Why do officials of the Republican Party continually align themselves with the views espoused by their ideological opponents? That is the question I mulled after hearing RNC chairman Michael Steele inveigh against prominent conservative spokesman Rush Limbaugh. Steele's comments were particularly injudicious in view of the fact that his criticism was straight out of the latest talking points memo of the Democratic Party. In an effort to silence conservative opposition to Obama's unprecedented expansion of the federal government, the Democratic Party has unleashed a concerted attack against one of its principal spokesmen. The two pronged attack, regurgitated dutifully by the...

March 4, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A newly published meta-analysis (a study comprised of data from numerous other research studies) has shown a strong link between induced abortion and subsequent pre-term births. Published in the February edition of the prestigious Journal of Reproductive Medicine, the study reviewed international data from 21 studies from 1995 to 2007 on preterm births related to induced abortion and spontaneous miscarriage. It concluded that "induced and spontaneous abortion are associated with similarly increased instances of preterm birth in subsequent pregnancies." The researchers found that prior induced abortions increased a woman's odds of having a preterm delivery...

Many in this country are looking for the “Second Coming” of Reagan. They can quit looking. There is a man with vast experience and the ideals of Ronald Reagan who is still ready to serve. After one of the debates last year he got a phone call from Michael Reagan who told him that he answered the questions just like his (Mike’s) dad (Ronald Reagan) would! That man is Duncan Hunter. Issue by issue you can look at his record to verify that he is the one true conservative on the horizon today. He knew Ronald Reagan, served WITH Ronald...

Democrats are taking a gamble. It's still almost two years until the next election. This is plenty of time to come out of recession. I remain optimistic that this will be the case. By the obscene spending now, Democrats achieve a few things. They reward consituencies, increase dependency on government, and consolidate their own political power, all while blaming everything on Bush and Republicans. If they had waited for a few months to do this, they would be taking more of the blame. They'll get away with it, too. Conservatives are helping out by lowering expectations with every hysterical cry...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Wednesday blamed soaring budget deficits partly on failure by the former Bush administration to make needed investments in energy security and healthcare. "We begin our time in office after a long period in which our government was unwilling to make the long-term investments required to meet critical challenges in health care, energy and education," he said in prepared remarks to the Senate Finance Committee. The Obama administration is projecting a deficit of $1.8 trillion, or 12.3 percent of gross domestic product, in fiscal 2009, which ends September 30. Geithner said $1.3...

Close Window March/April 2009 TR10: Traveling-Wave Reactor A new reactor design could make nuclear power safer and cheaper, says John Gilleland. By Matt Wald Enriching the uranium for reactor fuel and opening the reactor periodically to refuel it are among the most cumbersome and expensive steps in running a nuclear plant. And after spent fuel is removed from the reactor, reprocessing it to recover usable materials has the same drawbacks, plus two more: the risks of nuclear-weapons proliferation and environmental pollution. These problems are mostly accepted as a given, but not by a group of researchers at Intellectual Ventures, an...

I swear to God this has to be the most over exposed "new" president I've ever seen in my life. He parades himself in front of the camera's daily with the arrogance of some royal family member that oozes self entitlement and reminds me daily of how America wanted "his" change when the reality is that almost half of America didn't want "his" change. If I hear one more person suggest he is an eloquent speaker I'll hurl. All I see is a jaded man full of himself who could recite "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and the fools that...

Moroni 7:16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God. 17 But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do aevil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil;...

BLOOMFIELD, N.M. - New Mexico's education secretary has ordered a publicly funded home school to stop using curricula produced by A Beka Academy -- a conservative Christian publisher. The Family Home School, operated by the Bloomfield School District with parental involvement, is located in a portable classroom on the campus of a Bloomfield elementary school. The school's teacher, Kathy Harper, says she uses non-religious A Beka materials to teach math, phonics and language, and there have never been any complaints. But Education Secretary Veronica Garcia wrote a letter to Bloomfield's superintendent requiring that the home school "immediately cease using the...

