Sex differences in risk seeking behaviour, emergency hospital admissions, and mortality are well documented. However, little is known about sex differences in idiotic risk taking behaviour. This paper reviews the data on winners of the Darwin Award over a 20 year period (1995-2014). Winners of the Darwin Award must eliminate themselves from the gene pool in such an idiotic manner that their action ensures one less idiot will survive. This paper reports a marked sex difference in Darwin Award winners: males are significantly more likely to receive the award than females (P<0.0001). We discuss some of the reasons for this...

Barring any last-minute glitches — admittedly, no small concern — the House of Representatives will vote sometime Thursday on an omnibus spending bill that takes the place of 11 out of the 12 appropriations bills that Congress, were it working under regular order, would have produced this year. The 1,603-page bill, which was only made public late Tuesday, will fund the majority of the government through the end of this fiscal year in September. The exception is the Department of Homeland Security, which will be funded by a temporary continuing resolution (CR) so that Republicans, when they have control of...

Washington remains on hold while the Senate continues to grapple with the trillion dollar CROmnibus bill which passed – or more accurately, was punted - by the Republican held House: “…you punt on fourth down, not first down. And right now, the House leadership, for whatever reason, thinks it’s best to punt without running a play.” - Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) note: this is a must-read In addition to being on hold, D.C. will also be in gridlock: the Reverend Al Sharpton is holding his traffic blocking “Justice for All Blacks Killed by White Cops, Butt Not Blacks Killed by...

Such has been the Democrat talking point in fain shock at the Central Intelligence Agency’s enhanced interrogation of terrorists. The program reportedly began in early 2002 and lasted until late 2007 so as to not indict Mullah Obama’s regime. The staff which wrote the report probably got some help from Hollywood writers to make it more dramatic. These are the same al Qaeda terrorists who were part of the effort that killed 3000 Americans on Sept 11. But then what do Democrats care? They weren’t going to get their votes anyway. This was a naked act of political grandstanding by...

This morning my Daughter and her friend were jogging on the bridge today. They came across a 45 caliber Glock in the grass by the sidewalk. It appeared someone tried to toss the gun from a moving car into the marsh, but missed. She saw a policeman writing a traffic ticket and told him what she saw. He asked her to wait while he finished his business. Then he came and interviewed the girls and called the investigators to treat the gun as a crime scene.

New technologies such as 3D bioprinting promise to offer a laundry list of new treatments, drug discovery, and cures within the medical industry. With that said, we have been hearing promises for years that 3D printing will change the face of medicine. Despite these promises, bioprinting has yet to make any major impact within the market. Today things may have just changed! San Diego-based 3D bioprinting company Organovo (NYSE MKT: ONVO) has today announced the full commercial availability of their exVive3D Human Liver Tissue for preclinical drug discovery testing. The tissue, which is created via an in-house 3D printer, could...

Sen. Tim Scott gives the Republican Party's Weekly Remarks Hi, I’m Senator Tim Scott from the great state of South Carolina. I’m deeply honored to have been elected by the hardworking people of South Carolina to represent them in the United States Senate. The mid-term elections put the President’s policies on the ballot, and the American people overwhelmingly rejected them by electing Republicans into office all around the country. (Scroll down for video of these remarks.) The new Republican majority in the Senate, alongside the House of Representatives, will present solutions that work for American families, and I truly hope...

To say the last 24 hours of research has uncovered significant information would be the understatement of the year. We are going to attempt to share the discoveries and keep the text digestible, but the depth here is really consuming. So we’ll start with a troubling outline of the investigation and then share more alarming evidence of big trouble in a small town. First concern – given the current framework and national sentiment around racial crime, you can quickly identify why DA John Champion would be the absolute worst possible person to seek Justice for Jessica Chambers. Once you know...

The Rev. Al Sharpton is keeping expectations low for Saturday’s National March Against Police Violence — predicting that only “several thousand” protesters will gather along Washington’s Pennsylvania Avenue. “We have over 100 buses coming from New York alone, but I’m not giving out numbers,” Sharpton told The Post Friday night. The permit is for just 5,000 protesters, a National Parks Service spokesperson said Friday. That’s modest by DC protest standards. Martin Luther King Jr. amassed a crowd of 250,000 for his 1963 civil-rights march; the 1995 Million Man March drew 400,000 to the nation’s capital.

We are entering a Stoned New World here, as Colorado entrepreneurs come up with new ways to make money in the new… ah… atmosphere… of tolerance. It’s also an interesting test case for longtime proponents of legalization such as myself, to see what happens when perfect theory encounters an imperfect world. Our first stumbling block is that the state-sponsored growers and sellers cartels have kept prices artificially high (no pun intended), so we still have a black market for the green herb. That also means, as we’ve discussed here before, that tax revenues are not meeting expectations.

MOSCOW (AP) — A furniture store has taken over a Moscow cinema, allowing theatergoers to enjoy what more closely resembles an enormous slumber party than an afternoon at the movies. This week the Swedish furniture giant IKEA replaced a movie theater's seats with beds in its Russian "Awake Love" campaign. The switchover took place in the Moscow suburb of Khimki, not far from a branch of the store beloved by many Russians. The campaign, which lasts until Dec. 14, is modeled after a similar event in 2010 at a Paris music hall.

Featured Term selected at random:FATHERS OF THE CHURCH Saintly writers of the early centuries whom the Church recognizes as her special witnesses of the faith. Antiquity, orthodoxy, sanctity, and approval by the Church are their four main prerogatives. They are commonly divided into the Greek and Latin Fathers. It is now generally held that the last of the Western Fathers (Latin) closed with St. Isidore of Seville (560-636), and the last of the Eastern Fathers (Greek) was St. John Damascene (675-749). Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., says she probably won't run for office again. "Oh Lord, no," Landrieu, 59, told reporters when asked if another campaign, perhaps for governor in 2015 or the Senate in 2016, was in her future. "Well, let me say, I'm not going to say a definite 'no' about any of those two," Landrieu said. "I've been trained to never say no. But it is highly, highly unlikely." [Snip] Matthew Lehner, her communications director, said he expects her farewell address later Thursday to be upbeat, and reflect on some of the contributions - such as oil and gas...

A Russian loan to France’s National Front. Invitations to Moscow for leaders of Austria’s Freedom Party. Praise for Vladimir Putin from the head of Britain’s anti-European Union party. As the diplomatic chill over Ukraine deepens, the Kremlin seems keener than ever to enlist Europe’s far-right parties in its campaign for influence in the West, seeking new relationships based largely on shared concern over the growing clout of the EU. […] The fact that many of Moscow’s allies are right to far-right reflects the Kremlin's full turn. Under communism, xenophobic nationalist parties were shunned. Now they are embraced as partners who...

Jonathan Gruber’s health care forecasting is failing in Colorado as Vermont’s Gov. Peter Shumlin prepares to use the economist’s math for single-payer health care. As Vermonters anxiously await a Gruber-modeled financing plan for Green Mountain Care, modeling done for Colorado’s health exchange by Jonathan Gruber Associates has proven wildly erroneous. In 2011, following Colorado’s decision to set up a state health exchange for Obamacare, the state hired Gruber to forecast enrollment trends from which the state and federal government could estimate costs. According to a presentation delivered to the Colorado Health Benefit Exchange Board on Sept. 16, 2011, and provided...

When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” Matthew 2:4-6 NIV If anyone tries to make the argument that either Party is not run by Marxists they have to look no further than John Bohner and his...
