It was a bright, cold day in Oxford and everywhere I looked, rainbow flags flapped and fluttered in the sharp wind. They flew from the ancient colleges along the High Street. They flew from the Town Hall. And what they said to me was ‘Your side has lost. There is nothing you can do about it.’ As I write this, I know that an apprentice Thought Police officer will certainly copy and store my words, to use them against me at some point in the future. The mere act of suggesting that there is anything oppressive about these banners will...

~The FReeper Canteen Presents~Happy St. Patrick's Day!March 17 marks the fifth-century death of the patron saint, Saint Patrick and for over a thousand years, has been celebrated as a religious feast day. According to history, St. Patrick was a missionary to Ireland and he became an adored figure for Irish Catholics as the person to bring Christianity to the Emerald Isle. In times gone by, canonizations were carried out on a regional level, meaning that Patrick has never officially been canonized by a Pope although he is included on the list of Saints. The feast day was...

When President Trump restricted travel to and from China nearly two months ago, the outcry from the left was deafening. Everyone from Democrats to the World Health Organization to mainstream media panned the move as racist and xenophobic. Now, information stemming from genome sequencing of those infected indicate the President’s unpopular move was not only correct, but may have happened too late. This is fascinating, it looks like 90% of the COVID transmission in Seattle is from a single introduction in late Jan from China. The NY intro is from Iran and San Diego intro from Europe. https://t.co/ZBbzrtgU5u — PoliMath...

“Hong Kong is definitely coming back to life” following a weeks-long coronavirus lockdown, says Adam Najberg, an American executive who’s been living in the territory for over a decade. “It’s clearly not bustling, and restaurants aren’t brimming with activity, but people are going out again, shopping again, walking on the streets.” “You have to wait a bit for taxis, people are back on the subway and buses. Traffic is back, [the] subway is getting more crowded again, [and there’s] more foot traffic, too.” Najberg spoke with MarketWatch via Facebook Messenger to describe his recent experiences in Hong Kong, and how...

At least eight New York Times authors shared a deceptively edited quote Monday from President Donald Trump’s recent call with state governors, creating the false impression that the president is denying federal support for ventilators that are needed in hospitals treating coronavirus patients. In his message, the president recommended that states procure respirators and ventilators because it would be faster — but added that the federal government “will be backing you.” The Times journalists omitted the bulk of the president’s statement as they shared the story on social media. The misleading, partial quote was also boosted by a CNN correspondent...

James S. Brady Press Briefing Room 5:15 P.M. EDT THE PRESIDENT: Beautiful day outside. And I think we have some great things to talk about. I’ll start by discussing the Federal Reserve. As you know, it just happened minutes ago, but, to me, it makes me very happy. And I want to congratulate the Federal Reserve. For starters, they’ve lowered the Fed rate from what it was, which was 1 to 1.25. And it’s been lowered down to zero, to 0.25 or .25. So it’s 0 to .25. That’s a big difference. It’s quite a bit. It’s about a point....

Indeed, to an incurious media, a Russian catering company posting Facebook memes might sound like a good justification for a vast Russian election interference prosecution; however, when Concord & the accused Russians show up in court and request to see the evidence against them, well, the prosecutors might just have a problem. It’s that problem that dogged the Mueller prosecution since 2018. Today, predictably and finally, the DOJ dropped the nonsense case..

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio judge rejected a request late Monday to postpone the state's primary amid concerns about the coronavirus outbreak, but it was not clear if that would be the final word though there were just hours to go before polls were scheduled to open. Judge Richard Frye ruled against an effort backed by Gov. Mike DeWine and Secretary of State Frank LaRose, who had hoped to push in-person voting back to June 2 to avoid putting voters in the untenable position of choosing between their health and exercising their right to vote. But Frye said that...

Some spring breakers in Florida didn’t get the social distancing memo. Hundreds of people packed Clearwater Beach Thursday as President Trump urged Americans to avoid gatherings of 10 people during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Local reporter Sarah Hollenbeck, of WFTS-TV, captured the sunny scene with tight clusters of college-aged beach-goers scattered across the sand. “BUSY BEACH! This is what @MyClearwater Beach looks like right now as spring break crowds flock to the sand,” Hollenbeck tweeted.

Representative Rashida Tlaib unleashed a profanity-laced attack on the National Day of Prayer. The President rightly declared a National Day of Prayer yesterday in the face of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Yet Rep. Tlaib – who just promoted erasing Israel from the map and replacing it with “Palestine” – shockingly responded to a national call to prayer over the Coronavirus by retweeting “[Expletive] a National Day of Prayer.” This isn’t just insensitive, it’s a shocking perversion damaging the very credibility of our government institutions in a time of national crisis. At the ACLJ, we’re not just encouraging prayer, we’re defending...

The aftermath of the plague created a series of religious, social, and economic upheavals, which had profound effects on the course of European history. It took 150 years for Europe’s population to recover, and the effects of the plague irrevocably changed the social structure, resulting in widespread persecution of minorities such as Jews, foreigners, beggars, and lepers. The uncertainty of daily survival has been seen as creating a general mood of morbidity, influencing people to “live for the moment.” Because 14th-century healers were at a loss to explain the cause of the plague, Europeans turned to astrological forces, earthquakes, and...

The State of Minnesota's Public Defender's Office has been pushing for the release of jail inmates throughout the State, in order to protect them from the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Chief Public Defender Bill Ward sent an email to all staffers, urging them to get on board and demand that their clients be released. Some of the clients have not yet been convicted. He also said that the jails are a "petri dish" of infections. This looks to only impact the local and county jails, no mention of releasing inmates early from within the prison system. This plea has...