George W. Bush had the misfortune to become president when two long-term trends that predated his presidency reached historical tipping points: First, decades of militant Islamic ferment culminated in 9/11. Second, a combination of a decades-long buildup of debt, reckless financial practices (abetted by government policies) established in the ‘90s, and habitual inflationary policies by the Federal Reserve System, finally culminated in the great financial panic of 2008. Twice, Bush reaped what he had not sown and, fairly or not, those historical events are what he will be remembered for. Of course, this is not to say he hasn’t made...

Just how close to the brink of executive tyranny did the United States come in the panic that swept George W. Bush's administration after 9/11? The answer, it now seems clear, is that we came far closer than even staunch critics of the White House believed. On Monday, the Obama administration released nine legal opinions produced for the Bush White House by the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel shortly after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. That heretofore obscure office essentially serves as the president's arbiter of what's legal and what isn't. Among other things,...

Here is a CNN report by Nic Robertson on the horrific atrocities being committed by the Sudanese Army against refugees in Sudan. Robertson talks with a former Sudanese Soldier who describes what he was ordered to do - including using rape against children as a method of torture and genocide. It is difficult to imagine the suffering of these refugees. In America we often take for granted just how abnormally good our lives are here when compared to so many across the world. If any place ever proved the complete impotence of the United Nations to deal with crimes against...

Gordon Brown has issued a call to America to take a lead in the world's battle against recession and climate change. Mr Brown believes that securing active US support is vital to his hopes of reaching agreement on a "global new deal" involving reform of international financial supervision, fiscal stimulus and bank restructuring at the G20 meeting of leading economies in London on April 2. In an upbeat message about the prospects of economic recovery, Mr Brown said, watched by his wife Sarah: "I believe that ours is a time for renewal, for a plan for tackling recession and building...

On the Monday morning following the Oscars, U.S. news websites splashed the announcement that the “little film that could,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” had garnered the Best Picture of 2008 award. Buried on many of the same web sites was the news that 48 children had been rescued from prostitution and several pimps arrested during the previous week in an FBI sting operation. The juxtaposition and implied importance of the two news stories was striking. “Slumdog Millionaire,” a film that has been widely heralded for providing a glimpse into poverty in India, also briefly shines a light on child slavery. Jamal and...

It is becoming painfully obvious that we may very well have a criminal President in 2009. No this isn’t a joke. What I speak of is the curious developments in the supposedly racist, biased, dumb, as well as insane case of where Obama was born. Why the Barack Obama Birth Certificate Issue Is Legitimate A strange development indeed is how it is that every time Barack Obama or a family member tells of where Obama was born, they seem to have no idea as of December 2008. They seemed to know what hospital quite a few times months ago when...

BERLIN (Reuters) - German police have launched a nationwide search of more than 200 homes and businesses of people suspected of belonging to the country's extreme right, the Federal Crime Office (BKA) said Wednesday. "The primary aim of the concerted action by crime fighting authorities is to seize and confiscate prohibited items like music in order to move effectively and extensively against the spread of right wing extremism," the BKA said in a statement.

An 18-month-old Sumter boy died Monday afternoon of starvation, authorities said. Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock said the autopsy results released Tuesday indicated the child died of starvation. He ruled the death a homicide. "In my opinion, there is no excuse for anybody to be living in the condition those five children were living in," Bullock said. "The conditions in the house were deplorable." The parents, Kevin DeWayne Isaac, 25, and Marketta Sharnise McCray, 23, of 132 Carolina Ave., were each charged with homicide by child abuse or neglect and unlawful conduct of a child. They were being held in...

Elaine Donnelly, President of the Center for Military Readiness, predicted today that efforts by liberals in Congress to repeal the 1993 law regarding homosexuals in the military would not succeed. “Members of Congress are starting to take this issue seriously,” she said. “Indications are that repeal of the 1993 law would hurt the ‘Three R’s,’ recruiting, retention, and overall readiness in the volunteer force.” On Monday Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-CA) announced that she will soon re-introduce legislation to repeal the 1993 law, Section 654, Title 10 click here , which is commonly mislabeled “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” In response, Donnelly...
