Clooney skips chance to meet with Kerry
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Stephenie Steitzer Post staff reporter
Northern Kentucky Democratic congressional candidate Nick Clooney won't be vying for a photo op with Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry during his visit today to Cincinnati. In contrast to Clooney's opponent, Republican Geoff Davis, who scored a chance to briefly board Air Force One Monday to meet President George W. Bush, Clooney will continue campaigning in the 4th District.
Clooney campaign spokesman B.J. Neidhardt would not comment, but the campaign has said in the past that Clooney can stand on his own two feet and doesn't need the help of national party figures to win the race.
Augusta native Clooney skipped the chance to meet party bigwigs last month at the Democratic National Convention, even as other Democratic hopefuls went to Boston looking for help.
Clooney himself has said the most important thing for him is to get out in the district and talk to voters.
Neidhardt said Clooney would be in Nicholas County tonight.
Republicans have charged that Clooney is trying to distance himself from Democratic liberals.
"Nick Clooney is running away from his party and his presidential candidate even though he has been a Bush-basher at every turn and even though he has endorsed Kerry and Edwards," Davis campaign spokesman Justin Brasell said.

Translated, The Frenchman is radioactive.
Kentucky is a state trending Republican. Its not a good idea for Clooney to appear with Kerry in public in a state that will definitely go for Bush in November.
Ah, but George Clooney has promised to personally wink at every blue-haired old lady who pulls the lever for Nicky.
Bingo.
Clooney is running a stealth campaign, hoping that name recognition alone carries him when voters go into the booth. He thinks there are enough disengaged people who will say "oh, he's running? I liked him when he was a news anchor," and put him over the top.
Hence the distance from Kerry. Clooney is if anything to the left of JFK. If the voters know what Clooeny believes, they would never vote for him.
PING!... thx :))
This is a good one. Guess his idiot son gets rejected by Nick as well. Kinda like 'ol Jimmy Carter and those pics of he and Rosaly with John Wayne Gacey! Looks like Kerry is radioactive, or fast becoming such.
any early polling numbers?
Early polling had Clooney leading, I believe; haven't seen recent.
