Do You Want To Scare A Baby Boomer? By Michael Snyder January 17th, 2013 If you want to frighten Baby Boomers, just show them the list of statistics in this article. The United States is headed for a retirement crisis of unprecedented magnitude, and we are woefully unprepared for it. At this point, more than 10,000 Baby Boomers are reaching the age of 65 every single day, and this will continue to happen for almost the next 20 years. The number of senior citizens in America is projected to more than double during the first half of this century, and...

Protecting Your Dog Do you include your dog in your home-defense plan? by Sheriff Jim Wilson January 08, 2013 From time to time we see reports of police shooting a dog in the course of responding to a call for assistance or while executing a warrant for search or arrest. Without a doubt, some of these incidents may be the result of poor training or the lack of proper planning on the part of law enforcement. However, that is of little comfort to the citizen when his family pet has been destroyed. With some thought, planning, and training, this kind...

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter ripped the National Rifle Association for using President Barack Obama’s two daughters in an ad, declaring it “beyond the bounds of human decency” at a congressional hearing Wednesday. “As a father, I find it reprehensible, disgusting and beyond the bounds of human decency that the NRA would place an ad on television attacking President Obama’s daughters,” Nutter said to applause from the dais at a meeting of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, adding: “The NRA has struck a new low and that should be removed immediately.” The NRA released an ad Tuesday night calling the...

“Revenue” Redefined: Libs abuse another innocent word by Daniel Clark Sometimes it seems like it would be a good idea to publish a liberal-to-English dictionary. That way, normal people would be able to understand what liberals mean when they take already existing words, and apply meanings to them that are nowhere close to their true definitions. Listening to liberals speak can be like visiting Alice’s Wonderland. Taking things that belong to somebody else is what they call “fairness.” Parading through town while wearing leashes and chains and nothing else is an exhibition of “pride.” Violent criminals who are turned loose...

Two key memos outlining the Justice Department’s views about when Americans can be surreptitiously tracked with GPS technology are being kept secret by the department despite a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by the ACLU to force their release. The FBI’s general counsel discussed the existence of the two memos publicly last year, yet the Justice Department is refusing to release them without huge redactions. (You can see the heavily censored versions sent to the ACLU here and here, and our original FOIA request here.) The Justice Department’s unfortunate decision leaves Americans with no clear understanding of when we...

Perhaps the best that can be said about the New York gun law is that it is a modern updating of the old principle of apotropaic magic. The state of New York has just passed what has been called the toughest gun control law in the nation, the first such law to go on the books since the Newtown massacre shocked and horrified the nation. Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has championed the new law, has virtually dared both other states and the federal government to do something equally tough about gun violence. Tough here is the operative word, as you...

by John HillStand With Arizona No, this is not an episode of the Twilight Zone, nor an escaped mental patient ranting on camera before being taken away in a straight jacket. This is the sitting mayor of America's 2nd largest city, and a predicted Democrat Presidential candidate for 2016. But that doesn't make it any less crazy. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa yesterday urged this much at a National Press Club appearance by supporters of illegal alien amnesty: "It is time to put an end to the practice of deporting non-serious criminals," said Villaraigosa. "Our neighborhoods will be safer and our...

Conservative Brain Candy...Intellectual Froglegs No. 16 The Schools and the Media How did left-wing radical fruitcakes like the Taxman in Chief take control of America and steer it on a course that history has repeatedly proven leads to disaster? True moonbats have always been a small percentage of the population. But even if their ideology is communist crazy, their strategy is sound. They took over the schools and the media. From there destroying America has been child’s play.  Class is in session at Joe Dan Gorman’s Frogleg University- Dave at Moonbattery Cool tunage from: Kansas, The O’Jays, Chicago, ZZ Top, Led...

Thieves ransacked a house that features on the gun map published by the Journal News, just days after another home on the list was also targeted. Burglars broke into the house in New City, New York, on Wednesday and pried open two safes, before leaving with another one. The criminals escaped with two handguns, two pistol permits, cash, savings bonds and jewelry. The firearms were in the stolen safe. Burglars also broke into a house in White Plains, New York, on Saturday and headed straight for the gun safe.

