On Wednesday, “Fox News Sunday,” anchor Chris Wallace reacted to Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s Senate Judiciary Committee testimony by suggesting the FBI deserved the benefit of the doubt. Wallace said, “Can you prove beyond a reasonable doubt that there was a political bias there? No, but it sure does stink when you have three different teams, and they are all pushing the same way, and it’s all for investigating and surveilling Carter Page.”

Donald Trump Jr. blasted Time on Twitter for choosing teen climate activist Greta Thunberg as Person of the Year. Trump Jr. suggested the pro-democracy protesters who have rocked Hong Kong should have been given the title instead. "Time leaves out the Hong Kong Protesters fighting for their lives and freedoms to push a teen being used as a marketing gimmick," he tweeted. "How dare you?" The comment, "How dare you?" is seemingly another jab at Thunberg. The teen famously asked world leaders that same question during an emotional speech at the United Nations in New York City in September. Edward...

This isn’t new from the media, and not even new from Fox’s Chris Wallace, but historically ignorant nonetheless. Without even an Alien and Sedition Act to his name, Wallace accused Donald Trump of being the worst threat ever to press freedom in the nation’s history. The speech at the Washington DC Newseum came as part of a celebration of the First Amendment, which clearly didn’t include any real perspective on it: “I believe that President Trump is engaged in the most direct sustained assault on freedom of the press in our history,” Wallace said to applause at the Newseum,...

Ad spotted in my weekly bargain bulletin: “FOR SALE: Crestview cemetery plot, $200, so I don’t have to spend all eternity beside my ex!” Our son was upset that his baseball coach yelled whenever he or a teammate made a mistake. “It’s just something coaches do,” I said. “It’s not personal.” His response was hard to argue with: “If it’s not personal, then why do they use your name?” The homework assignment for my Spanish class was to write a paragraph. When I returned their papers, I asked one student if he had used Google Translate or any other online...

There are clearly some Democrats who are beginning to worry that this entire impeachment thing could backfire and potentially lead to Trump winning a second term. And they may be justified in those fears. Some of their members are already saying they will vote against impeachment and would prefer to go with a censure. Multiple polls now show the public swinging back the other way and opposing impeachment and removal. And for reasons that are difficult to parse, Trump is suddenly surging in Iowa and several swing states. So if we game this out to the finish line, what do...

WASHINGTON — Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz said the FBI employee who misled DOJ's Office of Intelligence about the relationship that Carter Page, former Trump campaign foreign policy advisor, had with the CIA still works at the FBI. “What about the case agent who directly misled the DOJ, an Office of Intelligence attorney, about Carter Page’s relationship with other intelligence agencies in our government, who directly misled the OI about that, is that person to your knowledge still at the FBI?” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) asked Horowitz at a Senate hearing on Wednesday. “To my knowledge, that person...

A sprawling federal investigation into lobbying, patronage and alleged corruption threatens to upend Illinois’s powerful Democratic machine as agents raid offices and interrogate witnesses from Chicago to Springfield. Federal agents have conducted searches of at least nine homes and offices in connection to a probe of Commonwealth Edison, the state’s largest utility, and the political operation run by state House Speaker Mike Madigan, the most powerful Democrat in Illinois. Those agents have been asking questions about Madigan, his associates and his political operation, according to two people who have sat for interviews with law enforcement.

The long-anticipated Inspector General Report, aka the Horowitz Report, was finally released on December 9th. After two years of investigation, the report was probably a disappointment to some, a thrill to others, and misunderstood by most. The liberal media immediately latched on to the report and claimed that it validated their breathless reporting of evil doings by the Trump administration when it said the FBI had adequate cause to open its investigations and that there was no documented political bias evident. Conservative media noted that the report proved the whole investigation was a farce from beginning to end. The reality...

Take a number, any number. If it’s even, halve it. If it’s odd, multiply by 3 and add 1. Repeat. Do all starting numbers lead to 1? Experienced mathematicians warn up-and-comers to stay away from the Collatz conjecture. It’s a siren song, they say: Fall under its trance and you may never do meaningful work again. The Collatz conjecture is quite possibly the simplest unsolved problem in mathematics — which is exactly what makes it so treacherously alluring. “This is a really dangerous problem. People become obsessed with it and it really is impossible,” said Jeffrey Lagarias, a mathematician at...

On Wednesday, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, kicked off a hearing about the Trump-Russia probe by bewailing government surveillance. He sounded like a downright radical. He likened what the FBI did to poor Russia-connected Trump adviser Carter Page in 2016 to what J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI did to Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s. Sure, Lindsey. Reminder: In 1964, J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI sent King an anonymous letter, calling him “sexually psychotic” and urging him to commit suicide. Graham, of course, has long been a passionate supporter of the NSA surveillance program and the...

When Adelaide Liverpool Castro grew up in her native Puerto Rico, she did not have a black woman outside of her family with whom she could identify.
