WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The author of “Little Women” may have been even more productive and sensational than previously thought. Max Chapnick, a postdoctoral teaching associate at Northeastern University, believes he found about 20 stories and poems written by Louisa May Alcott under her own name as well as pseudonyms for local newspapers in Massachusetts in the late 1850s and early 1860s. One of the pseudonyms is believed to be E. H. Gould, including a story about her house in Concord, Massachusetts, and a ghost story along the lines of the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol.” He also found...

One person was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after a package delivered to a building at Northeastern University exploded when it was opened, school officials confirmed. A second package was also found and rendered safe by the bomb squad, Boston police confirmed at a news conference Tuesday night. Northeastern University said the package was delivered to Holmes Hall on Leon Street around 7 p.m. and detonated when a staff member opened it. That person, a 45-year-old man, suffered minor hand injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Eleven students were suspended from Northeastern University for the rest of the fall semester after staff members found them congregated in a temporary dorm room at the Westin Hotel in Boston. According to the Boston Globe, the students’ $36,500 tuition and housing charges will not be refunded due to the policies of a “first-year international experience” program called N.U.in. Northeastern has dismissed 11 first-year students after they gathered together inviolation of university andpublic health protocols that prohibit crowded gatherings. https://t.co/4bSTi9AejF— Northeastern U. Does 11 people hanging out count as a “party?” Northeastern University dismissed 11 students Friday after they held a small party in a hotel room Wednesday, the school announced in a press release. The 11 students “are no longer part of the Northeastern community for the fall semester.” All 11 kids were first-years and part of a special one-semester program that cost $36,500, the Boston Globe reported. Northeastern is not refunding their money. The students were enrolled in a study abroad program, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, “abroad” became the Westin Hotel in downtown Boston, about a mile from...

In light of Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the highest court in this country, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations and others’ must be taken seriously — their stories do have influence. Thus, it is even more important we evaluate what is defined as sexual violence. On March 29, Lucy Flores published an article describing her encounter with Biden: “He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head.” In response to Flores’ piece, Tarana Burke, the founder of the #MeToo movement, tweeted that his actions were “disrespectful and inexcusable,” emphasizing that Flores’ experience was worth bringing...

It’s not that Eric Schneiderman (the now-former New York attorney general accused of abuse by multiple women) pushed me over the edge. My edge has been crossed for a long time, before President Trump, before Harvey Weinstein, before “mansplaining” and “incels.” Before live-streaming sexual assaults and red pill men’s groups and rape camps as a tool of war and the deadening banality of male prerogative. Seen in this indisputably true context, it seems logical to hate men. I can’t lie, I’ve always had a soft spot for the radical feminist smackdown, for naming the problem in no uncertain terms. I’ve...

A professor at Northeastern University in Boston is under fire after he was recorded during a public lecture saying he “wouldn’t mind” seeing President Trump dead. “Sometimes I want to just see him impeached. Other times, quite honestly — I hope there are no FBI agents here — I wouldn’t mind seeing him dead,” Barry Bluestone, a professor of political economy, said during a Jan. 31 public event called “The Rule of Law in a Time of Polarization,” Campus Reform first reported.

A college student who miraculously survived the Boston bombing — and was featured in an iconic rescue photo from the tragedy — died in a car crash in Dubai, her mom said Monday. We are stunned, shocked and heartbroken,” Jill McGrath, mother of Victoria McGrath, told NBC in an email. The beautiful 23-year-old Northeastern student, a native of Weston, Connecticut, was in a car with fellow student Priscilla Perez Torres during the fatal accident, according to a spokeswoman for the university.

In a way, Rachel Dolezal is a living embodiment of racial progress. In the 1961 book, Black Like Me, white journalist John Howard Griffin pretended to be black in order to show the indignities blacks endure. This year, we learned that Rachel Dolezal pretended to be black in order to obtain affirmative action benefits. Writer Dan Flynn, my predecessor at Accuracy in Academia, summarizes the Dolezal story nicely: “Before re-emerging as an Africana studies adjunct professor, NAACP chapter leader, Historically Black College graduate, and all-around Nubian princess, Dolezal grew up as a blue-eyed blonde on the mean streets of Troy,...

