Consider two events Monday. First, the conservative scholar Ryan Anderson announced that Amazon had purged his 2018 book, “When Harry Became Sally,” from its web store. The book criticizes recent progressive ideas about gender and especially the wisdom of sex-change procedures in children.... Also on Monday, two Congressional Democrats wrote a stern letter to CEO Jeff Bezos about Amazon’s role in politics. If you took seriously the party’s promises to defend “democratic norms,” you might expect Democratic politicians would express concern about the world’s third-largest company by market capitalization trying to suppress a book on a contested political issue. But...

Meidum Geese (via Romilio, J of Arch Sci: Reports, 2021) ============================================================ Artwork that had adorned the walls of an Egyptian prince's tomb for more than four millennia has been found to contain images of a bird completely unknown to modern science - until now. Although archaeologists have been eyeing the representations of local waterfowl since the fresco's discovery at the dig site of Meidum in 1871, it's taken an evolutionary biologist's clever taxonomic sleuthing to see the birds for what they really were. Last year Anthony Romilio from the University of Queensland in Australia took a closer look at the...

In yet another attempt to erase the Donald Trump years, the Joe Biden administration has decided to go back to an old version of the U.S. Citizenship test. The current test, which was implemented by the Trump administration, has been criticized by some for not giving enough notice before the new test had been implemented. A report from Newsmax stated that some of the complaints were that there was not enough time to study and preparation of training materials and resources. Another complaint was that for many of the questions, there was only one acceptable answer according to the study...

Happy Wednesday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. I want to hug Korea every time I eat kimchi. When looking at Joe Biden’s various appointments and nominations here in the first month of the Grandpa Gropes Traveling Sham Presidency Circus, one can get the feeling that former President Barack Obama is running a staffing agency these days. Or a recycling center. Team Biden-Harris has been stocking up on Obama administration retreads. Perhaps Ol’ Joe doesn’t remember most of these people and his empty head thinks they’re all fresh blood. While Merrick Garland wasn’t really a member of the Obama administration he...

A slew of former Obama officials, including Kerry, Obama’s Middle East advisor Robert Malley, and Obama-era Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, met with Zarif during the Trump years. Kerry, Malley, and Moniz led negotiations in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in which the U.S. provided sanctions relief and access to tens of billions of dollars in frozen bank accounts in exchange for Iran’s promises to limit nuclear enrichment. Trump pulled the U.S. out of the deal in 2018, citing the need for a tougher agreement that also addressed Iran’s support for terrorist groups and its destabilizing behavior...

This classic tuna salad recipe doesn’t try to fix what isn’t broken. It has all the essentials for turning canned tuna (preferably oil-packed and salted) into something truly compelling. Just-enough mayo, capers, and lemon for brightness, celery and onion for crunch, and mustard and (optional) hot sauce for a little extra flavor intrigue. Feel free to sub Greek yogurt for mayo, or pickle relish instead of capers. Ingredients 2 LARGE OR 4 SMALL SERVINGS ¼ small red onion, finely chopped 1 celery stalk, finely chopped 6 Tbsp. mayonnaise 2 Tbsp. coarsely chopped parsley or cilantro 2 Tbsp. drained capers, finely...

All decent people are peaceniks. This holds true always, but especially in a nuclear age, when one misstep, whether on purpose or not, can spell the deaths of not millions, but billions of people. It is only a maniacal misanthrope who would not fall under this rubric, but, then, he would hardly be counted as "decent." The U.S. government has just registered a successful foray in the direction of peace. For the very first time, a long-range ICBM was brought down not from a land-based anti-missile defense strike, but from one located on the John Finn, a Navy destroyer. An...

This set of sounds from the surface of Mars were recorded by the microphone on the side of NASA’s Perseverance Rover on Feb. 20, 2021. In the first set, sounds from the rover itself dominate. In the second set, the sound was filtered to make sounds from Mars more audible. You can hear a little wind in the second set. This is the first time a Mars rover has been equipped with a microphone.

