Some Scientists fear that it may prove impossible to produce a working coronavirus vaccine and believe the world may have to simply learn to adapt to the permanent threat of COVID-19. The UK's Chief Medical Officer, Christopher Whitty, told a Parliamentary committee on Friday that there was "concerning" evidence suggesting that it may not be possible to stimulate immunity to the virus. "The first question we do not know is 'do you get natural immunity to this disease if you have had it, for a prolonged period of time?'" Whitty said. "Now if we don't then it doesn't make a...

The European Union toned down part of a report about Chinese state-backed disinformation because it feared Beijing would retaliate by withholding medical supplies, diplomatic sources have said. The initial version of the report, seen by the South China Morning Post, described China as running a “global disinformation campaign” to deflect blame for the coronavirus outbreak using “both overt and covert tactics”. But the Post has learnt that this section was removed after Beijing intervened and warned EU diplomats based in China there would be unspecified repercussions. EU diplomats were worried that this would “strain” relations and make it “more difficult...

China has donated another US$30 million to the WHO after US President Donald Trump announced his intention to suspend funding to the global health body, accusing it of siding with Beijing on the coronavirus outbreak. It is the second time China – where the first cases of the virus were reported late last year – has provided additional funding to the World Health Organisation during the pandemic, after it announced a US$20 million donation in early March. Beijing has pledged to step up support for the Geneva-based organisation after repeated criticism of its response to the crisis, including from Trump,...

NEW YORK - Concerts, sporting events and other large-scale public gatherings won’t be safe to return to until late 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, one health expert recently predicted. Zeke Emanuel, a bioethicist and director of the Healthcare Transformation Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, participated in a panel interview with New York Times Magazine on reopening the economy. “Restarting the economy has to be done in stages, and it does have to start with more physical distancing at a work site that allows people who are at lower risk to come back,” Emanuel said, adding that certain...

ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW.... I LEARNED FROM NOAH'S ARK 1. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark. 2. Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, someone might ask you to do something REALLY big. 3. Don't listen to critics -- do what has to be done. 4. Build on high ground. 5. For safety's sake, travel in pairs. 6. Two heads are better than one. 7. Speed isn't always an advantage. The cheetahs were on board, but so were the snails. 8. If you can't fight or flee -- float! 9....

Michigan state Rep. Karen Whitsett, a Democrat, said Saturday she won’t be silenced as her own party is planning to censure her after she praised President Trump for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Ms. Whitsett praised the president at the White House after she took chloroquine to recover from COVID-19, a drug the president has touted. In a subsequent study, however, the drug has since been determined unsuccessful in treating coronavirus patients, despite initial anecdotal success stories. Ms. Whitsett told Fox News she believes her own party is censuring her because of Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who has faced...

The Chicago Bears traded up for Mitchell Trubisky just a few years ago, but the franchise has since realized he may not be the long-term answer. That became crystal clear once Chicago traded for Nick Foles this offseason. Now comes further proof, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the belief around the league is the Bears won’t pick up Trubisky’s fifth-year option. Schefter notes there has been no official word from the Bears and that Chicago has until May 4 to make the decision. If the Bears do decide to pick up the fifth-year option on Trubisky, it would cost over...

In an Amicus Brief submitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, Miller versus Becerra, the Giffords Law Center and associated attorneys make the following argument. Such combat-style features distinguish military rifles and their semi-automatic counterparts from standard sporting rifles, and are not “merely cosmetic”—they “serve specific, combat-functional ends.” H. Rep. No. 103-489, at 18. The Regulated Assault Rifles include features that enhance ammunition capacity, concealability, stability, and control, making it easier for shooters to fire accurately without sacrificing rate of fire. The “net effect of these military combat features is a capability for lethality—more...