Men who open doors for women are as guilty of sexism as those who are rude to them, according to a new study. Psychologists found that a friendly or chivalrous attitude can mask chauvinistic and patronizing views because the men see females as weak creatures in need of their protection. They warned that this “benevolent sexism” was harder to spot than the hostile version borne out of an open antipathy. Jin Goh, a psychologist from Northeastern University, Boston, in the U.S., said: “While many people are sensitive to sexist verbal offences, they may not readily associate sexism with warmth and...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: There was something in the New York Times Magazine over the weekend. This has, within its own universe, created a firestorm. It's about hooking up in college. I have the headline right here. Let me see the second page here. "Sex on Campus: She Can Play That Game, Too." This is a long piece. It's like 4,000 words, this New York Times Magazine piece. It's a long piece on how there isn't any dating anymore, as you and I understand it. It's just no-emotion sexual hookups, and they are perfunctory at that. Not any attachment whatsoever. It's...

Americans for Peace and Tolerance (APT) today released a 30 minute video showing how Northeastern Professor Denis Sullivan and other Northeastern faculty abuse academic freedom to promote anti-Israel lies and anti-Semitism as defined by the U.S. State Department. Sullivan is a tenured professor and director of the Northeastern Middle East Center for Peace, Culture and Development. The video examines Professor Sullivan's lectures, invited guests, reading lists and student trips to the Middle East, all of which seem designed to provide students with a one-sided view of the Arab-Israeli conflict. "It seems clear that Professor Sullivan has built his department to...

"Why would anyone want to give money to Northeastern University?" asks Holocaust survivor Helga Lustig. That's a question that many donors and parents may be asking, after watching a chilling new video that documents Northeastern's institutional anti-Semitism and its vicious attacks on survivors of Nazi genocide. Located in Boston, Northeastern is one of the country's largest private universities, and was recently ranked by Forbes as America's fourth-most entrepreneurial academy. Well, it's certainly entrepreneurial at taking money from well-meaning Jewish donors and then smugly using their funds to defame the Jewish people. In December 2010, Steven Stotsky wrote an article in...

A 26-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested and charged today in connection with a plot to attack the Pentagon and the Capitol, the Justice Department announced.  Rezwan Ferdaus, a U.S. citizen, is accused of planning to use a remote-controlled aircraft filled with explosives to attack the buildings. He was also charged with attempting to provide support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization — specifically al-Qaida, the organization behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I know what you're thinking, PC police: "That's unfair, you Islamophobe!  Just because his name is Rezwan doesn't mean he's a Muslim, or that his planned attacks were...

New York, NY (AHN) - A university study is raising eyebrows after researchers disclosed they secretly tracked the movement of 100,000 cell phone users outside the United States. Researchers at Northeastern University for six months sifted through data from cell phone towers allowing them to track the movement of mobile phone users in what they only describe as an "industrialized country." Such research, which included the cooperation from an unknown company, would be illegal in the U.S., an FCC spokesman told the AP. The study, to be published Thursday in Nature, found most people stick close to home, despite the...

NEW YORK - The city opened nearly 300 cooling centers Monday as temperatures across much of the Northeast surpassed 90 degrees — the hottest in the metropolitan area since a heat wave last year that was blamed for 40 deaths. Extra utility crews were on hand in case of power outages, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg urged residents to help prevent blackouts by conserving power. He urged New Yorkers not to exert themselves in the sweltering conditions. "It is very hot," Bloomberg said. "I don't care how good a runner you are, I don't care how strong you are, you should...

Last year, members of the Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer based at Northeastern University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology demonstrated that acid-sensitive polymer nanoparticles could boost the delivery of anticancer drugs into the acidic interior of tumors. Now, that same group of investigators has shown that these nanoparticles are effective at suppressing tumor growth when tested in an animal model of human ovarian cancer. In addition, animals treated with this nanoparticle formulation do not appear to experience adverse side effects that often limit the ability of patients to tolerate chemotherapy. The researchers reported the results of their preclinical work...
