A little-noticed letter from special counsel Robert Mueller's office divulges Obama DOJ concerns about FBI treatment of ex-Trump national security adviser. Former acting Attorney General Sally Yates and other senior Obama-era Justice Department officials told the Russia special prosecutor in private interviews they had concerns about the FBI’s conduct in investigating former Trump National Security Adviser Mike Flynn, according to memos that paint a dark portrait of the bureau’s behavior. The documents, which include a letter from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team transmitting exculpatory evidence to Flynn’s defense lawyers in 2018, offer the most detailed montage to date about why...

Today my wife and I went to the local H.E.B. grocery store to purchase some things we needed. The shelves in the store were largely empty. There was a young couple shopping who were complaining about the empty shelves. Each of them was wearing a Bernie Sanders for President tee shirt. I walked up to them and said, "Are you feeling the Bern?" They stared blankly. I then said, "Welcome to the Havana H.E.B." The continued to stare blankly at me so I continued, "This is what grocery store look like under socialist and communist regimes."

Tim Morrison is a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and former senior director for counterproliferation and biodefense on the National Security Council. President Trump gets his share of criticism — some warranted, much not. But recently the president’s critics have chosen curious ground to question his response to the coronavirus outbreak since it began spreading from Wuhan, China, in December. It has been alleged by multiple officials of the Obama administration, including in The Post, that the president and his then-national security adviser, John Bolton, “dissolved the office” at the White House in charge of pandemic preparedness. Because I...

Israel illuminated the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem with the colors of the Italian flag Sunday evening in a show of solidarity with the European nation, which just announced that another 370 had died in the last 24 hours from the coronavirus. “Italy! Jerusalem is with you!” Jerusalem mayor Moshe Leon said in a statement. Leon wished a speedy recovery to all Italians sick with the virus. After China, Italy is the country that has been hit the hardest by the coronavirus outbreak.

U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain issued a sternly worded statement Monday contending that Friday’s fatal shooting of Cpl. James O’Connor IV in Frankford “was the direct result of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner’s pro-violent-defendant policies.” The lengthy statement was the latest salvo in a feud between the region’s two top prosecutors, and the most recent example of McSwain’s criticizing Krasner’s policies after a high-profile crime.

A woman has been slammed on social media for an alleged “coronavirus challenge” video that has since gone viral. Ava Louise, a twice-Dr. Phil guest and accused “clout-chaser” on social media, has recently gone viral for a bizarre stunt that is getting widely criticized during the global coronavirus pandemic, which is responsible for 68 deaths and at least 3,700 positive cases in the U.S. alone. In the video, which was originally shared to TikTok, the 22-year-old aspiring influencer from Miami is seen licking a toilet seat, allegedly while in a plane bathroom.

David Stone snagged a cardboard box of .223-caliber ammunition from the shelf and slid it across the glass countertop, offering his go-to sales pitch: “Welcome to the biggest selection of ammunition in all of Oklahoma.” “I’m not sure I can keep on saying that,” Stone said, explaining that the supply of goods at Dong’s Guns, Ammo and Reloading has been seriously depleted over the last few days. Gun sales are surging in many U.S. states, especially in those hit hardest by the coronavirus — California, New York and Washington. But there’s also been an uptick in less-affected areas, with some...

Tensions over the federal government’s response to the coronavirus spilled onto social media Monday as President Trump and Gov. Andrew Cuomo exchanged a series of searing tweets over New York’s request for assistance. “Just had a very good tele-conference with Nation’s Governors. Went very well. Cuomo of New York has to ‘do more’, ” Trump tweeted. Cuomo quickly fired back: “Happy to do your job, too. Just give me control of the Army Corps of Engineers and I’ll take it from there.”

Summary The global impact of COVID-19 has been profound, and the public health threat it represents is the most serious seen in a respiratory virus since the 1918 H1N1 influenza pandemic. Here we present the results of epidemiological modelling which has informed policymaking in the UK and other countries in recent weeks. In the absence of a COVID-19 vaccine, we assess the potential role of a number of public health measures – so-called non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) – aimed at reducing contact rates in the population and thereby reducing transmission of the virus. In the results presented here, we apply a...

For most of last week, as Mayor Bill de Blasio continued to urge New Yorkers to mostly go about their daily lives — sending their children to school, frequenting the city’s businesses — some of his top aides were furiously trying to change the mayor’s approach to the coronavirus outbreak. There had been arguments and shouting matches between the mayor and some of his advisers; some top health officials had even threatened to resign if he refused to accept the need to close schools and businesses, according to several people familiar with the internal discussions. Teachers were threatening not to...

The Senate cleared a nearly four-month extension of intelligence programs that expired on Sunday as part of a deal that will also allow for votes on broader surveillance reforms. The Senate had been expected to hold an initial procedural vote Monday on the House-passed bill that paired extension of the three expired USA Freedom Act provisions with some changes to the court established by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Instead, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) came to the floor minutes before the scheduled vote and passed a 77-day extension of the three USA Freedom Act provisions. The extension...

It was disgusting to see the way Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders politicized the coronavirus pandemic during their debate Sunday night. I expected as much, to be honest. A public health crisis is no time for partisanship. Sadly, for the left, they saw the coronavirus pandemic was just another opportunity for them to take down Trump. From the Russian collusion hoax to the bogus impeachment, they’ve tried relentlessly to find something to not just damage him, but to end his presidency. The left’s politicization of the coronavirus pandemic has taken many forms, and I’ve compiled the most significant examples below.

Vaticanist Antonio Socci said that the virus has revealed the “great hypocrisy of the ‘progressive Church’” in that while Pope Francis said that the “shepherd must take the smell of the sheep,” he and other shepherds have holed themselves up and have decided to stay “well clear of the sheep and their breath.” “The other slogan from Bergoglio was ‘the church is a field hospital.’ And here, as soon as the epidemic broke out, traces of this field hospital are totally lost,” he wrote. Socci said that the situation was “completely confusing for Catholics, who feel as if they have...
