Originally built to speed up calculations, a machine-learning system is now making shocking progress at the frontiers of experimental quantum physicsQuantum physicist Mario Krenn remembers sitting in a café in Vienna in early 2016, poring over computer printouts, trying to make sense of what MELVIN had found. MELVIN was a machine-learning algorithm Krenn had built, a kind of artificial intelligence. Its job was to mix and match the building blocks of standard quantum experiments and find solutions to new problems. And it did find many interesting ones. But there was one that made no sense. “The first thing I thought...

The Populist Movement is talking over the GOP one committeeman position at a time, and that is good news to Dan Schultz, who has made it his life’s mission to spread a call to action to others, that if they want to save the Republic and elect more people like Donald J. Trump to represent them, they need to join the GOP and become a precinct leader. Now he has proof that he is on the right track. “One of my political maxims: When RINOs get outnumbered by conservatives on any given Party committee, they usually quit. And it just...

What if just two states set a time and place for delegates to discuss amendments to our Constitution? Several states have submitted applications to congress that call for limiting the size and scope of government. Since they have publicly expressed similar concerns over the trajectory of our freedoms, why not? Why should they not convene? Skeptics might point out the states do not have this expressed power in the Constitution. They might further say the states cannot convene unless and until congress calls all the states to convention. Well, that contradicts the retained power concept of our Constitution: that which...

A charity that is campaigning to stop families having more than two children to save the environment has given Meghan Markle and Prince Harry an award that praises their 'enlightened decision'. Population Matters says its campaign to limit families is designed to achieve a 'sustainable population', despite their agenda's similarities to Communist China's notorious one child policy. Beijing now 'allows' its citizens to have three children after decades of limiting them to one child per family, which led to unknown numbers of 'unauthorised' children being abandoned or given away for adoption. The Duke of Duchess of Sussex were praised by...

Mr. Jekielek: You’ve called the mass vaccination of COVID-19 the biggest gain-of-function experiment ever. What does that mean?Dr. Weinstein: Well, what we are doing is unusual. We are deploying a novel technology that contains the code for a very narrow antigen signal, and we are deploying it into an active pandemic. And because the vaccines are not perfectly effective at preventing breakthrough cases, they are effectively exerting a very strong kind of selection on the virus. And there’s every reason to worry that this selection will drive the evolution of escape mutants. That is to say selection in favor of mutations...

Excerpt: In 2018—amid an otherwise turbulent market and operating at over a quarter-million dollar annual loss—Moderna, based in Cambridge, MA, pulled off one of the biggest IPOs of the year. Fast forward to Q1 of 2021, the biotech company generated $1.73 billion in COVID-19 vaccine-related revenue and achieved profitability for the first time. Their annual forecast hits a staggering $19.2 billion thanks to the convergence of the pandemic and government subsidy. Moderna CEO...

Does Francis Want to Strengthen the Society of Saint Pius X?If Francis were to restrict the Roman Mass, this would be an “abuse of power,” Bishop Schneider told @CatholicHack in a July 9 video interview.Forcing priests to preside the New Rite would be for Schneider a "violation of spirituality." He doesn’t believe Benedict XVI's claim that the Roman Mass [which is of apostolic origin] and the 1970 New Rite are “two forms” of the same rite [otherwise the New Rite would not have been called "new"]. Schneider calls them “two different rites" because there are "big differences."He explains that concelebration...

The delta variant is driving up coronavirus cases in California, landing the Bay Area on a federal “hot spot” watch list and spurring renewed urgency to get shots into the arms of people who haven’t been vaccinated, even in areas where immunization rates are already high. In San Francisco, public health officials are now requiring all workers at hospitals, nursing homes, jails and shelters to be vaccinated by Sept. 15. That’s a shift from an earlier order that mandated vaccination only after at least one vaccine was fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration, which now allows the shots...

“If people are feeling excluded because of what we call something, that’s not acceptable,” the president of the Entomological Society of America said. The Entomological Society of America are working to remove a pair of offensive insect monikers. The scientific organization announced Wednesday that it is dropping the common names gypsy moth and gypsy ant because the names include an offensive slur for the Roma or Romani people. For now, both insects will be referred to by their scientific names — Lymantria dispar and Aphaenogaster araneoides, respectively — though the ESA will be taking suggestions for new common names, they...

Much of the mainstream media love to highlight the difficulty people have voting in order to use that to support what they call less restrictive voting laws. One such example was in 2020 when CNN hyped the six hours a man named Hervis Rogers waited in line to vote on Super Tuesday in Texas. One problem, however. Mr. Rogers was voting illegally and was subsequently arrested for that just recently. Here is the CNN hype on March 4, 2020, echoed by other media outlets, about the trouble Mr. Rogers claimed he had voting illegally.

A Roman sandstone altarpiece featuring a naked horseman has been uncovered at the Vindolanda archaeological site in northern England. Vindolanda, a fort just below Hadrian’s Wall, was periodically occupied by Romans between 85 C.E. to 370 C.E. It is most famous for ink tablets found there. Written on thin pieces of wood, they offer a series of firsthand accounts by the Romans who once inhabited the fort. The site has provided a wealth of archaeological material, including structures like military barracks and residences, as well as artifacts such as Roman sandals, combs, textiles, swords, arrowheads, pottery, bronze figurines, and even...
