On May 3, 2007, ten aspirants to the Republican presidential nomination kicked off the long campaign with a debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. The candidates disagreed about the issues and their respective qualifications--but each claimed Reagan's mantle. "I think it's important to remember," said Mike Huckabee, "that what Ronald Reagan did was to give us a vision for this country, a morning in America, a city on a hill." John McCain talked about Reagan's fiscal austerity: "Ronald Reagan used to say we spend money like a drunken sailor." Tommy Thompson threw in a stilted...

Happy Easter! Last week the subject theme for the photography thread was Sunrise, wherein someone suggested that sunrises are better than sunsets. That sounds like a challenge to me! Let's see if we can top the sunrise thread with some beautiful sunset shots. Please post your bestest sunset photos here - your own work, please.

AN URGENT MESSAGE TO NRA MEMBERS: ONE MORE PUSH TO END THE CLINTON GUN BAN With only five days to go before the September 13th expiration of the 1994 Clinton gun ban, anti-gun activists across the nation are making a last stand to re-enact this ineffective legislation. But now time is running out. Congress is only in session three more days before the sunset, and because time is short, anti-gunners will be redoubling their efforts to extend the ban. Originally enacted in 1994, the Clinton crime bill banned gun ownership by law-abiding citizens as the solution to violent crime. But...

The so-called assault-weapons ban is about to sunset. About time. It was one of the goofiest gun laws on the books. It outlawed guns because they look mean — the perfect law for a superficial world. The assault-weapons ban was racial profiling for guns. Before we start, you should know I used to be like you when it came to firearms. I had a religious-like hatred of guns. In fact, I was a member of the anti-gun organization Handgun Control Inc. It was a long slow, conversion for me, spurred by the patient influence of my older brother Paul, who...
