Lexi Thompson’s history with the U.S. Women’s Open began as a prodigious 12-year-old when she became the youngest to ever compete in the championship in 2007. Though she’s never won this event, it seems fitting that she makes a big life announcement at this event. In the lead-up to the 79th U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club, Thompson announced her retirement on the USGA’s website. The 29-year-old plans to play out the rest of the 2024 season. A golfer who is bidding to become the first transgender woman to earn a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour card has sparked outrage online. Hailey Davidson, 29, had a strong finish in the first two rounds of the first stage of the LPGA and Epson Tour Qualifying School in Palm Springs this week. But after DailyMail.com and other outlets reported on her efforts Friday, many questioned whether Davidson's inclusion was fair. That is because athletes who undergo male puberty before transitioning are widely-believed to retain strength advantages - including how far they can hit a golf ball. The mother...

SiriusXM PGA Tour host Mark Lye made inappropriate comments about the WNBA on the air Saturday and was fired by the end of the weekend. “You know the LPGA Tour, to me, is a completely different tour than it was 10 years ago,” Lye said Saturday on PGA Tour Radio. “You couldn’t pay me to watch. You really couldn’t, because I couldn’t relate at all. It’s kind of like, if you were a basketball player, and I’m not trashing anybody, please don’t take it the wrong way. “I saw some highlights of ladies’ basketball. Man. Is there a gun in...

Where does Rachel Maddow’s feminist solidarity end? When a woman has the audacity to support a Republican . . . On MSNBC, commenting on tonight’s RNC, Maddow twice mocked speaker Natalie Gulbis, a professional golfer, for her current modest world ranking of about 500. In doing so, Maddow ignored the fact that Gulbis is a former #6 on the LPGA money list, has won four professional tournaments and at one point placed in the top 10 in four consecutive major championships. If Tiger Woods spoke for Trump, I suppose Maddow would dismiss him as “the 628th golfer in the world”...

PINEHURST - While her caddie finished scribbling notes before she could tee off on Pinehurst No.2's 15th hole Tuesday during a practice round, Lucy Li plopped down in the shade next to the tee box. Li could have been any 11-year-old then, sitting cross-legged in the shade with her polkadot skirt, sequined-sleeved top and pigtails. But when she stood up and drilled a tee shot 150 yards to stick the ball on the par-3 hole's green, it was obvious that Li is no ordinary tween. The Red Shores, California, native is the youngest U.S. Open Women's qualifier in history, shooting...
