Radio traffic about a Coast Guard training exercise Friday led to erroneous television news reports that guardsmen had fired on a recreational boat in the Potomac River, near where President Obama was remembering the 9/11 attacks, a senior Coast Guard official said. The news reports generated "uncertainty," said Vice Adm. John Currier, the Coast Guard chief of staff, that prompted federal and D.C. officials to respond anxiously. D.C. police raced to the riverside, and the Federal Aviation Administration temporarily grounded planes at Reagan National Airport, . Currier told reporters outside Coast Guard headquarters in Washington that no local, state or...

It's a lesson he should have learned from Plaxico Burress -- but this was worse. A 15-year-old Brooklyn boy shot himself in the penis Sunday after fumbling with a gun that had slid from his waistband, authorities said yesterday. Khamir Grant was then arrested for reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon -- the same charges levied against Burress, who shot himself at a Manhattan nightclub in 2008, law-enforcement sources said.

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – Many of the troops at this sprawling U.S. air base were in their mid-teens when they watched the planes hit the World Trade Center's twin towers on television and vowed to join the military. Eight years later, many of those who enlisted in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks are now part of a massive military effort in Afghanistan that some are saying has no clear exit. Remembrances of the attacks started at dawn Friday, with more than 1,000 service members donning shorts and sneakers to run exactly 9.11 kilometers (about 5.5 miles)...

Words, words, words In Uncategorized on September 10, 2009 at 9:21 pm Finally we have it. After months of empty rhetoric, after being careened through the depths of space and time and reality by our Commander-in-Chief and his spinster sidekick Robert Gibbs, we can finally claim a modest understanding of President Obama’s objectives for healthcare reform. As far as speeches go, the president earns high marks for turning a policy wonkish lecture on health reform into a soaring bit of oratorical brilliance. From the tragic stories of Americans lacking adequate coverage to Obama’s fiery vilification of the evil insurance industry...

There is a Marine in Southern Washington, Camas to be exact, who became famous because of YouTube and a sternly worded lecture at a Town Hall meeting. David Hedrick had the fortitude to bluntly call Representative Brian Baird to account on several issues. Health care, the teaching of our children, and the upholding of one’s oath to the Nation, were among the issues this brave Marine took Baird to task for.

WASHINGTON – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday she sees little support for sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan, forecasting a potential showdown with the Obama administration over how to win the war. Pelosi's comments put President Barack Obama in an uneasy position as he considers whether to side with his top commander in Afghanistan, who is expected in coming weeks to ask for more troops and other resources. She is the highest-ranking Democrat to signal that any White House or Pentagon push for more troops will be resisted in Congress. "I don't think there's a great deal of support...

9/11 is a day of mourning, remembrance, and prayer. It's not a national day of service this reeks of vile disrespect for those who perished on that tragic day.

Introduction: I have featured several stories now about Dr. Anna Chacko. It's difficult to provide a full explanation each and every time. So, if this is your first reading, I suggest you read this piece, and this piece. That said, here's a quick summary. Dr. Chacko is currently the head of radiology at the Pittsburgh VA. I have tracked her history and I believe that she has engaged in a reign of professional terror that spans at least two decades. She has reigned terror on the military, several VA hospitals, and several other hospitals. I have referred to her as...

Clarksville police said the oregano was a prop used in...

US scientists are a step closer to producing a new generation of energy conversion devices, thanks to an advance in liquid crystal (LC) technology.Antal Jákli, at Kent State University, and colleagues have made use of a property called flexoelectricity, where materials, such as LCs, convert mechanical energy into electrical energy when they are flexed. The LCE's volume swells by around a factor of two when it absorbs the bent-core LCs Bent-core nematics (BCNs) - LCs made from banana-shaped molecules - are particularly flexoelectric but because of their fluidity, they are not robust or flexible enough to use in energy conversion...

WASHINGTON (AP) - On his first 9/11 anniversary as president, Barack Obama urged Americans to come together in service just as they united after the terrorist attacks eight years ago. "We can summon once more that ordinary goodness of America, to serve our communities, to strengthen our country and to better our world," Obama said at a memorial at the Pentagon. Obama on Thursday declared the anniversary of the attacks a national day of remembrance and service. And he and first lady Michelle Obama led the way Friday, visiting a Habitat for Humanity construction site in Washington, where they pitched...

Pelosi agrees to plan to scold Rep. Wilson for 'You lie' outburst Speaker Nancy Pelosi has agreed the House should vote next week on scolding Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) for his outburst during President Barack Obama's speech unless he apologies on the floor of the House. "There was a violation of the rules of the House," said Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly. "It needs to be resolved by an apology or a resolution." A Democrat, likely House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), will introduce a "resolution of disapproval" Monday or Tuesday unless Wilson formally apologizes on the House floor. The House...

The climate bill has joined the weather as a hot topic of discussion down on the farm, and who wins the debate over whether a carbon cap will be a boon or a bust to rural America could help determine if Democrats pass a global warming bill this fall. The administration, seeking to build support for one of its highest priorities, has sought to ease farm fears over climate legislation. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, a former two-term Iowa governor, has talked up the House bill on his summer tour of small-town America, where he is promoting the White House’s ag...

Probably before President Golden Calf's government-run health (s)care pitch Wednesday night, few people outside his state knew who Rep. Joe Wilson was. But just hours before the South Carolina Congressman made national news by yelling "You lie!" to the president, the Great One Mark Levin was on the radio doing that very same thing. In the first hour of Wednesday evening's show, Levin read an advance copy of Obama's speech and broke it down lie after lie after lie after lie. By the time you are done listening to the following clips—and I'm impressed I managed to cut it down...
