Despite a hefty prison sentence, accused kidnapper Phillip DeWoody was eligible for parole under a 1990 change to state law that adjusted parole eligibility for older offenders facing long prison sentences. The Opelousas man is accused in the disappearance and death of Ville Platte resident Joyce Thomas, a deaf and mute 72-year-old woman whose body was found on a property along Interstate 49 between Sunset and Opelousas on Monday morning.

Turkey says it is deploying 1,000 police officers to its land border with Greece to halt the pushback of migrants into Turkey. Thousands of migrants and refugees, desperate to get into the EU, remain in the border zone. Greek guards have fired tear gas to stop them entering. The extra Turkish police are going to the Meric river (called Evros in Greek) on the border, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said. The EU has condemned Turkey's policy. Mutumba claimed he hadn't been intimate with his 'wife' since the wedding two weeks before because Tumushabe said 'she' was menstruating. . . . But Tumushabe was rumbled when he was arrested or theft of a television set and clothes from his next door neighbours in January. A female police officer carried out a body search on the suspect, thinking Tumushabe was a woman, and found out he was actually a man. The US is facing a Purell hand sanitizer shortage as demand for the disinfectant soared 1,400 percent amid the coronavirus outbreak. Candace Talley, 27, of Sicklerville, Camden County, has been charged with human trafficking and promoting prostitution. Talley was employed as a caseworker by the Delaware County Office of Children and Youth Services for the span of four months in 2017, according to a statement given on Friday by a spokesperson for the office. She is accused of recruiting women as prostitutes, pimping them for a 25% cut of their earnings.
