Conditions such as diabetes, heart attack, and vascular diseases commonly diagnosed in people with spinal cord injuries can be traced to abnormal post-injury neuronal activity that causes abdominal fat tissue compounds to leak and pool in the liver and other organs, a new animal study has found. Researchers found that a short course of the drug gabapentin prevented the damaging metabolic effects of spinal cord injury. Experiments revealed a cascade of abnormal activity within seven days after the injury in neurons and in visceral fat tissue. "As soon as we disrupt sensory processing as a result of spinal cord injury,...

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released previously hidden reports of facial paralysis and other adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination. The 780,000 reports were received shortly after the COVID-19 vaccines were rolled out, and show people experienced a wide range of post-vaccination problems, including heart inflammation, miscarriages, and seizures.“Loss of consciousness and seizure immediately following injection. Went to ER by ambulance,” one person reported.“Diagnosed with Bells Palsy today due to left-sided facial numbness and paralysis,” another said.People lodged the reports with V-safe, a text-message system created by the CDC to monitor for possible side effects of COVID-19...

After states legalize the sale of weed for recreational use, on-the-job injuries rise among younger workers, new research shows. U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics for 2006 through 2020 show that legal "recreational marijuana sales were associated with a 10% increase in workplace injuries among individuals aged 20 to 34 years," the study authors concluded. They note that prior research involving older workers did not show this effect. In fact, older workers' injury rates typically decline after recreational weed is made legal in their state, perhaps because older folk are only using their marijuana to ease pain. In contrast, the rise...

For military veterans, many of the deepest wounds of war are invisible: Traumatic brain injuries resulting from head trauma or blast explosions. Now, researchers have discovered that the plant-based psychoactive drug ibogaine, when combined with magnesium to protect the heart, safely and effectively reduces PTSD, anxiety and depression and improves functioning in veterans with TBI. Ibogaine is found in the roots of the African shrub iboga. Since 1970, ibogaine has been designated as a Schedule I drug, preventing its use within the U.S. Before the treatment, researchers gauged the participants' levels of PTSD. Participants then traveled to a clinic in...

Both experienced myocarditis, or heart inflammation, after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. One person received $4,183 and the other $4,934... The U.S. government has paid two more people who were injured by COVID-19 vaccines as it faces the prospect of being forced by a court to improve a program for victims. The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which runs the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program (CICP), issued the payments to two people who suffered heart inflammation after COVID-19 vaccination. HRSA disclosed the two payments in its most recent update, which includes data current as of Oct. 1. Both people experienced...

Investigators have found that dasatinib, a drug commonly used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia, is strongly associated with kidney injury. The study team strongly believes this study will impact clinical practice significantly, changing standard of care and possibly introducing new black box warnings for dasatinib. Furthermore, the researchers point out that the incidence of kidney injury is a previously unknown severe side effect for this drug. This side effect, they report, is advertised to be rare; however, they observed it in 10% of all participants taking dasatinib. Of concern, they say, is that patients taking dasatinib are currently not screened...

CNN — A 79-year-old Florida man was bitten by a nearly 7-foot-long alligator Thursday morning at a golf course in Naples, according to local authorities. The man told deputies he was on a walk at the Forest Glen and Golf Course community, where he lives, shortly after 5:00 a.m. Thursday when an alligator came up and bit him in the leg, according to a Facebook post from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. “I’m bleeding. I don’t know how bad it is. It’s profuse,” the man told a 911 dispatcher, according to an audio recording of the call. “There’s a lot...

Russia enforces strict covid era-style measures on participants of an international conference. British corporate media continue their attack on football legend Matt Le Tissier. Lockdowns did not save the world from covid and the so-called “vaccines” certainly didn’t. The European Medicine Agency has known since 2021 about the thousands of children harmed and killed by Pfizer-BioNTech’s covid injection and more than 40% of Americans experience illness similar to poisoning after being injected. And now – after all the false information and loss of trust in institutions during the covid era – Bill Gates, the Wellcome Trust and WHO are trying...

A nurse diagnosed with a COVID-19 vaccine injury is headed to trial in a case against her former employer. Danielle Baker, 43, is trying to compel Ohio’s Hospice Inc. to pay worker’s compensation for her COVID-19 vaccine injury, suffered after she went to get vaccinated in June 2021 because she believed the company would mandate vaccination. A state officer rejected the claim, finding that Baker did not show her injury came “in the course of and arising out of her employment” because Ohio’s Hospice had not yet mandated vaccination. The Ohio Industrial Commission refused to hear the appeal. But a...

A team of rehabilitation researchers has discovered that prism adaptation therapy (PAT) is as beneficial for treating right-sided spatial neglect as left-sided spatial neglect in a cohort of individuals with stroke and traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries. Spatial neglect, a disorder of spatial cognition commonly experienced by individuals with acquired- or traumatic-brain injury, increases the risks for prolonged hospitalization, injuries, poor motor recovery, and discharge to long-term care facilities. Left-sided spatial neglect is well recognized and known to respond to prism adaptation treatment (PAT). However, little is known about PAT's effectiveness for individuals with right-sided spatial neglect. Using a clinical...

Dr. Melissa McCann raised more than $110,000 to crowdfund the case, which accuses the Australian government of negligence related to the approval and monitoring of COVID-19 vaccines. .. At least 500 Australians have already joined a “landmark” COVID-19 vaccine injury class action lawsuit filed this week against the Australian government and the medicines regulator seeks redress for those allegedly injured or left bereaved by the COVID-19 vaccines. The suit accuses the Australian government, the country’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and Department of Health and Aged Care, and a number of senior public servants of negligence related to the approval and...

A female high school volleyball player who was injured while competing against a male player last year testified Tuesday to the mental and physical trauma she’s dealt with since the incident. Speaking during a committee hearing of the North Carolina legislature, Payton McNabb, a senior at Hiwassee Dam High School in the state, recounted the lingering injuries she’s suffered from since she was struck in the face by a ball that was spiked by a male competitor in a match last September. “I suffered a concussion and neck injury that to this day I’m still recovering from,” she said. Other...

Researchers found that after traumatic brain injury, the brain's immune system cells' internal recycling function slowed dramatically, allowing waste products to build up and interfere with recovery from injury. The researchers also found that treating mice that had traumatic brain injury with a drug to promote cellular recycling improved the mice's ability to recover from injury. The body's cells regularly recycle their own worn-out or damaged parts that accrue through normal wear and tear, infection, or injury in a process known as autophagy. In a previous study, Dr. Lipinski's group showed that traumatic brain injury reduced the ability of neurons—the...

It was a very unwelcome house call. A Florida man was attacked by an alligator after opening his front door Saturday night, according to a report. Daytona Beach resident Scott Hollingsworth told WESH that he heard a noise outside his home around 9:42 p.m., and when he stepped outside, “something grabbed me on the leg, started shaking violently.” He added that he didn’t turn on a light, so he didn’t get a good look at his assailant, but told the station that he initially thought it was a dog. “I stepped back into the house and closed the door,” Hollingsworth...

For 14 years, yoga instructor Anamargret Sanchez has taught a free community class at Legion Park in Miami's Upper Eastside neighborhood. It started with 20 people and grew over time, to the point where attendance can easily top 100 and regulars have braved hurricane watches and COVID-19 lockdowns to meet under the oak trees on Saturday mornings. Sanchez livestreams the sessions so those who can't make it in person can participate on Instagram. The first Saturday of 2023 drew an especially large crowd — the weather was lovely, and only seven days into the new year, resolutions still glinted with...
