Judge Dad, not me, in run for Congress
National Enquirer ^ | 4/13/04 | George Clooney

Posted on 04/13/2004 6:14:18 PM PDT by NotchJohnson

Your voice: George Clooney

It's recently been brought to my attention that my father, Nick Clooney, has been running for Congress from the 4th District of Kentucky. Although he told me, I didn't really believe him until I started reading all the stories about myself in the paper.

It seems the best way to campaign against my father is to go after me. The head of the Kentucky 4th District GOP, Marcus Carey, is quoted in the Enquirer as saying that because of me, my father and I will "go down with my ship" - a reference to a film I made called The Perfect Storm.

I have two quick thoughts. First, it's probably not the best idea to use an actual event where six fishermen lost their lives as a lighthearted metaphor to hammer away at yours truly. For future insults, let me see if I can help.

It should go something like this: Batman and his father are gonna be taught The Facts of Life about Kentucky politics. The Peacemaker and his old man have been campaigning From Dusk Till Dawn to prove that a deficit that's Out of Sight can hurt your paycheck. O Brother, next they'll tell us that it would be Intolerable Cruelty to send patients away if they can't afford services in the E.R.

See? No references to any actual event where people died, yet filled with vim and vigor and a little zest. So, Mr. Carey, you have that one.

The second point I want to make is this: My father has dedicated 50 years to living and working in your community. Anyone who knows him (and that's a lot of Kentuckians) knows that he is his own man and always has been. Politically, my father and I certainly disagree on some issues. But what we don't disagree on is this: We should be judged as a country by how we take care of those who can't take care of themselves. Senior citizens, veterans, the poor, the uninsured ... this list goes on.

After 50 years, my father has earned the right to be judged on his own merits, and they are many; on his own political beliefs, and they are well-documented; and on his own strength of character, which is unquestionable.

Nick Clooney is a grown man and he can take his own hits ... but it'll be One Fine Day before he should take mine too.

Gee, I guess it's okay to tar the son with the misdeeds of the father; but, the father shouldn't be associated with the son he raised?

Guess it makes a difference whether you name is Mel or George, as to which way the wind blows.

There's an old saying that the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree, George.

That pretty much covers it.

Batman's father is dead, murdered by a street criminal.
I find George Clooney's lack of sensitivity to be highly offensive!

Translation: I'm a socialist, and so is my father. But don't tell Dad I said that.

"Nick Clooney" is an unfortunate name, kinda like "Jack Sass".

We should be judged as a country by how we take care of those who can't take care of themselves.

Does that only go for taking care of American citizens?

Or does Clooney exclude Iraqis from that group of those who are put on and cannot "take care" of themselves because of tyranny.

Or is Clooney against offering government assistance to illegal immigrants? Most who defend the social safety net do not exclude illegal visitors from receiving aid.

Yadda yadda yadda, Mr. Clooney. That's your opinion.
But it becomes my problem when you and other liberal Democrats decide to walk into the polling place and cast your cowardly votes for big government to confiscate more of MY money (under threat of jail and loss of home and business) just so your scumbag Democrat politicans can increase their vote-buying power and you can feel good about your "generosity". (O Brother, it sure is easy to be generous with your neighbors' money.)

Go ahead and feed the poor or do whatever you want with your own money. As a charitable fellow myself, I'll help out my family, friends, and neighbors when they need help and I'll do it on my own terms. But you and your old man can keep away from me and my family. Take a hike.

The same George Clooney who beat his wife to a bloody pulp?... that George Clooney?

Are you saying this is fact or are you playing the, "when did you stop beating your wife?" game?

I am curious as I have never heard allegations of spousal abuse regarding George Clooney before.

My wife just told me I've confused him with Alec Baldwin who almost cost Kim Basinger one of her eyes.

Thanks for the correction. Spousal abuse is a pretty heavy charge to throw out there. If untrue, I'd hate for an internet rumor of this passed around about anyone. Not that George Clooney has not shown his ass with very inappropriate public comments about others before. Particularly regarding Charlton Heston's alzheimer's disease.
