This year’s ballot questions include two specific referendums that address how future state of emergencies will be handled in Pennsylvania. They come on the heels of Republican criticism of stay-at-home and business closure orders implemented by Gov. Tom Wolf during the coronavirus pandemic.
One question asks voters to amend the state constitution to limit all state of emergencies issued by a governor to 21 days. A second referendum seeks to give the state’s General Assembly authority to extend or terminate a governor’s initial order.
So-called "journalists!" FAIL!
To reign = to rule (< Latin "regnum" / "rex").
To rein = To restrain (e.g., a horse).
Regards,
This transcends political parties. The way the current Constitution is written the governor can assume essentially unlimited power during a state of emergency. He also is the one who has the power to declare such a state. Attempts to legislatively end the state of emergency can be vetoed by the governor.
It should scare the heck out of anyone regardless of political affiliation that a single person has the power to declare a state of emergency, extend that declaration indefinitely, and assume nearly unlimited power as a result. Dems: if any of you are reading this; our current governor is a Dem, but that will not always be the case. Vote with us to reign in the dictatorial power of a governor during a state of emergency.
My mistake, not the author’s. Thanks for pointing it out; I usually write much gooder than that :)
It’s really a distressing thing that while a governor actually needs to have some sort of emergency powers there are evil bastards out there who will use emergency powers for political purposes.
The most consequential race will be in Philly where the voters could, if they wanted, oust Soros stooge Larry Krasner as DA. Knowing Philly, don’t hold your breath.
PA’s last election was crooked.
Is there any prayer at all that this one WON’T be??
Vote —yes, yes,no,no on the constitutional amendments.
It is difficult to tell who is who since the candidates in most of the elections are running on both demonRAT and pubbie slates.
I've got my list and I printed two of them {one for Mrs. Alaska, I know, how sexist is that?}, but the primaries are so sparsely attended that it is sad.
This is where a single vote can make a difference {if they are real votes}.
That’s how I plan to mark them also. Bad news for my ballot is that a teacher is running unopposed for Inspector of Elections. I guess I’ll write somthing in.
I will be a “greeter” at the polls today. Vote YES to take away the governor’s emergency powers. My grandaughter is only in school 2 days a week.
Vote Kevin Brobson for Supreme Court.

“...but the primaries are so sparsely attended that it is sad. ....”
Not aimed at anyone in particular.Just a general statement.
People rant about who the end up having to vote for.
They should hold up a mirror. Most if not all our poltical
problems are self imposed by our general indifference.
