Still Looking For That One True Reagan Conservative?
Red Stater ^ | 2/28/09 | Red S. Tater

Many in this country are looking for the “Second Coming” of Reagan. They can quit looking. There is a man with vast experience and the ideals of Ronald Reagan who is still ready to serve. After one of the debates last year he got a phone call from Michael Reagan who told him that he answered the questions just like his (Mike’s) dad (Ronald Reagan) would! That man is Duncan Hunter.

Issue by issue you can look at his record to verify that he is the one true conservative on the horizon today. He knew Ronald Reagan, served WITH Ronald Reagan, was the driving force behind getting SDI passed which led to the downfall of the Soviet Union, served in Vietnam and has a son who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and has introduced legislation every year to grant personhood to the unborn thereby making Roe v Wade irrelevant, fought the ACLU and won to preserve a large cross at a military cemetary in CA, and is the ONLY person with a plan for fixing our trade deficit with China and the world.

“Inspirational leader” and the one best qualified to carry the “Reagan Torch" - Bob Smith NH Senator

“Duncan Hunter is a true social conservative and honestly represents the Republican Wing of the Republican Party,” stated Chris Brown, state President of the Missouri Republican Assembly

I LOVE Duncan Hunter. He is a real conservative. Hubby and I voted for him in our joke of a caucus.

Duncan was the first candidate that I made a contribution to, the second was Fred....What’s Congressman Hunter up to these days?

I voted for him for Prez in the general. Hadn’t felt that good about a vote since 1984.

He had little impact during his national campaign.

The press is great at marginalizing those that might be great. They are experts at side lining those they worry might actually be good for America, when they are Republicans.

I gotta say that I don’t see Duncan going very far when he’s such an unknown even in his own state. I think that if you’re digging for congressional Republicans in California for the executive stage, probably would be much better off pumping McClintock.

With all due respect — and I do have enormous respect for Duncan Hunter — I don’t want a congress critter as POTUS. The job is different than that of legislator.

I want someone who not only has the right ideology (which IS very important, I admit), but also knows how to “run stuff”.

Maybe he could do a term as Governor. Then he’d be an awesome choice.

That’s why we are going to be starting early this year and keeping his name on the front burner. Cheers.

The press is great at marginalizing those that might be great. They are experts at side lining those they worry might actually be good for America, when they are Republicans.

And at the forefront of that were some of our "friends" at Fox News. I admit that Hunter faced an uphill battle, but what irritated me was the diversion of so much conservative media and attention at a critical time to the aborted run of Fred Thompson that could have been focused on the less glitzy but more substantial candidacy of Hunter.

Duncan Hunter has a solid conservative record, but he ain't no Ronald Reagan. His impact in the last GOP primary process should have proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt. And before you start tearing into Fred Thompson, who I supported, it was obvious he too is no Ronald Reagan.

Among FReepers Fred was #1 and Hunter #2. Great.

Bottom line, no more RudyMcRombee's!... and no more Thompson's and no more Hunter's.

Conservatives need some fresh blood to lead us. New faces that can articulate the conservative agenda and response to Obama. That may or may not be Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, Mark Sanford or several others being talked up at this point. We shall see.

I supported both of them in the beginning ... as it was shaking out. Duncan had the record ... Thompson had good ability with handling the press and his ideas were sound ... republican values.

Unfortunately he was talked into running and did a half hearted attempt of it. A waste of time and effort. Not that I blame if his heart wasn’t in it.

Well, the good news for me is that I’m absolutely certain who is right for the job.
