A man's five minutes of fame at a Florida golf course where he hit a hole-in-one and had his picture taken is what allegedly helped officers arrest and charge him in connection with a deadly assault that took place in the course's parking lot. The Sumter County Sheriff's arrested Robert Moore, 75, of the Villages, on July 27 and charged him with aggravated manslaughter on an elderly person in connection with the June 28 incident that took place at the Glenview Country Club, court documents say. Dean Zook, 87, allegedly was heading to the club that day with his wife...

In a beautifully chaotic scene in Arizona on Saturday, Ryder stepped up to the frenzied 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale — unique because of the three levels of grandstands that surround it, allowing around 20,000 rowdy fans to get a glimpse — and aced it, setting off pandemonium. On the 124-yard par-3 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Ryder stuck the shot a few feet right of the pin and spun it left, good for a hole-in-one that resulted in plenty of hugs and plenty more lost cups and cans. CBS footage shows shaking grandstands, partying people, all sorts of...

The World No. 3 golfer was heard over a Golf Channel broadcast of a PGA Tour tournament in Hawaii muttering a homophobic slur after missing a putt in the third round. “It’s terrible. I’m extremely embarrassed. It’s not who I am,” he continued. “It’s not the kind of person that I am. But it’s … unfortunately I did it and I have to own up to it and I’m very apologetic. “Like I said, it’s in excusable. I’m speechless. … it’s bad. There’s no other way to put it. I need to do better. I need to be better. It’s...

President Donald Trump was at his Florida club at Mar-a-Lago when the report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller was delivered on Friday. The news of no new indictments in the Mueller report was enough to cheer Trump supporters who attended a fundraiser hosted by Palm Beach County Republicans where Sen. Lindsey Graham was the keynote speaker. Both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump briefly made an appearance at the fundraiser, thanking supporters and signaling their interest in what Graham had to say. The president and the first lady did not mention the Mueller report. “If Lindsey’s speaking, I want...

Ninety-three-year-old Ben Bender made a hole-in-one during his likely last round of golf. The event, played at Ohio’s Green Valley Golf Course, brought Bender's fath in God and his love of golf together, according to the Zanesville Times Recorder. Bender, a Zanesville, Ohio native, is in declining health — including hip bursitis — making playing the game difficult. "I'd come close to some hole-in-ones, but this one was level on the green before it curved towards the hole and went in," Bender told the newspaper. "I was in awe watching it. I played a few more holes, but my hips...

The 1923 Donald Ross layout is touted as South Florida's oldest continuous operated par-3 course.

Golfing for just the third time, 11-year-old Allan Saylor was whacking the ball around with a friend, not even keeping score. A hole-in-one? No big deal. The sixth-grader fired the ace Wednesday on the 150-yard, par-3 sixth hole at the neighboring Mandan Municipal Golf Course, using a driver borrowed from his buddy. --snip-- "I didn't even know what a hole-in-one was," she said. "We're not golf people."

Do you believe her? By Dave KindredGolf Digest (Archive) Updated: October 8, 2007, 12:04 PM ET CommentEmail Print Jacqueline Gagne's ball was a Titleist Pro V1, if we believe her. Flying left off the tee, the ball disappeared into the darkness of a palm tree's fronds. It might have stayed up there. Maybe it bounced into the pond where Gagne searched at water's edge. Looking there, searching the tall grass nearby, everyone looking somewhere, she finally said, "I can't find it." A playing partner, 86-year-old Marcy Hyman, commiserated with her. "These palm trees," she said, "just eat up balls."...

Israel's only blind golfer, Zohar Sharon, now has something else to be proud of, something that every golfer dreams of - a hole-in-one. After hitting his 7-wood at Caesarea Golf Club's par-3 15th, and getting the approval from Shimshon Levy, his caddy and "eyes" on the course, Zohar climbed into his golf cart and the two headed for the green, some 160 meters away. When they got there, however, the ball was nowhere to be seen. "I probably overflew it," Zohar muttered. But after a five-minute search that proved futile, Zohar said, "It actually was a pretty good shot; look...

ALBION, N.Y. (AP) -- It might be one of the more unusual aces in the history of golf, and it won Gene Raymond a new car. Raymond was playing in a charity tournament at Hickory Ridge County Club in Orleans County when his tee shot from the 18th hole hooked left into some trees. Raymond, 66, figured he was looking at a tough shot out of the woods. But when Raymond and his partner got to the green, they found Raymond's ball in the hole. Witnesses told the men that Raymond's shot hit a tree and ricocheted across the green...

Tell people that you've won the lottery and, chances are, they won't believe you. At least you have a little piece of paper and a big check if you're telling the truth. Tell people that you're one of three golfers who just made a hole in one on consecutive swings and there's no chance they're going to believe you. And all you have is a crumpled scorecard and your good word. Bob Fleming, Marc Arcuri and Dan Condie say they made back-to-back-to-back ones Wednesday at the 15th hole at Antelope Greens. Their feat is going to inspire both awe and...

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A man who is legally blind has heard it before, so he was naturally skeptical when he was told he scored a hole-in-one while golfing at a local golf course. "They've said it before," said Joel Ludvicek, 78. Only this time it was true. Ludvicek aced the 168-yard No. 11 hole at Twin Pines golf course with a driver. He had to rely on his three golfing partners to confirm the feat, because Ludvicek is legally blind. "A big fluke, it's just one of those things," Ludvicek said. He has been an avid golfer for years...

October 24, 2003 — It was a shot of a lifetime for a golfer in Montgomery County. The first thing we learned about 89 year old Larry Ruttenberg, is that he has a great sense of humor. The real answer has already become the stuff of legends at the Ace Club Golf Course in Lafayette Hill. Last Monday, Mr. Ruttenberg was here approaching the 12 hole along with Paris Sterrett, a coach with the Middle Atlantic Blind Golf Association. "The ball was rolling and rolling and went into the hole." Sterett says his involvement was minimal. He helps his protégé...