Fellow American, Socialism has failed everywhere it has been attempted because it takes power away from the people and gives government control over every aspect of your life. This past year we have seen the left trying to sell these destructive ideas as “fashionable”. They support 70% tax rates, elimination of private health insurance, “Free College,” and end to cars and industries that run on non-renewable energy and trillions more in new spending As U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, I witnessed failed socialist regimes firsthand from places like Venezuela and Cuba. Americans rejected socialism on Election Day. Because they...

Wokesters are targeting old children's shows and adding preposterous disclaimers. If you want to catch Johnny Cash singing “Ghost Riders in the Sky” with a posse of puppets, you’d better act fast. The Man in Black could get away with uttering the word “Hell” on The Muppet Show. He will likely not however survive that Confederate flag hanging on the set. In what is but the latest to be hit by the destroyer of mirth that is “wokeness,” eighteen episodes of The Muppet Show – all five seasons of which are now on the Disney+ streaming service – have been...

Scientists said Wednesday they had discovered the oldest remains of a domestic dog in the Americas dating back more than 10,000 years, suggesting the animals accompanied the first waves of human settlers. Humans are thought to have migrated to North America from Siberia over what is today the Bering Strait at the end of the last Ice Age -- between 30,000 and 11,000 years ago. A new study led by the University at Buffalo analysed the mitochondrial DNA of a bone fragment found in Southeast Alaska. The team initially thought the fragment belonged to a bear. But closer examination revealed...

Sometimes, Tucker Carlson shows a real touch of genius. That was the case with his suggestion for true societal change in America. It’s time, he said, for America’s elite educational institutions (the Ivy Leagues and other high-ranking colleges and universities) to stop promoting generational affluence. They need to jettison their rich student body and, in the future, admit only disadvantaged students. Tucker opened his proposal by noting that we’re currently experiencing a non-traditional revolution in which the ruling class is attacking and destroying the working and middle classes. Thus, while the French had “liberty, fraternity, equality,” the new revolution, the...

At least half the country is bewildered by the incapacity of the Democrat party to get beyond Donald Trump. We fondly remember bygone times when general elections were simply won or lost on Election Day, where the victors trotted off to church to give thanks and light a few candles, and a fair and balanced debate across the aisle settled on the best policies for the nation. Instead, we are treated to a second wasteful impeachment engineered to politically neuter an already cashiered president, a national capital dressed up as an armed camp, and a class system drawn along ideological...

A woman in her early 30s, who gave birth to a son a month ago and has Covid-19, should be allowed to die against her family's wishes, a judge has decided. Mr Justice Hayden ruled that doctors can lawfully stop providing life-support treatment to the woman, who has an underlying health condition and is in an induced coma. A specialist told him that everything had been tried and the woman's chances of recovery were 'zero'. The judge considered the case at an urgent virtual hearing in the Court of Protection, where issues relating to people who lack the mental capacity...

Throughout the cold blast of last week, much news was made about the fact that three of the key members of the board of the Electric (non) Reliability Council of Texas weren’t even from Texas. In fact, it turned out the chairman lives in Michigan, the vice-chair also lives out of state, along with one other member of the 15-member board. Well, guess what? Those news reports actually understated the out-of-state issue with this board. Turns out that there were no fewer than five non-Texans running Texas’s power grid. Happily, each and every one one of them resigned yesterday, along...

I was blessed to have a half-hour phone chat with my Seattle City Councilman last week and I started by asking him about defunding the police. He responded with a long monologue about police use of excessive force, in particular pepper spray and tear gas, going back to the 1990 WTO riots when he was 13. I interjected at some point that “government is force.” And government officials like him are ultimately backed up by men with guns. He didn’t take it too well. Later on in our chat he emitted the word “hate.” Clearly, he was opposed to it....

The Most Inevitable Story of the Week, from Politico. – Sigh. This story is so predictable that it’s a wonder it took this long for the Democrat toady media to get it out. Texas Republicans are taking a drubbing in the wake of last week’s winter weather disaster, because hey, they’ve been in charge of all aspects of Texas government for 27 years now. So, who else are Texans going to blame for the massive, epic failure of ERCOT and other Texas officials to ensure the heat and lights stay on when it’s 5 degrees outside? Thus, the first thought...
