The Biden administration’s legal justification for its attacks on Houthi militants in Yemen is “laughable,” Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said at a Senate Foreign Relations committee hearing Tuesday on United States actions in the Red Sea. Speaking to defense officials, Kaine said though “Houthi behavior is abhorrent,” he has “grave skepticism” about the administration’s interpretation of presidential military powers under Article 2 of the Constitution. “A narrow mission to defend U.S. shipping, both military and commercial — that is Article 2 self-defense,” Kaine said. “Article 2 self-defense means you can defend U.S. personnel, you can defend U.S. military assets, you...

When I was looking desperately for a number of years two decades ago for voices that intelligently and courageously spoke up against the militarist excesses of Bush 2, I was astonished and delighted by what I found on The American Right - Congressman Ron Paul and Patrick Joseph Buchanan. IMHO there is nothing short on film from Buchannan to match the magnificence and power of Paul's "what if" speech. But the longer culture wars speech on youtube is for me an almost sacred text which I watch once or twice a year to restore my faith in truth. My own...

A quarter of all independent expenditures in the 2024 election cycle, $20.2 million, has targeted Gov. Ron DeSantis, more than has been spent in either positive or negative independent expenditures for former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden combined. Trump, the Republican front-runner, was hit with just $8.1 million of negative independent expenditures directed toward him, according to data compiled by Republican consultant Rob Pyers. Biden, the incumbent president and front-runner for the 2024 Democratic nomination, was attacked with $9.2 million of independent expenditures. “The top folks in polling always attract the most negative advertising. However, few Republican candidates...

President Donald Trump took his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to a new level Wednesday, as a super PAC linked to the 76-year-old accused his would-be rival of ethics violations tied to what it calls DeSantis’ “shadow presidential campaign.” A draft of the 15-page letter by Make America Great Again Inc. calls on the Florida Commission on Ethics to investigate DeSantis, alleging that the 44-year-old has violated a slew of state statutes as well as federal campaign finance laws. The complaint refers to DeSantis as a “de facto candidate for president” and claims that the governor is “leveraging his...

(No search results) Several top conservatives are warning that if House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy, the Republican nominee for Speaker of the House, does not win the speakership election on the floor of the House on Jan. 3, 2023, a “doomsday scenario” could emerge where Democrats undercut GOP power. In such a scenario, concerns are rising that so-called moderate—or establishment Republicans—are willing to band together to make a deal with the Democrats to elect a moderate Republican as speaker with Democrat votes in exchange for a House rules change that hands the incoming Democrat minority significant power over how subpoenas...

President Donald Trump wants Americans to think he re-invented Christmas. “We can say merry Christmas again,” he has said on numerous occasions both during his campaign for president and his presidency. “Christmas is back, better and bigger than ever before,” he told supporters months before the Christmas season. [snip] But critics counter that Trump is promoting a version of the holidays that excludes members of other religions, and that his crusade to bring back Christmas is part of a larger attempt by the president to define America as a country for white Christians alone. Wishing people “merry Christmas” instead of “happy holidays,”...

Let’s be honest, the Middle-East has been a complete disaster for longer than most of us can imagine. Once the US firmly planted itself in the Middle-East in 2001, the destabilization of an already volatile region really started to pick up steam. With five out of the top 10 oil producing countries located in the Middle-East, sometimes these conflicts can have extremely negative consequences for oil consumers (pretty much everyone). The price of almost every product on the market increases as the price of oil goes up. When the price of oil goes up, it costs more for companies to...

WASHINGTON — A fifth woman accused Roy S. Moore, the Republican Senate candidate in Alabama, on Monday of making sexual or romantic advances toward her when she was a teenager, as senior Republicans in Washington called for him to drop out of the race. The new accuser, Beverly Young Nelson, told a news conference in New York that Mr. Moore attacked her when she was 16 and he was a prosecutor in Etowah County, Ala. Ms. Nelson was represented at the news conference by Gloria Allred, a New York lawyer who has championed victims of sexual harassment. “I tried fighting...

There is a parallel between the core basics of survival and those things that nature takes from us in one of these powerful hurricanes. When I think of survival and the very basics, there is shelter, water, food and fire. As the powerful winds and punishing rains of Hurricane Harvey approached Texas people were most concerned with these survival basics. It was immediately apparent that there were many people unprepared to deal with the aftermath of this storm. Most resources were gobbled up in storm prep and no one really knew when trucks would return to Houston to restock shelves....

Multiple Excerpts: With more and more videos coming out that appear to document the 'multiple shooter' theory while Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo claims its likely that at somewhere along the line, Stephen Paddock probably had some help, we take a look within this ANP story at an emerging theory that continues to pile up evidence - Stephen Paddock may have been an arms dealer working for a shadowy 'deep state' US government agency. Along with taking a look at several emerging warnings that he may have been selling weapons to ISIS terrorists within the United States. We also take...

Don’t tell anyone, but American conservatives will soon be embracing single-payer healthcare, or some other form of socialized healthcare. Yes, that’s a bold claim given that a GOP-controlled Congress and President are poised to un-socialize a great deal of healthcare, and may even pull it off. But within five years, plenty of Republicans will be loudly supporting or quietly assenting to universal Medicare. And that’s a good thing, because socializing healthcare is the only demonstrably effective way to control costs and cover everyone. It results in a healthier country and it saves a ton of money. That may seem offensively...

Video ay link. President Obama said in an interview broadcast Sunday morning that his inability to reduce polarization between the political parties in Washington "gnaws" on him as he settles into his final year in office. "The one thing that gnaws on me-- is the degree of-- continued polarization," he said during an interview broadcast on "CBS Sunday Morning." "It's gotten worse-- over the last several years," Obama continued. "And I think that in those early months my expectation was is that-- we could pull-- the parties together a little more effectively." Obama campaigned in 2008 on a platform of...

And if Marian was willing to admit publicly in 2004 that she was not happy with Barack having a white mother, we can only surmise that Craig and Michelle must have gotten an earful about white people behind the closed doors of the Robinson home. After the release of the WTTW video, the question is: what kind of racist messages did the siblings hear from Mother Robinson while growing up?

Following pointed criticism from President Barack Obama for shelving “The Interview,” Sony Pictures Entertainment on Friday defended its decision, claiming it had no choice but to cancel the film’s Christmas Day theatrical release. Obama said during a press conference Friday that Sony “made a mistake” in dropping “The Interview.” However, the studio fired back, saying the cancellation happened only because the country’s top theater chains pulled out. “This was their decision,” Sony said in a statement.

....When Ramos asked Obama if it’s his “responsibility” to improve race relations and address “white privilege” in the United States, the president argued race relations have improved dramatically over the decades — even some in the time that he’s been in office. He never did specifically address the “white privilege” portion of the loaded question. ..... I don’t think were living in the 50s and remembering what it was like to be black or Hispanic and interacting with the police then,” Obama added. “There has been improvement, the question is: What more do we need to do?”

Far right wing extremists have been emboldened by the standoff earlier this year between Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the federal government, according to a study released Thursday by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The report, entitled "War in the West" examines the conflict between the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and militiamen who supported Bundy, who owed more than $1 million in grazing fees and fines to the government, despite insisting that he had "preemptive rights" to let his cattle graze on the federally owned land.
