Only time will tell which polling methodology was correct, but Donald J. Trump is performing better than ever, especially in the Midwest. Kamala Harris isn’t breaking away like she needs to regarding countering the underestimated Trump vote. Joe Biden was ahead of Trump by several points in the waning weeks of the 2020 election and still just squeezed by; he only won Pennsylvania by 80,000 votes. It wasn’t necessarily a landslide. Trump only needed 46,000 votes to be re-elected in 2020, so Harris only being ahead by two to three points isn’t enough. With the latest slew of polling data,...

In his first-ever bid for political office, former actor Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California in 1966, defeating two-term incumbent Gov. Pat Brown in a landslide. There was good reason for Democrats to fear that a radical right-winger had taken control of what even then was the nation’s most populous state. The onetime New Deal Democrat had become a very conservative Republican who often echoed the conspiratorial complaints of the John Birch Society. He regularly warned that social welfare legislation such as Medicare and Medicaid (“socialized medicine” to Reagan) and civil rights laws were going to lead to the...

There’s a good chance former President Donald Trump will need the fireworks twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton planned to use in 2016 after a new poll shows his probability of defeating Vice President Kamala Harris has risen by ten points. A J.L. Partners election model is making a bold prediction ahead of the 2024 election. Its forecast found that Trump’s chances of securing enough votes to win in November have increased by four points since Monday and nine points since the presidential debate. The model considered the latest poll data, years' worth of election results, and economic indicators to calculate...

Cardinal Timothy Dolan slammed Kamala Harris' surprise move to skip the annual Al Smith dinner, while sending a warning about the last candidate who sat it out. The dinner benefitting Catholic Charities traditionally has been used to promote collegiality and good humor, with presidential candidates from both parties appearing on the same night and trading barbs. Donald Trump has attended the dinner in both 2016 and 2020, while Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden - albeit online - also attended when running for president. Dolan, the Archbishop of New York City, said he was 'disappointed' in Harris' decision to instead campaign...

As Twitchy readers know, Kamala Harris skipped the Al Smith dinner. Of note, she is the first presidential candidate to do so in 40 years (since Walter Mondale skipped in 1984) which is really not a great look for a candidate many people already don't like or trust. Chuck Schumer must know this because he tried smoothing things over with Cardinal Dolan about her missing the dinner. In other words, he gossiped about Kamala behind her back to make excuses for why she wasn't there. And gave up a bit too much info that Dolan was more than happy to...

The IRS agent union today endorsed Kamala Harris for President. “She supports the issues that matter most to our members,” said the IRS agent union president. No doubt. As Vice President, Harris cast the deciding vote to supersize the IRS, breaking the 50-50 Senate tie on the costly “Inflation Reduction Act” legislation. And the Harris-proposed tax increases will kill jobs in the private sector but create jobs for IRS agents. Agents certainly appreciate her call to make the IRS even larger and more powerful if she wins the presidency. Agents will be hired and deployed to implement the $5 trillion...

The shift of two major New York City suburbs to the political right could be a boon for former President Trump on Election Day, according to insiders on both sides of the aisle. Traditionally purple, if not leaning blue, Long Island’s Nassau and Suffolk counties went solidly red in the 2022 midterms even though state voter rolls show Democrats outnumber Republicans in both places. And that may be a bellwether of where things are headed in similar communities around the country

For most days in 2024 I repeated verbally and in print that “if the election were held today, Donald Trump would win.” That was while Joe Biden was his opponent. Now that Kamala Harris is in the race, things have changed dramatically. In very early 2022, I expressed in this column my confusion about why Kamala’s approval ratings were so low (‘From the Great Beyond, Spiro’s Laughing at Kamala’, TNH, Jan. 8, 2022). I wrote: “I don’t have a particular problem with Kamala…when I think of how Kamala is compared to Hillary Clinton in terms of unlikability, I don’t think...

MILWAUKEE — When the Republicans put the final gavel to the wreckage of their convention in Cleveland eight years ago, they were in a state of nuclear meltdown.Yes, they had a nominee in reality television star Donald Trump. But the party itself was a collection of warring factions that agreed on little by way of principles, beyond their collective desire to keep Hillary Clinton out of the White House. Strategist David Urban, who helped organize the 2016 convention for Trump, recalls that the floor of Quicken Loans Arena felt like “enemy territory.” Tensions were thick between Trump’s campaign and the...

Former President Donald Trump is putting American workers first— unlike the incumbent leader in the White House now. Trump discussed the proposal of eliminating taxes on servers' tips in his pitch for a new policy position that could inch him closer to victory in November. The former president introduced the idea during a rally in Nevada over the weekend where many Americans work at hotels, restaurants, and in the entertainment business and rely on tips to make ends meet. “This is the first time I've said this and for those hotel workers and people that get tips, you're going to...

Joe Biden has recently appeared to focus many of his policy decisions involving everything from marijuana policy to the war in Gaza based on how he believes it might help him with voters in Michigan, particularly Black voters. But if the results of the latest polling out of the Great Lakes State are anywhere near accurate, Uncle Joe may want to spend a bit more time out among the people and not at glitzy, high-dollar celebrity fundraisers. A USA Today/Suffolk poll reveals that barely half of Black Michigan likely voters (54%) support Joe Biden currently. That doesn't automatically translate into...

A Republican presidential challenger campaigning in the South Bronx against an inflation-ridden and unpopular Democratic incumbent. I’ve seen this show before. It was August 5, 1980, when Ronald Reagan, the GOP nominee against President Jimmy Carter, traveled to the troubled borough of New York City to deliver his message of “Make America Great Again.” It was, for sure, a raucous scene, plenty of Bronx cheering. Relying on a microphone to make himself heard, Reagan shouted, “I can’t do a damned thing for you if I don’t get elected!”
