Hong Kong is definitely coming back to life following a weeks-long coronavirus lockdown, says Adam Najberg, an American executive whos been living in the territory for over a decade. Its clearly not bustling, and restaurants arent brimming with activity, but people are going out again, shopping again, walking on the streets.
You have to wait a bit for taxis, people are back on the subway and buses. Traffic is back, [the] subway is getting more crowded again, [and theres] more foot traffic, too.
Najberg spoke with MarketWatch via Facebook Messenger to describe his recent experiences in Hong Kong, and how the Chinese territory has dealt with the coronavirus outbreak.
It was tense six weeks ago, he said. Uncertainty about how bad it might be was hanging over folks, especially those remembering SARS. Now, honestly, my two biggest personal concerns are about my kids in the U.S. and whether there is Diet Coke in the vending machine. The U.S. doesnt get this, and the years of polarization and complacency and comfort lull people into not taking this seriously enough.
Hong Kong is getting through this because the territory went to an emergency lockdown to stem the growing COVID-10 outbreak for three weeks in January and February, Najberg said. While the coronavirus has not been eradicated in Hong Kong, the territory has managed to severely slow the spread of the illness. According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker, Hong Kong has had a total of 155 confirmed cases, out of a population of 7.4 million.
Najberg said had to work from home for a few weeks. Everyone masked up, work from home was implemented, [and] many companies have alternating shifts of staffers at the office, even though were back now, he said.

The large cities, like NY, are in for a bumpy ride.
Excellent!
Great news! They went through 3 weeks of lockdown. We just started. Hopefully, we will get through this in shorter time.
It looks dark right now, but it’s not forever.
I wish everyone in LA and SF would get a fever, aches and chills. Just experience a bit of discomfort.
But the lockdown violates my constitutional rights to spread disease!
However, round 2 may be coming soon. Mostly due to everyone flying back from Europe and other places.
Yes, HKers will have to be quarantined but people may get sick later. Need to watch and stay vigilant.
So they knocked it down...what prevents another startup?
Well, it’s still early for this thread, but maybe people are starting to believe what Tim Cook said during a February 29 interview, ‘it’s over, and I’m re-opening my Apple manufacturing plants in China’.
A lot of people po-pooed that statement.
I would hope everyone is still going to be cautious.
Wash hands, don’t touch your face, stay away from people if you’re sick. I would hope people would always do this even if there isn’t a highly contagious disease going around.
We’ll have to watch them carefully and see what happens to them. I’m also thinking that at the first sign of an increase in people going back to the hospitals, they will do the same thing. No waiting a second time so that they can catch it earlier than before.
It’s already started. Morons packed like Sardines in Stanley Market watching talentless buskers.

Top researchers are working on a shot.Let’s hope they succeed...sooner rather than later.
HK Hit By 'Second Wave' Of Virus Infections
The Centre for Health Protection on Monday said Hong Kong was seeing a second wave of Covid-19 infections as almost all the newly recorded cases were people who are believed to have been infected while they were outside the city.
All but one of the nine new cases which have been confirmed or preliminarily tested positive for the coronavirus, are "imported" cases, the officials said.
Hey....that’s pretty mean! Lots of Freepers here, too!
Here in San Francisco, where civil libertarians have prevented the removal of the homeless/drug addicts from our streets, there is ZERO complaint when the police state was instituted here today. No one can force a homeless person into care, but Sunday everyone over 65 was ordered to stay home. Today they have extended that to EVERYONE....except possibly the homeless. Not a peep from the radical liberals who run this city.
It won’t last long. It will collapse as soon as the partial border shutdown with China is lifted and hordes of Chicoms rush in and ruin the city again.
It's probably not preventable, not with a bug this insanely contagious.
I think it's turning out that most people, in the range of 80%, have little or no reaction to exposure other than developing antibodies. The other 20% will get sick enough to notice, and from that group a small fraction will become sick enough to need hospitalization. So the crucial thing is for everyone who's going to get sick enough to need a hospital bed and a respirator, to not all do it at the same time because then there will be excess deaths simply due to lack of resources.
All these measures described in the article will certainly slow the rate of new exposure and that is desirable, but in this case they will not stop this virus completely, IMHO. It is going to burn through the population and this thing will not be "over" until essentially everyone has been exposed and gone through whatever it is they will go through. The extent of our ability is to hopefully keep the rate of new exposure low enough to avoid creating a resource crisis.
Why do people parrot this, and leave out the most important time to wash your hands, which is just before handling food, while touching your face it not the problem, but touching eyes, nostrils and mouth.
