Breitbart News, monitoring ABC's World News with Diane Sawyer, has found the network's flagship news program gave less coverage to Congress's vote to hold a sitting Attorney General in contempt than the death of a "My Three Sons" actor and an auction program for lost airline luggage. The program led with stories on the Supreme Court's ruling on the Affordable Care Act and wildfires in Colorado--stories of equal magnitude to AG Eric Holder being found in criminal and civil contempt. WN then covered SCOTUS striking down the Stolen Valor Act, a law which criminalized false claims of military service. World...

The Republican Plan B is to repeal Obamacare on Day 1 of a Romney presidency. Good luck with that. First, today's Supreme Court decision will make it a lot harder to elect Mitt Romney. President Obama has just been handed a fearsome election weapon. 2012 is no longer exclusively a referendum on the president's economic management. 2012 is now also a referendum on Mitt Romney's healthcare plans. The president can now plausibly say that a vote for the Republicans is a vote to raise prescription drug costs on senior citizens and to empower insurance companies to deny coverage to children...

It’s important that you think carefully about the meaning – the true nature — of his ruling on Obama-care. The Left will shout that they won, that Obama-care was upheld and all the rest. Let them. It will be a short-lived celebration. Here’s what really occurred — payback. Yes, payback for Obama’s numerous, ill-advised and childish insults directed toward SCOTUS. Chief Justice Roberts actually ruled the mandate, relative to the commerce clause, was unconstitutional. That’s how the Democrats got Obama-care going in the first place. This is critical. His ruling means Congress can’t compel American citizens to purchase anything. Ever....

By commenting that Germany should perhaps leave the euro and exerting significant pressure on Prime Minister Mario Monti, former Italian premier Berlusconi is back in the headlines. Are his political escapades those of a senile billionaire or is he seriously thinking of returning to power? On Tuesday afternoon in Rome, Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti and his predecessor Silvio Berlusconi were sitting at a table with a few close associates. Monti, alarmed by Berlusconi's recent statements, which were sometimes threatening and sometimes confused, was seeking clarity. Monti said that in such a sensitive and decisive moment, Italy's parliament must stand...

Was Rush Limbaugh right when he discussed Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin, criticizing the Secretary of State for her Deputy Chief of Staff’s familial ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and the close relationship between Huma’s mother and Egypt’s new first lady? Think Progress refers to Limbaugh’s claims as ‘baseless’. First, here is Rush’s commentary on the subject on June 26th (via Think Progress): The first sign that Rush’s claim is not baseless is that Think Progress says it is. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, Saleha and her now-deceased husband, Syed Z. Abedin, co-founded the Institute of...

Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote.org, issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the individual insurance mandate as a tax, holding that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional. "The power to overturn this legislation now rests with the American people, who opposed this legislation from day one. Given the power wielded by Catholics in every election, the election of a pro-freedom President and Senate must now become the number one political goal of every Catholic voter in America.

I actually told my students at the end of the semester that I thought the Supreme Court would uphold the individual mandate and the rest of the provisions because it was carefully drafted in consultation with constitutional lawyers. The U.S. Supreme Court today voted to uphold the Affordable Care Act, refusing to overturn the unpopular law and sending the issue back to voters to decide in the upcoming presidential election. The 5-4 decision found the individual mandate at the heart of the law was a tax and therefore allowable under Congress’ constitutional power to levy taxes. Roberts joined the conservative wing in finding the law otherwise would have violated the Commerce Clause, however, by exceeding the power of Congress. The decision is a victory for liberals who for decades had been pushing for a federal law to provide...

Explanation: The glare of Alpha Centauri, one of the brightest stars in planet Earth's night sky, floods the left side of this southern skyscape. A mere 4.3 light-years distant, Alpha Centauri actually consists of two component stars similar in size to the Sun, locked in a mutual orbit. Much smaller and cooler, a third member of the same star system, Proxima Centauri, lies outside this field of view. Still, the telescopic scene does reveal often overlooked denizens of the Milky Way's crowded galactic plane that lie beyond the glare of Alpha Centauri, including a planetary nebula cataloged as Hen 2-111,...

Just had a thought on how Obamacare could be stopped. Not to mention all future taxation of a persons inactivity would be stopped. Simply author a bill that states "The federal government CAN NOT tax individuals for inactivity. Nor can they tax an individual for not buying a good or service." I know this will not happen because they bill would have to be 1000 pages long and full of other worthless things. But essentially would this work? Wouldn't this slam the door on what was opened today the taxation of an individual for inactivity?

WASHINGTON — It's been a week of big decisions in our nation's capital. The Supreme Court's 5-4 verdict on Obamacare was the biggest story for politicians, pundits and the so-called mainstream media. That the justices reaffirmed the constitutional authority of Congress to levy taxes — even when the tax is called a "mandate" — should not have surprised anyone. The second-place decision of the week was the unprecedented 255-67 vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his unwillingness to respond to congressional subpoenas for information on the Obama...

While it's now established law that the Fedgov can dictate to American citizens to purchase products/services they don't want OR suffer an additional tax, there was some curtailment to the ever over-reaching "commerce clause". That's a good thing. It's been abused for decades but this decision gives the States some leeway. As I see it, our only hope is that enough States get together and NULLIFY this tax/mandate decision. Then what would the current/future Executive Branch do? Send in the military to enforce against the States? Not likely. Even Obambi doesn't have the nerve to try that and force a...

    06/28/2012 6:03:28 PM PDT · by TurboZamboni · 24 replies
Mitt Romney just now called for immediate entire repeal of Obamacare. Even with a GOP House, GOP Senate, and GOP President, that will be hard, because Dems can and will filibuster a bill, and a 60-vote GOP majority is not in the cards any time soon. But repealing the individual mandate takes only 51 votes (50, if a Republican is the vice president). You see, Senators can’t filibuster a bill passed under “budget reconciliation.” Since Chief Justice John Roberts ruled today that Obama’s individual mandate is a tax, Republicans, it seems to me, could simply lower the tax for not...

WRITTEN IN ADVANCE OF THE DECISION. ADDRESSES HISTORY OF THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE. By Michael D. Peabody - Sometime this week the United States Supreme Court will decide whether the majority of provisions in the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act are constitutional. Called Obamacare, first by detractors and then by supporters reclaiming the phrase, it promises Americans a wide variety of health care benefits. Under provisions already in place, young people can stay on their parents’ health care insurance until age 26 and small businesses can claim a tax deduction for providing health insurance to their employees. Many conservatives...

Ronald Reagan made secret plans to loan Britain a U.S. warship if she lost an aircraft carrier during the Falklands War, it has emerged. The then-president was prepared to support Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher despite the U.S. being officially neutral during the 1982 conflict. The stunning revelation was made by John Lehman, the former U.S. Secretary of the Navy, to the U.S. Naval Institute on Tuesday. Mr Reagan would have loaned Britain the use of the amphibious warship USS Iwo Jima should harm have come to either HMS Invincible or HMS Hermes, which the Royal Navy had deployed to defend...
