The “Dry Alabama” Facebook page, illustrated with stark images of car wrecks and videos of families ruined by drink, had a blunt message: Alcohol is the devil’s work, and the state should ban it entirely. Along with a companion Twitter feed, the Facebook page appeared to be the work of Baptist teetotalers who supported the Republican, Roy S. Moore, in the 2017 Alabama Senate race. “Pray for Roy Moore,” one tweet exhorted. In fact, the Dry Alabama campaign, not previously reported, was the stealth creation of progressive Democrats who were out to defeat Mr. Moore — the second such secret...

It's a little over 30 years ago that Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off a bat in front of a live audience. Now it appears the little animals have had their revenge. They could have scuppered his plans to convert a historic barn on his £5million estate into a two-bedroom home. The former Black Sabbath singer’s representatives are understood to have met planning officers to discuss redevelopment of the 19th century building. But brown long-eared bats have been discovered in the building. Osbourne, now 65, bit the head off a bat while performing in America in 1982. He was said...

This stinks to Heaven ... Please explain the Flip-flop in light of Matt Kilbbe’s previous words ... FreedomWorks: Sasse “Supports The Basic Principles Of Obamacare”: “But there’s a problem. Mr. Sasse, a wealthy former business management consultant with a long list of health industry clients, is positioning himself as a staunchly ‘anti-Obamacare’ candidate; but that doesn’t square with his past record, a careful review of which reveals four things: 1. He supports the basic principles of Obamacare, if not all the details. 2. While Obamacare was being drafted, he offered its authors advice on how to improve it. 3. After...

Virginia 2011 Independent Candidate for Legislature has Big Impact on 2012 Presidential Primary December 25th, 2011 There are currently many news stories and blog discussions about the Virginia presidential primary ballot access law. Some large blogs, such as Red State, have over 300 comments about the story. Some defend the current Virginia ballot access laws on the grounds that in past presidential elections, a fairly large number of Republican presidential primary candidates managed to qualify. But what has not been reported is that in the only other presidential primaries in which Virginia required 10,000 signatures (2000, 2004, and 2008) the...

George Osborne Plans Biggest Public Spending Cuts For 30 Years A new era of austerity would be ushered in by a Conservative victory in the general election after George Osborne announced the biggest cuts in public spending for 30 years. By Andrew Porter and Robert Winnett 06 Oct 2009 The shadow chancellor set out a detailed range of cuts, including a one-year pay freeze for five million public sector workers, which, he said, would save the taxpayer £23 billion over the next five years. The scale of the Tory plans to tackle the record budget deficit built up by Labour...

SUN readers will be saddled with crippling debt by Gordon Brown’s “borrowing bombshell”, George Osborne warned last night. The shadow chancellor forecast millions will be paying off the nation’s credit card for GENERATIONS to come. The Premier has vowed to borrow billions for tax cuts to kick-start the economy. But Mr Osborne said the plan was a “con” — and branded the PM “Mr Three Card Trick”. He calculated a £15billion giveaway would cost an extra 4p on income tax or £599-a-year on the average tax bill. It would mean £1.65 on a pint of beer or VAT at 20.5...

A female police officer punched another woman in a supermarket after her boyfriend was accused of eyeing the stranger up, a court heard. PC Carla Street was said to have 'gone mad' in the Asda frozen food section as she struck Kelly Osborne. The fight broke out following a heated argument between the partners of the two women. After being arrested, the officer admitted slapping the woman in the face but only as a 'pre-emptive strike'. Miss Osborne, 28, said she was shopping with her partner and son of two when she noticed Lee Gregory, 28, 'looking her up and...

Running on an anti-tax theme in a heavily Republican district is seldom a bad idea — a tenet borne out by state Sen. Adrian Smith’s victory Tuesday in the GOP primary for Nebraska’s open 3rd District seat. Smith’s win appears to put him on the fast track to fill the House seat left open by three-term Republican Rep. Tom Osborne, who fell short in his primary challenge to Republican Gov. Dave Heineman. While Democratic officials say they will fight for the open seat, the Republican nominee normally enjoys the initiative in a sprawling, heavily rural district that gave President Bush...

WASHINGTON -- President Bush signed a law Friday establishing tougher penalties for unethical sports agents. The bill stiffens penalties for agents who lure student-athletes into contracts that compromise their amateur standing and damage the reputations of their schools. The legislation, which passed by voice vote in the Senate earlier this month, was promoted by Rep. Tom Osborne, R-Neb., a former Nebraska football coach. Osborne said he has seen sports agents illegally use cash and gifts to recruit student-athletes. The NCAA has rules, and some states have standards, for sports agents, but Rep. Bart Gordon, D-Tenn., principal author of the bill,...

"Rewarding Murder" Posted by Doc Farmer Saturday, July 19, 2003 About 20 years ago, there was a vicious triple murder in my hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana. A man, his wife, and their 11-year-old son were brutally bludgeoned to death one weekend in their own home. When the man didn’t arrive at work on Monday morning, his co-workers got worried, went to his home, and found the bodies. And they found wandering among the corpses the only survivor--a toddler, barely two years old. The little girl had been alone for two days with her murdered family. The police investigated, the...
