Lucas comes out of retirement to run for Congress again BRUCE SCHREINER Associated Press FRANKFORT, Ky. - Former Rep. Ken Lucas came out of political retirement today to challenge freshman Rep. GOP Could Pick Up 5 House Seats by John Gizzi Posted Oct 22, 2004 With a week to go before Americans vote in all 435 congressional districts, Republicans look poised to expand their majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, based largely on favorable redistricting since the 2000 census. In the swing states of Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, Republicans managed to dominate the redistricting process after the census, raising the number of safe Republican seats there. In Texas, a masterful (if controversial and belated) redistricting is now almost certain to yield the bulk of national Republican gains in this election...

Your voice: George Clooney It's recently been brought to my attention that my father, Nick Clooney, has been running for Congress from the 4th District of Kentucky. Although he told me, I didn't really believe him until I started reading all the stories about myself in the paper. It seems the best way to campaign against my father is to go after me. The head of the Kentucky 4th District GOP, Marcus Carey, is quoted in the Enquirer as saying that because of me, my father and I will "go down with my ship" - a reference to a film...

George Clooney has a lot riding on a Kentucky derby this year - the horse race for the congressional seat in the state's fourth district. George's father, Nick, a former TV-news anchorman, is the Democratic candidate for the seat, and he's been getting a lot of help from his famous son. Earlier this month, the "Ocean's 11" heartthrob raised $200,000 for his dad's campaign at his home in Studio City, Calif., after jokingly promising that he would put on a toga and wash the car of everybody who contributed $500. And just last weekend, George got on a private jet...

By BRUCE SCHREINER The Associated Press 1/3/2004, 12:48 p.m. ET BEDFORD, Ky. (AP) — Political newcomer Nick Clooney needed no introduction as he shook hands with people hunched over steaming breakfast plates at the Farmhouse restaurant. "I knew him since I walked in the door, and I had never met him before," said Richard Ginn, a real estate appraiser and tobacco farmer. The 69-year-old congressional candidate has instant recognition in northern Kentucky from his days as a Cincinnati television news anchor. He criticizes Bush, a district favoriteResidents of Kentucky's 4th Congressional District are used to having U.S. Rep. Ken Lucas support President Bush - even though Lucas is a Democrat. So how will the voters react to comments like this on the war in Iraq from Democrat Nick Clooney, the media personality from Augusta who unexpectedly jumped Monday into the 2004 congressional race? "We sent 300,000 of our best and brightest (soldiers) on a snipe hunt," said Clooney, who opposes the military action in Iraq. Such words are in stark contrast to Lucas' remarks. He's a staunch supporter of Bush's military...
