In a move that put local high school teachers back in the student seats, CSU Channel Islands teamed with experts from NASA to educate youths through their teachers. About 15 teachers from schools in the Oxnard Union High School District spent the week of June 18 with science experts in the Promoting Educational Leadership Climate Science Summer Institute. Organizers hope to educate teachers on the issues surrounding climate change and ultimately to reach youths, according to Bill Patzert, a research scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Remember when Michele Bachmann uncovered $105 billion buried within the Obamacare bill that was earmarked for enforcement of the law? Now we are learning that $500 million of that will be going directly to the IRS for that very purpose. So although the law appears to be on the verge of being ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, the White House is nevertheless racing to implement this beast, so that even if the law is overturned it will be a nightmare to unwind. Bachmann discussed all this and more last night on Greta.

I think there is a lot of whistling past the graveyard going on among conservatives who think that Obamacare is really in the political crosshairs now, and indeed, could lead to the defeat of the president’s reelection effort. I worry that the opposite is true. Sure, opponents who care a lot about the constitutionality and policy propriety of the ACA are very upset and motivated to defeat the president. But they already were. For the relatively uninvolved, the message of the Roberts ruling, despite the justice’s protests to the contrary, is that Obamacare is A-okay. That will increase the law’s...

President Barack Obama won a monumental legal victory Thursday when the Supreme Court upheld the vast majority of his health-care law, but the fight for public opinion—and votes in November—showed signs of growing more heated. Mr. Obama can argue that he has secured long-held Democratic goals: Expanding health insurance to millions of additional Americans and limiting the power of insurers to deny coverage. That could help the president motivate core parts of his party's base that he needs for re-election, including college-educated women, younger voters and minorities. But the ruling is likely to re-energize Republicans, who swept to a majority...

President Obama says the health care law makes coverage more affordable, but the insurance industry reacted to the Supreme Court decision by saying that the ruling will actually end up raising rates even more than they have climbed since the law was enacted. America’s Health Insurance Plans, the industry’s lobby group, issued a statement supporting expanding health care coverage to millions of Americans, but it said, “major provisions, such as the premium tax, will have unintended consequences of raising costs and disrupting coverage unless they are addressed.” The group's CEO, Karen Ignagni, told Fox News that because of the increased...

Despite his quick recovery from the seizure he suffered on Monday, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. faces a complex diagnosis and a difficult decision. Because the seizure was his second — he had a similar one in 1993 — he meets the criteria for epilepsy, and he and his doctors will have to decide whether he should take medication to prevent further seizures, said neurologists not involved in his care. (Neither the chief justice nor his doctors would comment yesterday.) The decision will involve weighing the risk of more seizures against the risk of side effects from the drugs....

I was listening just now to a$$wipe Hannity blithering on the radio about the proposed Romney idea to "Repeal and Replace" regrading ObamaCare, as all the while an astute listener tried to get a word in edgewise about his idea to "Repeal, and Return to the People". Hannity kept going on and on about his Federal, statist solutions, because, "We've GOT to insure that everyone has access to affordable healthcare," and "We've got to make it FAIR for people with pre-existing conditions" and such. What struck me was Hannity's strident insistence on Federal solutions that are found nowhere in the...

This week the Supreme Court delivered one of the most consequential and highly anticipated rulings in history — it upheld President Obama's health care law. In doing so, the court — and this administration — dealt a critical blow to free enterprise and ensured that taxes will go up for middle class working families and small businesses everywhere. This dims prospects for economic growth, while leaving in place the barriers to hiring imposed by the law, like costly, burdensome regulations and pervasive uncertainty. I've always believed that President Obama's health care law was and is bad politics and bad policy...

Upon further review and discussion here, I've concluded that the majority opinion of Chief Justice Roberts in the ObamaCare case was exactly what this country needed. He effectively took the heap of crap that had been dumped in the halls of the U.S. Supreme Court and tossed it right back out where it belongs: in the homes and businesses of every U.S. citizen who has allowed this bunch of fools in Washington to govern us this way. Think of it, folks ... Any obligation of the U.S. Supreme Court to deal with this idiocy went out the window the moment...

Justin Bieber is many things: Singer, actor ... Canadian? It's true! And Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill.) used the Bieb's Canadian ancestry to make a point about the controversial Arizona immigration law. [Related: Arizona implements immigration law as feds push back] Gutierrez, who is against the law that allows Arizona law enforcement officials to ask those deemed suspicious for proof of American citizenship, raised the point on the House floor that judging whether or not somebody is from the U.S. based on appearance is illogical and silly. And, he argues, rather difficult. [Related: Immigration from Mexico plummeted well before Arizona...

Scandal: The House vote to hold the attorney general in contempt is well-deserved for someone with a track record of incompetence and lying to Congress. He serves and protects a president just as unworthy. It has been a mystery to us how baseball great Roger Clemens could be put on trial for lying to Congress but Attorney General Eric Holder was not. Holder has under oath made many misstatements of fact and contradictory statements and concealed documents on a life-and-death matter. Court tosses law about false claims on medals Published June 28, 2012 Associated Press WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a federal law making it a crime to lie about receiving the Medal of Honor and other prized military awards, with justices branding the false claim "contemptible" but nonetheless protected by the First Amendment. The court voted 6-3 in favor of Xavier Alvarez, a former local elected official in California who falsely said he was a decorated war veteran and had pleaded guilty to violating the 2006 law, known as the Stolen Valor Act. The law, enacted...

the Supreme Cort will be exclusively filled with judges who earned their law degrees at Harvard or Yale. That seems somewhat remarkable given that there are more than 1 million lawyers in the United States and 200 law schools approved by the American Bar Association (seven of them are provisionally approved). Should we care? Jonathan Turley, a law scholar at George Washington University, does, according to this story from the McClatchy Newspapers. “You’re voiding a wide array of interesting and potentially brilliant nominees,” he was quoted as saying. “It’s like insisting you’re only going to read books by two authors."...
