I did get a chance, on my voyage yesterday, to listen to this part of Rush’s show (emphasis mine): RUSH: I’m gonna take a stab at answering my question. Obama is literally pushing people to snap, attacking the very sanity of the country. To what end? Aside from wanting everybody’s name on a list of some kind, why is Obama doing all of this? I mean, all of this is so in our face. Everything that people hold dear is under assault, deliberately making people upset. This is not what presidents do. Deliberately making people upset. Maybe this is about...

Via Facebook, the Tea Party Sent the Following Message to Governor Palin: Dear Sarah:We’ve missed you. We know you spend a lot of time with your family now and are on Fox News a lot, but we think it is time for “Momma Grizzly” to make an appearance again. Who better than you who grew up with all kinds of firearms to get involved again and lead a movement to protect the 2nd Amendment. Since many republicans in Congress are too weak-kneed to stand up to a tyrannical Constitution breaking President, maybe it’s high time for you to come...

A US Navy minesweeper has run aground in a protected marine sanctuary in the Philippines, the US embassy in Manila said Thursday. The USS Guardian ran aground on the Tubattaha Reef on Wednesday night "during normal transit", it said. The extent of the damage to the ship and the cause of the accident was still not known, it added. The US Navy said on its website that the 224-foot (68-metre) vessel is based in Sasebo, southern Japan but it was...

My wife was diagnosed a few months ago with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. Cancer is never good news but I understand this cancer is the one to have in the way of recovery and cure. She had her Thyroid Gland completely removed in November and underwent I-131 treatment Wednesday morning. A low to moderate dose we were told. She does have concerns about me which I feel are minimal risk issues but would like some help answering. First of all many if not most of the precautions she was supposed to take herself she can herself not do. She is a...

*Colin Powell went in on his own Republican Party during an interview on “Meet the Press” Sunday, calling out some “former governors” as using racist statements to describe President Obama and noting that there is a “dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party.” “What do I mean by that?,” he explained. “What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities.” Powell specifically pointed to October 2012 comments by former Alaska Gov. and Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin on the attacks in Benghazi, Libya. “When I see a former governor say that the...

A scale model of a Reaper drone rumbled down the runway and lifted into the gray Canadian sky, powered by a plastic propeller and a lithium-ion battery. When the tiny plane crashed back to earth a few seconds later, white smoke began rising from the wreckage. “Why is it on fire?” one of the hobbyists asked the other, moments before bright orange flames began shooting from the crash site. The weary reply, captured on video, was: “Battery.” Small, potent lithium-ion power packs have transformed the world of radio-controlled model aircraft, much as they have allowed smartphones to get thinner, power...

A girl of 11 was sold to a child trafficker who branded her with his initial, a court heard yesterday. Mohammed Karrar, 38, also loaned her to abusers around the country for £600 an hour, it was alleged. Over five years she was repeatedly raped by large groups of men in what she described as ‘torture sex’, the jury was told. Seven men of Pakistani origin and two from North Africa are accused of 79 offences against six vulnerable white British girls. The charges include child rape, sexual trafficking and child prostitution. Noel Lucas QC, prosecuting, said Karrar – known...

After trotting out young children as the backdrop for his gun control rollout yesterday, the White House released videos today of young children reading anti-gun letters to the camera. “No guns, no guns, no guns, no guns!” pleads one little girl, Hinnah. “My opinion is it should be very hard for people to buy guns,” says little Julia. “It’s a free country, but I recommend there needs to be a limit with guns,” says little Grant. “I thought I would write to you to stop gun violence,” reads little Taejah...

Joe Biden explained President Barack Obama's gun control measures by saying that "It is about civility in society," according to the Huffington Post. "This is about the coarsening of our culture." Biden, who delivered remarks to a group of American mayors, joked, "As one hunter told me, if you got 12 rounds, it means you already missed the deer 11 times. ... You should pack the sucker in. You don't deserve a gun, period, if you're that bad." Biden said he's ready to fight for the gun control measures. "We, you, the citizens can change the nation," he said, according...

Seeking To Harness Obama's Campaign Resources For A Second Term An ambitious new political organization is being built out of the machine that propelled him back into office, with the hope of supporting his policy objectives. By Matea Gold January 17, 2013 WASHINGTON — As he launches his second term, President Obama may get help from an ambitious new political organization being built out of his reelection campaign, a group that could reshape how future presidents harness supporters to press their White House agendas. Run by former Obama campaign officials, the advocacy group will seek to leverage the campaign's sophisticated...

During the National Rifle Association’s meeting with Vice President Joe Biden and the White House gun violence task force, the vice president said that the administration did not have the time to prosecute existing gun laws. Jim Baker, the NRA representative present at the meeting, recalled the vice president’s words to The Daily Caller: “And to your point, Mr. Baker, regarding the lack of prosecutions on lying on Form 4473s, we simply don’t have the time or manpower to prosecute everybody who lies on a form, that checks a wrong box, that answers a question inaccurately.” Submitting false information on...

LAS VEGAS — The United States appears to be experiencing a record run on military-style assault weapons, high-capacity magazines and some kinds of ammunition as buyers deluge stores in search of guns and bullets they fear will be banned by the Obama administration, according to firearms industry executives and market analysts. Even allowing for spikes in gun sales that follow every mass killing in the United States and attendant political debates about gun control, industry executives said the surge seems unprecedented. And it has emptied shelves of the kind of semiautomatic rifle that was used to kill 20 children and...

More than 100 civilians have been killed in a new “massacre” in Syria, a watchdog said Thursday, according to AFP. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the deaths came on Tuesday, when the army swept through farmlands north of Homs city, where it said around 1,000 people had sought refuge from fighting in the central Syria metropolis. “The Syrian regime carried out a new massacre on Tuesday claiming 106 victims, including women and children,” the Britain-based watchdog, which relies on a network of activists and medics on the ground, told AFP. Witnesses said several members of the same family...

My mother is obsessed with beets. She grows the plants in the backyard, puts them on just about everything and insists that they’re how she stays as healthy as she is (that and her immunities are pretty much Helm’s Deep after teaching hundreds of elementary schoolers for 7 years). Since my immunities are rather low, she’s always tried to get me to eat them but I just never knew how to eat beets in a way I actually enjoyed. I always found that the flavor overwhelmed my palette and when you don’t enjoy something, you tend to not go out...

Jewish women in Israel are having more children, while Muslim women are having less, a new report issued by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics has revealed. According to the report, Jewish women give birth on average to 3 children, up from 2.53 in 1995. Muslim women give birth to 3.51 children on average, down considerably from last decade, when the number reached 4.74. Druze women have seen a considerable decrease in fertility rate, though the time period included in the report was much more significant. In 1965 Druze women were having on average 7.61 children. In 2012 that number was...

A rule of the modern age: all confident, reelected presidents trip up in the second term. LBJ was sunk by Vietnam. Reagan faced Iran-Contra. Bill Clinton had his comeuppance with Monica. George W. Bush was overwhelmed with the Iraqi insurgency and Katrina. And Obama will have his as well, obsequious media or not. Supposedly fundamental partisan swings of an era usually prove transitory: LBJ’s landside led to Nixon four years later, whose landslide then led to Carter in 1980, whose supposed new politics of humility and apology led to Reagan, whose small government-paradigm shift nonetheless by 1992 gave us Clinton,...
