Afghanistan, beset by a poor healthcare system, malnutrition, war and other vulnerabilities, likely is facing a “health disaster” from the coronavirus, a watchdog report to the U.S. Congress warns. The report released late on Thursday by Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) John Sopko could heighten concerns among U.S. officials and lawmakers that the pandemic threatens to derail stalled U.S.-led peace efforts. The spread of COVID-19 - the illness caused by the novel coronavirus - already has significantly impacted Afghanistan, the report said, from complicating the peace initiative to forcing border crossing closures that have disrupted commercial and humanitarian...

A former NYPD officer is suing the department and male officer who she alleges repeatedly harangued her with lewd remarks — and asked her if she would perform a sex act with someone sitting on a toilet. Ex-NYPD officer Emily Brucato charges in a lawsuit filed on Sunday in Brooklyn federal court that over several months in 2017, then-Lt. Jonathan Blatt subjected her to a barrage of filthy comments — including asking her to have a “threesome,” saying “it’s OK my wife gave me the go ahead.” “Would you ever give a ‘Blumpkin’?” Blatt allegedly asked Brucato on one occasion,...

Co-host Greg Gutfeld stated that Biden may have slipped up. "Look, Biden was doing great in that interview until he confessed," Gutfeld said. "First he had the total denial. I think that was pretty good. The denial was pretty strong. And then he says as a complaint. 'You know, I don't know why all of a sudden 27 years 'this' gets raised. "What is 'this?' What is 'this'? That's interesting," Gutfeld added.

As Florida prepares to ease a month-long shutdown, Gov. Ron DeSantis delivered a scathing rebuttal of apocalyptic predictions for his state that were breathlessly hyped by the news media and proven wrong during the coronavirus crisis. The governor showed slides of media stories warning that Florida would quickly run out of hospital beds while predicting the state would be the “next New York” or even a disastrous “uber Italy.” Instead, the state with one of the most vulnerable populations due to age is faring well among the big states that were hit and is nowhere close to New York’s unfortunate...

U.S. incomes fell in March but not as much as spending, pushing the savings rate to its highest level in 39 years, the government said Thursday. Income fell 2% in March, with an identical decline in disposable income. At the same time, spending slumped a record 7.5% last month. The spending data was not a surprise as it was contained in the first quarter GDP report released Wednesday, which showed consumer spending contracted at a 7.6% annual rate in the first quarter. Inflation pressures eased in March. The closely watched PCE price gauge fell 0.3% in the month led by...

Pictures of SAS soldiers abseiling down the walls of the Iranian Embassy moments before they rescued hostages inside have become synonymous with the regiment. But ahead of Tuesday’s 40th anniversary of the assault, which made the elite regiment a household name, rarely seen images of a different part of the daring mission have emerged – and nor was that without its own intense drama. Our pictures show the 19 freed hostages being funnelled through the smoke out of the embassy in central London and into the safety of a holding area in the garden of the building next door.

ANALYSIS/OPINION: The new coronavirus is real. The response to the coronavirus is hyped. And in time, this hype will be revealed as politically hoaxed. In fact, COVID-19 will go down as one of the political world’s biggest, most shamefully overblown, overhyped, overly and irrationally inflated and outright deceptively flawed responses to a health matter in American history, one that was carried largely on the lips of medical professionals who have no business running a national economy or government. The facts are this: COVID-19 is a real disease that sickens some, proves fatal to others, mostly the elderly — and does...

The dialogue begins with the Chinese warrior who stated they had discovered a dangerous new virus, to...

Global energy demand could slump by 6% in 2020 due to the restrictions placed on homes and industry in what would be the largest contraction in absolute terms on record, according to Paris-based IEA, which advises industrialised nations on energy.
