a Year to Withdraw From All Palestinian Territories,’ Abbas Says at UNGA,” Algemeiner, September 24, 2021:Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly via video link on Friday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud...

The Biden administration is aiding and abetting a wholesale invasion of the United States by illegal immigrants, with no idea of whether they are infected with COVID-19 or not. The waves of illegal immigrants, encouraged by President Biden’s open-border policies, keep coming, with no end in sight. Last month an estimated 20,000 Haitian immigrants entered the country illegally in successive groups that overwhelmed border control agents. The Haitians huddled close together in squalid conditions under the International Bridge in the border town of Del Rio, Texas. They weren’t immediately tested - or vaccinated - for COVID-19. That’s on top...

Since I was a child and marched in my first political demonstration on behalf of civil rights, a central concern of my life has been the equality of all people. As a Jew I was aware of the painful effects of prejudice, and as the child of communists I was involved in the Left’s efforts to denigrate the United States and weaken it for its enemies by exploiting the injustices to black Americans. As an adult, I came to learn that the Left didn’t care about actual black people or their welfare. It was only interested in using them as...

Many Conservatives these days are aligning themselves with fiscal conservative while ignoring and turning a blind eye to social moral positions. Tragically, it will be this complete abandonment of social morals, which we are seeing EXPONENTIALLY eroding right before our very eyes...