President Obama is asking congress to enact tough new gun controls. They include a ban on assault weapons, universal background checks and tight ammo restrictions. Valley lawmakers aren't buying it. "I'm very concerned about these children being used as props and I think it needs to come to a stop," said local Congressman, Devin Nunes. Congressman Nunes says the gun proposal is mostly political smoke and mirrors. "It's meant to cause distraction to the American people to get them off the most important pressing issues which are the economic issues that face our country today," said Congressman Nunes. New Valley...

The public discourse suddenly swirls angrily around this issue: How big a gun should people be allowed to own, with how many bullets? Despite all the furor, the question has a very simple answer. But it's the wrong question. Even those who routinely carry a concealed weapon, and certainly many who don't, wrestle with the question, "How much firepower does anyone need?" Perhaps those who don't own weapons think the answer should be very close to zero. Those who know that many times each year violent attacks are stopped when someone simply shows a weapon understand that self-defense tools are...

Via Mark Levin, here's what happens when Doing Something is more important than knowing what you're doing. You've got a governor here who's facing reelection in 2014 and may well end up being the national frontrunner for his party's nomination in 2016 if Hillary doesn't run. He's feeling political pressure not just from above, in the form of a president who's vowed to drum up Do Something fever among Democrats nationally, but from below in the form of a rich, high-profile nanny-state mayor for whom this is a pet issue. One of his top national rivals is also scrambling to...

Canadians produce more garbage than anyone else Conference Board calls Canada an 'environmental laggard' Canadians use far too much energy and water, and they produce more garbage per capita than any other country on earth, a report from an influential think-tank says. The Conference Board of Canada gave Canada a C grade on Thursday and ranked it in 15th place among 17 developed nations studied across a host of environmental-efficiency metrics. "Our large land mass, cold climate and resource-intensive economy make us less likely to rank highly on some indicators of environmental sustainability, but many of our poor results are...

An American from Texas remains missing after an Algerian military raid on an Al Qaeda-linked group reportedly ended a hostage standoff at a remote gas plant in the Saharan Desert. Two Americans escaped unharmed Thursday from the hostage standoff, a senior U.S. defense officials told Fox News, and five other Americans who had been at the vast Ain Amenas complex were able to avoid being taken captive when the terrorists first attacked early Wednesday. The Associated Press reports at least six people, and perhaps many more, were killed -- Britons, Filipinos and Algerians -- in the Algerians special forces' rescue...

A report by a panel of experts released on Thursday questioned whether the federal government's food stamp program adequately provides for healthy diets for the more than 47 million low-income people who rely on the benefit. The report ... found that the aid for families to pay for groceries, officially called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, does not account for many barriers to finding affordable, nutritious food by inner-city shoppers. ... The U.S. Agriculture Department, which administers the aid program, sought the report to help it determine the best way to assess whether food stamps benefits are adequate for recipients...

A mysterious "snake goddess" painted on terracotta and discovered in Athens may actually be Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest. Once linked to the worship of the dead, the goddess is flanked by two snakes on a slab of terracotta about the size of a piece of notebook paper. She has her hands up above her head, which has given her the nickname "the touchdown goddess"... This unusual piece of art was found amid a jumble of gravel and other terracotta fragments in 1932 in what was once the Athenian agora, or public square. The catch, however, is that...

PROVIDENCE — The Newtown massacre is giving fresh momentum to efforts to strengthen firearm laws in Rhode Island, with local leaders calling for a state ban on semi-automatic weapons and legislators vowing to look at gun access, mental health screening and other policies that might curb violence. The push has gun rights supporters on a quiet defensive, determined to protect their right to bear arms while acknowledging that the slaughter in next-door Connecticut has made an already delicate political debate especially sensitive. State Rep. Teresa Tanzi is one of those at the center of the debate. The South Kingstown Democrat...

(Reuters) - New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie harshly criticized the National Rifle Association on Thursday for referring to U.S. President Barack Obama's children in an ad that advocates putting armed guards in schools, calling it "reprehensible" and "wrong." "I think it's awful to bring public figures' children into the political debate," Christie said at a press conference in Trenton, New Jersey.

HARTFORD -- The chief lobbyist for state hunters says there's very little he will support among the more than a dozen proposals presented by the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities. Robert Crook, of Madison, executive director of the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen, attended the CCM's news conference in the Capitol complex Wednesday, then announced that the gun-control proposals would not succeed in stopping future incidents similar to the Newtown shootings. "The problem is mental health and school security, not guns," Crook said. "The guy who had the gun, he broke, I don't know, 14, 15 laws. So he's a criminal. So...
