Half a million dead far exceeds the annual death due to flu. Annual deaths due to flu in the USA over the past 5 years is 61,000.

ok, so let me ask you this; are you of the opinion that 515k people have died from a covid complication that would otherwise not have died within a relatively short period of time anyway...?
in other words, do you think 514k healthy, productive individuals have succumbed to covid...? because that is the only situation that would justify the crazed governmental reaction that we have seen over the past year...

They are classifying all deaths as covid now.
There was even a statistical study released and then retracted by Johns Hopkins that showed the statistics of known-killers like cancer and heart disease declining in the face of this scam. These numbers are “known” in that they know how many deaths to expect based on population numbers for each of these illnesses\diseases on a yearly basis. As population increases these numbers correlate directly. The study spanned the previous 6 years and included 2020.
Had they been truthful with cause of death from the beginning they would have some sort of foundation for saying these numbers are valid. This is pretty much any source you go to, from your wife to your vet to media organizations- if you lie, if you break trust, then how can you ever be trusted again?
The US Standard Certificate of Death has 4 lines in Section 32 Part I for the cause of death. These lines are used for the major events in the chain of morbid events leading directly to death. The last line filled out is the underlying cause of death and the top line is the immediate cause of death.
The underlying cause of death is the disease or injury which initiates the chain of events leading directly to death. The immediate cause of death is the final condition or cause (i.e. the straw that broke the camel's back). Any other contributing factors, like pre-existing conditions, complicating survival are listed in Section 32 Part II.
For your example, a simplified chain of events could look like hypoxemia (immediate cause of death) due to pneumonia due to Influenza (underlying cause of death). In that case, Influenza is the underlying cause of death and this is counted in the statistics as a flu death (which we average about 36,000 of each year in the US). Listing Influenza as the UCoD requires that the attending physician be able to positively link the pneumonia to Influenza. That isn't always possible. Older folks sometimes develop pneumonia without a clear direct cause. In that case, you might see hypoxemia (immediate cause) due to pneumonia (underlying cause). If Influenza is detected, but not thought to have caused the pneumonia, it could be listed in Part II. For death statistics in that example, this would be a pneumonia death. There are 10s of thousands of pneumonia deaths each year (43,881 in 2019).
