Update (24 March 2021): The Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) experiment is still insisting there's a flaw in our best model of particle physics. As explained below, previous results comparing the collider's data with what we might expect from the Standard Model threw up a curious discrepancy by around 3 standard deviations, but we needed a lot more information to be confident it truly reflected something new in physics. Newly released data have now pushed us closer to that confidence, putting the results at 3.1 sigma; there's still a 1 in 1,000 possibility that what we're seeing is the result...

Thousands of Catholics, including some leaders of prominent organizations, have signed a document that opposes COVID vaccines developed using fetal cells.Judie Brown, president of the American Life League, highlighted "a call to arms for Catholics and all men and women of good will."The issue is that while COVID vaccines approved for emergency use don't contain cells of aborted infants, some were developed using such cells. The document, "State of Conscience To Awaken Conscience," was produced by a professor, Catherine Pakaluk, to give Catholics "a voice in resisting the so-called consensus from Catholic leaders who have jumped on the COVID-19 vaccine train...”

U.K. band Madness have had several lives in their more than 40 years together, from ska superstars on their 1979 debut, One Step Beyond, to top 10 success with 1982's smash "Our House," to breaking up in 1986, reuniting in 1992 and continuing on the last two decades as a successful touring band. All of those eras are covered on the new U.S. only compilation, Our House: The Very Best Of Madness. The 12-song collection goes from the band's first hit, "The Prince" to 2019's "Bullingdon Boys," which the band's Graham "Suggs" McPherson calls a sort of protest song. I...

“‘Follow Me’: The Crown of Discipleship” (Mark 10:17-22) Today we conclude our series on the “Follow Me” sayings of Jesus in Gospel of Mark. Last week we took up “The Cross of Discipleship.” Today our theme is “The Crown of Discipleship.” And that’s a good order to go, because there is no crown without the cross, and there is no cross we endure that will not be far outweighed by the crown we will receive. And both the cross and the crown come as we follow Jesus. Last week we talked about the cross. Now we take up the crown....

Recently, I had a conversation with someone who endorses the conventional wisdom on COVID. The woman was friendly and intelligent. However, as readers of this column know, I have been at pains over the last year to expose, by way of at least a couple of dozen essays, the flagrant contradictions, misconceptions, unsubstantiated claims, and outright lies that constitute the Official Narrative. So, the friendly and intelligent women and I disagreed.Upon questioning whether I was among those who denied the very existence of COVID, I replied that while I wasn’t necessarily prepared to explicitly deny it, neither am I willing...

The Minnesota Department of Health has identified 89 "breakthrough" cases of COVID-19. Director of Infectious Diseases Kris Ehresmann said a "breakthrough" case is when a person gets COVID-19 after the two weeks following getting fully vaccinated. She said it's not surprising. 42 of 72 cases didn't have any symptoms at all, and so I think that's important to keep in mind," Ehresmann said. She says it means even if you're vaccinated, you could still get the disease, be asymptomatic and pass it along to someone else. MDH's goal is to get 80% of Minnesotans vaccinated.

Orson Welles played nearly all the roles. From director to writer to leading actor, Welles was an innovative creator whose keystone production, Citizen Kane, effectively changed the course of moviemaking in the '40s. But throughout much of his career, his established independence and his frequent squabbles with other producers on film projects meant he often found himself taking odd production jobs to keep afloat, where he also butted heads with others. In one such instance, hired for some narration work sometime around 1970 by the Swedish frozen food brand Findus, Welles can be heard on tape breaking from script and...
