I’m in southwestern rural Virginia and voted early on Friday. Took about fifty minutes at 9 am. About fifty people in line at any given time and the line never shortened. My husband and I were 7253 and 7254 and all early voting in my county was held at the county offices in one area. Now the voting has moved into individual precincts. By 8 am, one of my friends in an even more rural precinct had voted and was number 1002. So, this is going to be a blowout in percentage of eligible voters. Just saw a post from...

The United States of America would turn into a global “laughing stock” if 77-year-old Joe Biden wins the presidential election, said the leader of the Brexit movement Nigel Farage. Ahead of the election, Mr Farage revealed that he placed a £10,000 bet on President Trump to be victorious and secure a second term, as he claimed Joe Biden is “clearly unfit for office”. On Britain’s Daily Telegraph ‘The Trump Card’ podcast, Farage said that Biden “can barely string a sentence together, he forgets where he is, he forgets the name of his wife… I mean he doesn’t know where he...

New Zealand has voted to introduce an extreme assisted suicide law in a binding public referendum. Preliminary results, announced by the country’s electoral commission today, show 65.2% of voters supported the End of Life Choice Act coming into force as a new law. An estimated 480,000 special votes still need to be counted, but the margin between the support and opposition is so wide that the referendum is likely to succeed. The official results of the euthanasia vote will be published November 6, with the new law coming into effect one year later. The introduction of the law follows New...

Systemic racism has kept the U.S. from reaching its full economic potential, according to a growing body of research. A recent Citigroup study estimated that financial, educational and other inequities between Black and White Americans cost the U.S. a staggering $16 trillion. CBS MoneyWatch spoke with Dana Peterson - formerly global economist at Citigroup, now chief economist for The Conference Board and the lead researcher behind the study - about its findings. This interview has been edited for length and clarity. Q. Your team put the economic cost of racism in the U.S. at $16 trillion - that's a startling...

A tiny 3D printed boat about a third the thickness of a human hair has been created to follow bacteria known as microswimmers to better understand how they work. Researchers from Leiden University produced the tiny boat - named Benchy the tugboat - using a new technique that will allow it to swim behind tiny particles. From prow to stern, this little boat measures 30 micrometers or about 0.001 inches and required an electron microscope to capture an image of the completed object. The team say future 3D printed 'microswimmers' made using their technique could be designed to deliver targeted...

Joe Biden has said he wants to be president of ALL the states and that he doesn't see red states and blue states. But his economic policies are a de facto war against the high-growth red states of the South and the Sunbelt. We are talking about states such as Texas, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Arizona. The central idea behind the Biden plan is to impose national policies on red states that have already crippled the blue states in America -- particularly states such as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Instead of leveling the playing field...

HILLSDALE, Michigan -- Sometimes, lessons we are trying desperately to unravel about where we are as a country and as a culture are right in front of us. But we've been so distracted by all of the convenience and chaos technology has provided our lives that we've missed what we've always known, not just about where we are going but who we are in that journey. One of the last assignments I gave my journalism students at Hillsdale College last week was to revisit the children's book "Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel." It's a book my grandmother read my...

Melanie Trump tore into Joe Biden in a speech at her final solo rally in North Carolina, calling the former VP a career politician who apologizes for American greatness, and is a proponent of the radical left's agenda. 'When rioters and looters were burning our cities and wrecking small businesses that belong to hard working families and bring jobs to our communities, where were the Democrats?' she asked the crowd. 'Why should we trust Joe Biden when he suggests he can do a better job? All you have to do is look back on his 47 years in political life...

If news organizations declare Joe Biden the mathematical president-elect, he plans to address the nation as its new leader, even if President Trump continues to fight in court, advisers tell Axios. Why it matters: Biden advisers learned the lesson of 2000, when Al Gore hung back while George W. Bush declared victory in that contested election, putting the Democrat on the defensive while Bush acted like the winner. So if Biden is declared the winner, he'll begin forming his government and looking presidential — and won't yield to doubts Trump might try to sow. Biden's schedule for Tuesday includes a...

AS the procession was passing down Broadway it was greeted with cheers from a number of Republicans who had stationed themselves in front of the Headquarters of the Young Men's Republican Union, Stuyvesant Institute. The meeting-room of a Bell and Everett Club is on the opposite side of the street, and some of the members took umbrage at the demonstrations of applause and applied approbrious epithets to the Republicans. Finally, several of the Fusion Party made a rush toward where the Republicans were standing, and calling them "negro stealers." "sons of b____s," &c., seemed bent on inciting a riot. Officer...
