Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed a so-called controversial bathroom bill into law Friday, according to the state General Assembly website, prompting criticism from those who say the bill is discriminatory toward transgender individuals. The Tennessee Accommodations for All Children Act -- also known as House Bill 1233 -- requires public schools to make "reasonable accommodation" for a person who cannot or will not use a restroom or changing facility designated for their sex in a public school building or at a school-sponsored activity. The bill defines a person's sex as "a person's immutable biological sex as determined by anatomy and...

Chapter: The permissibility of selling animals for animals of the same kind and of different quality Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) reported: There came a slave and pledg- ed allegiance to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) on migration; he (the Holy Prophet) did not know that he was a slave. Then there came his master and demanded him back, whereupon Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: Sell him to me. The private jet Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) said she chartered for her secret trip to Florida in March is not approved to be chartered, the FAA told the Detroit Free Press Monday. The new problems arose when Whitmer’s chief of staff, Joanne Huls, attempted to explain away the flight Friday by saying a related 501(c)(4) so-called dark money group paid for the flight. It was determined the cost of the roundtrip was $27,521, and Whitmer personally reimbursed the fund just $855 for her seat. It was not clear how they arrived at either figure.

(Singapore)With reported Covid-19 cases rising recently, further tightening of safe management measures known as Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) kicked in on Sunday (May 16). It didn't take long for the first gut-wrenching photograph to reflect some of these restrictions – where dining-in is prohibited. That has, quite literally, left some taxi and private-hire drivers in an uncomfortable spot. On May 17, a photograph was shared on Facebook, highlighting a cabby sitting in the boot of a ComfortDelGro cab with the rear door wide open as he ate his packed lunch with a pair of disposable chopsticks. The caption read: “Please...

Arizona cities, towns, farmers and ranchers are preparing for the first-ever cuts to the state's allotment of Colorado River water. The cuts are the result of a drought that's lasted 26 years and will likely take effect in 2022. The so-called "Tier 1" water shortage will affect some water users more severely than others. "Central Arizona agriculture is going to feel the impact, probably first," said Chris Udall, who is the executive director of Agribusiness and Water Council of Arizona. Arizona stands to lose more than any other state in the Colorado River basin. Farmers and ranchers in Pinal County...

The largest undercover force the world has ever known is the one created by the Pentagon over the past decade. Some 60,000 people now belong to this secret army, many working under masked identities and in low profile, all part of a broad program called "signature reduction." The force, more than ten times the size of the clandestine elements of the CIA, carries out domestic and foreign assignments, both in military uniforms and under civilian cover, in real life and online, sometimes hiding in private businesses and consultancies, some of them household name companies.SNIPNewsweek's exclusive report on this secret world...

Jacque Trevini loves her vintage Porsche and says it gets lots of looks when she's driving down the road. "Well, it's a 1963 Porsche 356. And it's obviously red," she jokingly told 3 On Your Side. "People always wave or give a thumbs up when I’m driving. Little kids love it." But the car's Arizona registration has become a big problem. That's because when Jacque and her husband tried to re-register it recently, employees at the MVD office said, "No." And the reason, was jaw dropping. "We took the paperwork, and they looked at us and said that it doesn't...

Environmental groups and scientists with two universities want U.S. wildlife managers to consider reintroducing jaguars to the American Southwest. In a recently published paper, they say habitat destruction, highways and existing segments of the border wall mean that natural reestablishment of the large cats north of the U.S.-Mexico boundary would be unlikely over the next century without human intervention. Jaguars are currently found in 19 countries, but biologists have said the animals have lost more than half of their historic range from South and Central America into the southwestern United States largely due to hunting and habitat loss.

The Pentagon has confirmed that newly leaked footage, appearing to show an unidentified aerial object that was filmed as it entered the ocean, was obtained by US Navy personnel and is being examined by the Navy’s UAP Task Force. The video was obtained by personnel aboard the USS Omaha, a United States Navy Independence-class littoral combat ship, during a 2019 incident that occurred off the California coast.

This year’s ballot questions include two specific referendums that address how future state of emergencies will be handled in Pennsylvania. They come on the heels of Republican criticism of stay-at-home and business closure orders implemented by Gov. Tom Wolf during the coronavirus pandemic. One question asks voters to amend the state constitution to limit all state of emergencies issued by a governor to 21 days. A second referendum seeks to give the state’s General Assembly authority to extend or terminate a governor’s initial order.

May 17 (UPI) -- New York and California on Monday announced plans to alter their mask mandates to fall in line with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance regarding fully vaccinated people. Andrew Cuomo announced that on Wednesday, the state will alter its mandate to match the CDC guidance released last week, stating that people who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear masks outdoors or indoors except on transit, in healthcare facilities and other crowded areas. EXCLUSIVE DETAILS: The Virginia police lieutenant who was fired from the department in April after anonymously donating to a fundraiser to benefit Kyle Rittenhouse said his ousting came in only a matter of days, despite that the process typically takes months. On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) defended keeping the state’s indoor mask mandate in place for fully vaccinated people by stating that he’s not “necessarily” going against CDC guidance, rather “We’re just not ready yet.” Host Jake Tapper asked, “[W]hy did you decide to go against the CDC guidance and keep the indoor mask mandates in place for fully vaccinated people?” Murphy responded, “I wouldn’t say necessarily against it. We’re just not ready yet. We’ve been clobbered not once, but twice. We’ve lost over 26,000 people. We know the virus is more lethal...

The ATF has unleashed their proposed rule to change the "Definition of ‘Frame or Receiver’ and Identification of Firearms" and it’s as ugly as it sounds. If enacted, 2021R-05 would drastically change the Federal definition of a firearm receiver. For starters, this proposed rule would outlaw 3D printing, parts kits, 80% lowers, and other home-built firearms and would apply FFL rules to individuals. Under the proposed rules, any “externally visible housing or holding structure” will be considered a frame or receiver. Not only are the definitions ambiguous and ripe for arbitrary enforcement, but the proposed rules also destroy any clearly...

The Church Is Still the Mystical Body of Christ LOUISE MERRIE It is unfortunately common to hear Catholics criticizing the Catholic Church without realizing what the Church really is. The Church is not an institution like a nonprofit organization. The Church is the Mystical Body of Christ. This teaching on the Church was first revealed to St. Paul at the time of his conversion when Jesus asked St. Paul (then called Saul) why he was persecuting Him. At that time, St. Paul had been persecuting the Church. His encounter with Jesus led him to understand that the Church is Jesus’...
